3D Printer what?

So I put my Eye Chest in the 3D Printer so I could make more later, for reasons you see. Then ??? It's gone. It doesn't get added to the list of things to reprint, and it's not the only item this has happened to. What's up with the 3D printer?

 

that item probably has nto been properly added into the 3D Printer thing.
Just report it as a bug and it'll be fixed within the next update.
that's all that can currently be done about it i fear.

 

thats actually not true, most chests you find around cant be 3d printed, and when you try to they showing in the normal crafting
so try looking in the crafting areas for the chest

 

That doesn't mean what Reinforce said isn't true, if that is the case then it's still probably not properly added to the 3D printer and should be bug reported.
That being said, I tried and was very dissappointed to find out all the chests I had were scannable.

 

I think this is more right. Whether bug or not, it just isn't properly put into the printer. Most chests that don't have a crafting recipe are 3D printer compliant, and can be bought in there, while those that have a crafting recipe through table are not. I am unsure they could separate the two from happing, would have to look into that myself for something I am working on. hmm...

However, I will be reporting another bug: You can 3D print seeds but I didn't see them show up anywhere. So the game just eats up seeds for 0 pixels.

 

probably does the same to spawners too, as that and the seed thing has yet to be messed with since I think the 2nd or 3rd update the game has ever had.

I just hope that does get fixed eventually and good thing to keep reporting that one, as that is probably not suppose to happen.

 

This ^^ Took me awhile to realize this myself. From what I can tell, any chest that has a recipe (toxic chest, flower chest, etc) that you scan in the 3D Printer is basically equivalent to learning the recipe. It won't show up in the printer, but it does show up in your crafting table recipes. I imagine the same might be true if you scan the other biome items you find recipes for.

 

I am not going to use it until they fix the issue.
I lost a tech chest to it. I really wanted to use those for decoration as well as storage. I'd report it but chances are someone else did so I would be redundant. If not, I will send a report.

Recently got in the habit of backing up my save files before using odd stuff in the 3D printer.

 

yup, that prooves what I said...>< Seeds and spawners... scan, but do not print at all...

good to know a confirmation on that, although bad that they haven't fixed those yet. Oh well I am sure in time there will be; it is just a matter of when. The 3D printer has so much potential...

 

I just wanted to add this bit of information concerning the 3d printer. I scanned a Sandstone Chest, it took the chest and my pixels for scanning it, but the item will not appear in my list. So I put another Sandstone Chest into the scanner but it would not scan this one. So whats going on in my opinion is that the item is scanned and stored, but the 3d printer just needs to be updated to list all the items.

 

That one is different and goes in another category that i know I mentioned in another post.

Basically where chests are concerned, it should scan just fine. The chest that are not craftable should appear in the list. However the ones that are craftable should appear in the crafting list in the crafting table. So the fact that the tech chest that someone mentioned above did not go into the list is indeed a bug, but the fact that the sandstone chest didn't means it was not implemented in the 3D printer list; it is in fact in the crafting list.

So look in the crafting table or robotics table and you should see it there. If not then there is indeed something wrong, and a bug/glitch that might have happened. I would say the same for the spawners but that has yet to be even added to either list sadly.

 

You were correct, the sandstone and crystal chest are at my crafting table. And on the note of spawners, I did try scan a doctor spawner, and its not listed at any of my crafting stations. Just thought I'd tell you, thought it might help.

 

I've lost spawners to it too, I'm kind of glad it doesn't let me reproduce the spawners now. Because after I got one of each, I wouldn't need to explore anymore.

I do find it slightly odd that it prints decorations, but not the matching blocks that go with said decorations.

For what I would do with spawners, that is the kind of feature i actually would want. To create a Universe, or even a workable town to some degree I would need a lot of those.

I have to agree with the blocks, I just don't see why not on that part. At least you get some of the metals now with the portable 3D printer thing. That is not enough for me that builds with the "lesser" materials you would find in floran & glitch structures... Hoping some day for that, but in the meantime making my own personal mod for something like that.
