How about racial musical instruments? Trumpet, violin, guitar, piano and drum could be Human/Apex, and the other races had other special instruments. Something Japanese-inspired for the Hylotl, Synthesizers / Keyboards for Glitch, etc...
Well, if ABC is already implemented, why not allow those tunes to be made into items that can be played on in-game objects? Like having a phonograph playing in the background; or even through speakers remotely.
Imagine entering a multiplayer server online and being greeted by a dude in a tux playing the trumpet! Reminds me of mos eisley cantina in star wars actually.... But could you add support to european notation?(which is not ABC but SOL LA SI)
This is something I've actually been thinking about that should be somehow implemented into the game... I myself am a Musician, and have considered that I should form an Orchestra in Starbound once released and with a functional music system, lol. This game stands purely on the views in which I share as a game with creativity, and color. A piece of Art. Not a piece of merchandise.
