Hm. Suggestions for working over the weekend... There's one thing that I have noticed that I thought would be a good, simple addition to the planet's atmosphere on Starbound: Cloud layers. During weather or maybe just randomly, clouds would form in the plane that the player is on. It'd add a nice effect, considering I thought the video that showed Tiy falling from the asteroids outside the planet and never encountering one cloud on the way down was a bit odd. Again, this is clouds in the foreground, not the background. It might also make floating islands look more interesting, floating atop a cloud layer. It'd also make weather more realistic... unless rain already falls from viewable clouds at the moment in game. I would have suggested something else, but the rest of what I have in mind would probably be better implemented with mods. I don't know how long these things truly take to create in game, though I hope I can make different things for Starbound with ease, like how simple the object generator is! QUEST JINGLES. YES. Anyway, like others have said, diseases would be a super cool addition to the game. Perhaps bigger than a weekend project, but I suppose it depends? It sounds fun to me to come up with strange space infections.. like that dude. Now you think you're done with ore distribution but it would be so freaking awesome to have the ores based on the planet type and distance from the star (as explained in detail by another person earlier in this thread) because I love science and to see that accuracy would be cool. This also made me think, what if you could find the same elements/compounds in different states of matter?? Like on hot planets, you might find lava--but it's gold lava, and if you have a heat resistant container, you can collect the gold and cool it off somewhere! Similarly, strange and valuable liquids could be found on the iciest planets--compounds that normally would be gas and therefore nigh impossible to collect.
IDEA It would be really cool if you could stage a rebellion in a village or town and inaugurate a new leader of a different race or tribe. You could get involved in land disputes by choosing to assist one faction in asserting its dominance over the entire planet. If the coup is successful, you could receive discounted prices on items, obtain followers to join you on your space travels, and/or have a statue built of you in the center of the new township... etc... If the coup is unsuccessful, you are obviously banned from that village and reviled by its leaders. They attack you on sight and/or put out a bounty on your head. There could, perhaps, be a quest/trial that allows you to redeem yourself with the village and then restart the whole process (if you want to try again).
Jukeboxes! We would like some jukeboxes! Song selection could be the soundtrack's many songs, and also the little jingles that the players can do with instruments (music recording in-game?)
I think it would be awesome of you guys to add something creepy for oceans, maybe a boss. But something big and scary that is underwater. Like... maybe a deep-ocean angler when the water gets dark down there without a flashlight of some sort.
What about the ability to generate your own biomes, artificially? It would be something like a holodeck in that you could build any sized room that would generate a biome you have seen before. Perhaps a scanning device could be constructed to scan a part of a biome on a distant planet, that you thought was interesting? A weekend project suggestion, any ways As for bosses, why not make a unique first boss theme for each of the races, that could basically be a super large version of a native creature from each races' home planet, and one that many people could find to be a common sort of phobia. For instance, each race could have a similar variant of arachnophobia, and the Florans would be the only race to see this boss as being 'cute/appetizing'. This could start the players with something familiar, and allows for a customized experience with some hilarious commentary opportunities for each of the race backgrounds
