Awesome idea. But if somebody dislike the idea of splitting races into "battle" and "non-battle", i can suggest another way - why dont we split races into "guns-" and "sword-wielding" with some specialization for each. Example: Apex, Human and Novakids - gunwielding races, where Apex can craft longshot-sniperrifles, human - mid range assault rifles and mp's and Novakids - close-range shotguns and revolvers. Glitch, Florans, Avians and Hylotls - sword-wielding races, where Glitch can craft shields + 1-handed swords, Florans - variety of 1-handed weapons (sickles, axes, daggers etc.) for dual-wielding, Hylotls - 2-handed weapons (katanas etc.) and i have no idea for Avians, so sorry
I think some of the native-american weapons were incorporated in old western pop culture. They also used knives frequently for cutting hogties and such.
Tomahawks, axes, and knives are the only melee weapons I can think of from the era. EDIT: Hit reply, copy the BB Code it puts in the reply box and then use edit on your previous post.
I agree, I think some racial bonuses for each type would be cool. Wouldn't have to be anything extreme. Looks like they are already looking to change things up a bit with this new class. If they wanted to counteract the effectiveness of guns without nerfing them (they are already too weak, IMO), they could make Novakid armor weaker than the other types. Seems silly to me that ALL the armor stats are the same at every tier. Or perhaps they could just start with lower health, or something. Procedural generation means that players don't really have to repeat the same content when they restart the game, so changing races isn't that big of a deal. Also, this is not an e-sports title. Having perfect balance is not that important. I would rather see more variety, and more reasons to try new things, rather than just making everything the same for the sake of fairness. That strains believability, and is not very interesting.
Does it have to be a radius? Why can't it be a painted area? Like with an image mask? I am really looking forward to this being added in because I have been wanting to make some dungeon mods, but without that, it's far too easy to circumvent the challenge.
I'm sure they'll use the same system they use for modifying gravity in the presence of dungeons/towns.
I don't think they "modify" gravity... I think that gravity is just preset to "1" or something, and the planets change their own gravity. I think it's a bug that dungeons don't have the same gravity... Or maybe I'm wrong.
First I'd like to point out that it's all still incomplete. Currently the races all have basically the same weapons craft-able, just with different names. There is absolutely no reason they couldn't take the short sword for example, and make it so the Floran craft a larger, slower version, while the Apex create a fast version with electric damage, to differentiate the starting weapons and race play styles. You can learn to build the other race's tier 1 weapons, but there is no point at the moment, due to them being the same. But it implies to me that they possibly plan to make them different. Also, a shield generator like that means players can possibly put something like that in their base. Then monsters and meteor showers can destroy outposts, without angering the people who want to build an extensive structure without worry of it being destroyed.
You can't build reliable platforming puzzles if you can't predict how far players can jump. If you plan for the jump to be made at 2x gravity, on anything less, it'll be super easy. They normalize the gravity in those areas so that jumping puzzles are able to be completed while still remaining challenging..
There is one thing that tickles my senses of suspiciousness. Regarding steam train, actually. The idea is blazingly mindmelting and awesome, yet... From what I've seen, rooms in upper ship tiers are conveniently placed and variable in size and door locations. Wouldn't endless row of wagons be a bit dull to: 1) Walk, endlessly running from one side to another on one straight line could be quite exhausting. 2) Modify and decorate, if all rooms are basically just... rooms, with two doors on each side and same shape. I've yet to see the train itself, but I sincerely hope that array of wagons won't all be shaped the same. You might call me crazy, but I simply can't enjoy the idea to it's fullest imagining row of identical wagons.
It the shield generator going to be a placeable item? Can you wire it? Turn it on/off? It would be nice for player made structures too. I'm going to hide mine behind doors with combination locks so that you can't destroy my capital building without the key! Anyway... musings.
