It would seem to me the easier idea would be to leave a file open. Where "x.jpg" is the file it looks for when uploading the image to the screen. So you could, say, grab an face picutre from say Curly Brace or something out of Cave Story and use THAT if you renamed it to "x.jpg" and put it in the right place --- would such a thing be possible? Yes, I want Curly as my AI. Or Sue.
Wat. Hell, I'd want a Curly sprite (scaled properly or redrawn from the ground up) for my Avian if it were possible. Still, that does seem the easiest idea. Just rename a file image and drop it in the proper folder. I'm no modder, so I don't have a damn clue, though.
Which is why I suggested it. Always best to Keep It Simple, the simpler to do the better. Less work for the devs.
I could make you a mod that lets you drop in an image file and be done with it. Then you'll see exactly how little mod it takes.
I haven't played since March due to RL (that, and I'm waiting for the final universe generation instead of the sectors). It'll be nice to have Curly on board and some actual quests other than the starter quests Don't suppose you're good at spriting? I have... ideas... (new minerals/metals/etc)
Rather than a horse lady AI for the glitch ship, might I suggest something slightly more sensible, such as an actual glitch or a normal AI that has a glitch helmet on? Also, floran AI is custom, suggesting they can program, yet they mainly build ships from parts of other ships, and/or just steal them. They are also able to read binary, and are friends of the glitch, a robot race. Clearly, floran are actually made of billions of small nanobots rather than cells, and they happen to behave like, and take the form of, plant cells, making them appear to be plants.
WIP indeed! Not a huge fan of the horse... (Glitch Im guessing..?) I hope you keep the plain silhouette one, it's kinda neat. Would be cool if there were multiple AIs the player could chose from... or maybe you get an AI of the opposite 'gender' If the player choses Male/BlueFlower/Plug character, then they get a Female/RedFlower/Outlet AI... and vica versa! Or a flowing list of binary, similar to the matrix... Except blue instead of green, and 1s and 0s instead of characters... 101000101101 101000101110 100101101011 010110101100 101001011101
I like the crystal and the holo people. I feel like these should be like race mascots rather than the race itself. Like the Apex one could be a talking steel banana for example.
A Talking Steel Banana? That doesn't sound much like the very Scientific Race the Apex are I mean we like our Bananas's sure... Apex A.I. should be this:
Yeah, as someone who will probably end up obsessively playing Glitch, I don't really want to be pigeonholed into having a hideous horse-monster as my ship's AI. I mean, the art quality is great, it's just kind of going overboard with the silliness. Please don't make it the default racial AI; I really don't want to have to go all Equus on my shipboard computer.
Was just thinking.... If we can customize the inside of our ship, then why we shouldn't be able to customize the Ship's A.I.'s looks as well? I mean, we could start with a ''default'' A.I. (upper left one) and maybe find some sort of ''Ship Interface Avatar Code'' item that allowed us to give our ship's A.I. whatever face we wanted. That way everybody would be happy, and it would be even easier to make mods for it. P.D. Dunno if anyone has posted this idea already; didn't read the full thread.
Agreed. I can see the humor in the horse girl. But that had better be optional as most players would get sick of it pretty quick. Please, for gord's sake, no! If we are assigned a racial interface style, I can deal. (Especially if there's a way to change it later.) If nothing else, there will be mods for that. But having the game randomly assign the style for your AI interface would be cruel! Myself, I'd have to restart my new character over and over until I got something acceptable. (I sometimes have to do that for a new character in some RPGs.) Starbound seems to feature lots of choices. Let's keep it that way.
Nope. No horse. It would probably only amuse about half of the game's playerbase for a couple seconds, and then just look hideous. Maybe it could be a Glitch wizard or something? Makes a bit more sense.
