3D Printer ate my items

So I've developed a habit of taking at least one of every new decoration I come across, so I can scan it on my ship and be able to "purchase" it later.

At the last place I looted, I found a "Stim Spawner" to apparently spawn a stimpack vendor. That sounded really useful, but I only had 1... so, I stuck it in the 3D printer and scanned it. It took my pixels, it took the item... but it's not listed in my printer... and I've noticed a few other things I've scanned are not listed there either. One thing off the top of my head would be an Ice Chest. I've scanned several other chests and they list just fine, but that one in particular didn't make the list. I've tried placing another ice chest in to scan it, in case something happened and it "forgot" about it, but it won't take another ice chest so I'm assuming it knows about the item, it's just not showing it.

Is this a known bug/incomplete feature or have I misunderstood something about the scanner?

 

I know it ate my chef spawner, so maybe it eats the spawners, but the ice chest can be found in the crafting table. I had the same confusion when I scanned my ice chest as well.

 

This is what it does. It "eats" the item, so you'll be able to make them afterwards. It's the developers way of balancing this

 

The items that don't list in your printer are -usually- able to be crafted by themselves using other resources, check your various craft tables and anvils.

 

The printer just kinda eats some things without actually giving you the option to recreate it for money later. For instance seeds used to work fine, but all the seeds I've added are now gone and trying to add more is no different from just throwing them in the trash.

 

You can't print spawners.

 

I'm not sure if it's a bug that you can feed your printer those items to begin with or if it's a bug that they don't show after being fed. The thing is everything that currently doesn't show has a blueprint for it. If you find the blueprint first, then you can't even try to feed the printer that item, it just won't take it.

 

I'll say it again: If you scan an item and it doesn't show up for printing, you may have learned the blue print to be crafted using proper more conventional methods.

 

Hence why I'm reporting it as a bug, because it ate my spawner as though it were capable of printing one.

 

So it gave you the blueprint so that you can craft it at a normal station instead. (I think Spawners are from your Anvil.)

 

And I'll say it again: There is no Stim Spawner craftable from any of the crafting interfaces. I've checked all of them, including the spinning table and kitchen counter.

 

1. Yes, the 3D printer eats your spawners

2. No, it doesn't give you a recipe to craft it at an anvil or any other crafting station. It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, and i've checked the anvil, workbench, robotic workbench etc.

3. So yes, this is a bug.

 

I think these things are bugged because they keep eating my seeds.

 

I had the same issue with a lost stim spawner.
