ABC NOTATION! F YEAH! I loved stuffing around with this in Lord of the Rings Online (before I gave up on it). This is now by far one of my favourite aspects! You guys just keep adding more and more awesome!!! Also... I don't think you guys need to keep telling us every update that weekends are for miscellaneous; I'm pretty sure most people get that by now and it's starting to get monotonous reading the same few lines every Saturday and Sunday. lol
So, I'm sitting here listening to the video.... and I'm cringing just a little. Now don't get me wrong, it's not because of the tune or the instrument, it was a great pick for the demonstration. The reason I'm cringing is the application... There is a.... devastating lack of tempo changing and held notes, especially at the start. If they're not already being worked on, I think that it should be a priority for this project to have tempo change implemented into ABC notation as well as note holding, so that notes aren't just flat and instant but can be drawn out like real instruments. It'll make for much better sounding music.
Code: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utaWZT5N-tQ was it only me that got reminded of this??? (since the video aint working... at least for me...)
I do believe there is tempo changing in ABC notation, just as simple as adding another "Q: value" before the next played notes. I think the majority of the problems in the sample may be on the part of the ABC information used and not so much on the system.
Never have I been more excited for music in a video game, also was I the only one that scrolled down to see if the new background had any secrets or hidden feature?
Coincidentally, I was only last week thinking of how awesome it would be if this very feature were implemented. Also, youtube's automagical captioning produced this from the tune's first minute.
woooow music instruments !!! And why not a didgeridoo, for playing music on a beach during the sunset ?
Nice way to start a cellar band...in space ! Allright, seriously its good thing and bad. Good because it can be fun element to game and bad because people in multiplayer can find more ways to annoy others with the instrument spamming.
Do you think it would be possible to introduce a system that would allow you to open .midi files from your computer (If you happen to have those) and have them be played by the instrument of your choosing? I guess if you had this sort of in-game file browser you could open the gates to various methods of saving/loading games (Such as loading your local server's world and playing it in single player), importing custom 64x64-256x256 px posters which would allow the player a great range of customization (On top of the game's thrilling level of detail) for homes. Along with the many other implications, of course. I wouldn't know all the possibilities with the existing game as-is since I'm not a developer though I'm sure the dev-team would know what to do with such a thing.
