You do realize, of course, that now some kind of music-based weapon has to happen, right? If you guys don't make it, I'm sure someone else will. Hell, *I* might mod it in, but one way or another, I will have a sound cannon. On another note, have you guys tried this over multiplayer yet? I'd imagine that synchronizing the music across servers and clients is quite the task.
I'm lucky that I already had enough experience with this kind of musical language. So I know I'll be having fun with it.
I think this is such a wonderful addition to add to the game! I was such a band geek and I really really love it! Thanks Bartwe! That being said... Hearing two notes at the same time from one instrument drives me nuts! If it were an instrument that was possible on, sure! But a trumpet? Ahhhhhhhh.

I am new Nostradamus or Bartwe has visited my group. Few days ago I found this animation (Back to future) and posted it in SN with description “Interesting- whether musical instruments in Starbound?” …. Today I came to work, poured a cup of hot tea, took cookies (with chocolate), turned on the computer, went to the site and… …. …I do not remember when the last time I laughed so hard: I thought that I will pour tea through the nose to monitor. But I managed to hold back the emotions and not get burned. This news was so unusual, unexpected but at the same time pleased that I am still in good spirits. Thank you Bartwe. You made my day =)
This is a very popular feature in LOTRO. Glad to see it hear. There are websites full of ABC notation music files waiting to be accessed. This game keep getting better.

This is awesome! It would also be cool if instruments could be linked up to the wiring system, so you can program songs to play based on certain triggers. Even cooler, but also much more difficult to implement, music could be used as an input to the wiring system. For example, if someone plays Zelda's Lullaby, it could open a door...
As some others have said, now I'm kind of hoping for weaponized instruments. Nothing like a sonic boom from a trumpet to wake some enemies from their bandit holdouts! For balancing purposes, I imagine that each instrument can hurt farther the higher the note, so if enemies are trying to fly literally above or around above players with instrument weapons they can still catch them off-guard with a face full of HIGH NOOOOOOOOOOTES Honestly though I probably won't be messing with this feature because I'll be too busy adventuring, but it's still something really cool. My point with the above though is, why stop there?
