Like can I have my soldiers wear spats and the tier-2 Human armor?, then the Medics wear a flowy dress with spats? Then my mechanics will be wearing a jumpsuit — these sorts of customization must happen! I don't want them imitating my wardrobe!
Totally called for, awesome reply!! Plus internet pwnage points to Kawa! It's a game mechanic for simple and intuitive crew uniform setting.....you can decide what uniform you want for your crew and wear it just long enough to set it as the ship's uniform before reverting to your regular monkey suit. Plus in Star Trek the captain wears the same uniform as the crew except in a different color that distinguishes him as the captain.....very fitting and appropriate mechanic for a game that is all about boldly going where noone has gone before. Or you can be like Darth Vader where you wear a very unique outfit while the crew wears basic uniforms.
As i understand it you set their uniform (based on what you are wearing at the time) at the tailor. Once you have set it you can change to different clothing. So swap into gear you consider a good "uniform" for you crew, set it at the tailor, switch back to your personal unique gear.
I like the uniforms... The tailor thing on the other hand... The part about having same cloth as player part, I don't think I would be terribly fond of it. Would be nice to have a selection for each crew member type to wear, but still have the color scheme of occupation. As in a variety of uniforms to choose from. If not just flat out equipping them with what we have in storage. Including hats. Like Stylist or fashion expert or something that you can talk to in order to use something from storage. It would bring up a menu of the current crew. You select individual you would like to change outfit, and then it would have those vanity slots like the player shown so you could equip them individually one by one. Granted even though they are equiping said equipment the only thing preserved will be the looks, and the color scheme would match to occupation. Maybe even having a separate window that will show the individual and what the pieces will look like when worn by that very individual. Just my thoughts, but good to see a step forward though. Very colorful...
I feel inclined to agree about the uniforms. While a nice touch, it would still be nice to be able to individually customize each crew-member's uniforms, or at the very least be able to set seperate uniforms for each job, in case you don't want to go the Star Trek Rainbow Matching Squad way, and instead wanted to have your scientists decked out in white labcoats, your officers in green military garb (or even be able to change their color for when you go to a snow planet or something, y'know, for camo), your cook in a steriotypical chef's hat because why not, your stylist in The Stylishest Clothes Ever.
Well, when are these changes coming out to the Nightly, and can we Nightly players please have a working launcher and Matter Manipulator again? Because this is the face of the Nightly at the moment. What's the command to unlock the Matter Manipulator again?
I just realized something. You have the Soldier-class crew members wear the color Red, yes? Crew members can also be taken out on the field to explore planets and such, yes? Does that mean the Soldier-class crew members are effectively "Redshirts?"
I feel like this is a good first step, buuuuuuuut yeah. I'd like a little more individual customization of crewmembers. And guards. Maybe I missed something, but I'd like the option to have planetside tenant-guards in outfits of my choosing. (Not sure I'd USE it all that much personally since my main character is kind of a ragtag, "Floran not bosss, Floran just tell peoplesss what to do" sort, but... actually, that makes me want more fine-tuned customization options MORE.)
Is this going to be up in the nightly? Because if it is, i'm going to start playing on nightlies. Thank you.

i like how this going honestly but i would prefeer that tailor let players a bit more of freedom to than just copy the outfit of the captain. i mean i would like the tailor let me choose the colors of the uniform according to their jobs as many forumers have pointed it, but also i would like to define the uniform according to characters gender too.
OMG! OMG! OMG! Tutus and neckties. Best uniform ever. 10/10 In all seriousness though this is great. I was hoping you can change that uniform. The space pirate and space mobster crews of my dreams will be a reality.
The change is very nice and interesting but I hope to be able to disable color-coding, choose only certain piece of clothing that would respond to it or at least set on my own what will be the "occupation colors" for my crew on the ship. Right now, forcing crew members to take up certain uniform color no matter how it fits the design is.. less than great.
