Already PM-ed a dev and endorsed Extended Songbook (wide) myself as well. I don't get the hostility, actually I suggested to do this earlier, as many mods either fix problems, add a lot of content, or just improve existing things. A good example is the extended songbook, nothing bad comes from applying it to the main game.
To all the "Mods effect Gameplay too much" read: http://playstarbound.com/the-future-of-chucklefish-and-starbound/ Tiy talks about adding career Pathes, Starbases for Multiplayer, entire different Tier development and stuff...! THATS actually WAY more Gameplay-Changing than almost all mods ive seen so far. If you dont like changes in Gameplay, leave and come back in a year or something...
You're talking like you're the one owning the house. We have a full right to be heared out and I think that "You don't own this game, so shut up" isn't a best point to the argument. I'm telling only that gameplay-essential changes should be done and revised only by developers. Anything that others might dislike and it just can't be ignored mustn't be added. And I don't care about how popular the mod is. Only if it's okay with the game. And they must be implemented in the game based on their quality and balance and NOT their popularity. EDIT: If you're talking to me, then I'm telling you, what I'm talking about gameplay changes by modders and not by developers. Also, no hostility, if you find opposition or criticism to be equal to hostility I suggest you reading wikipedia articles about democracy-related stuff. Since all the replies are same, I'm done with persuading somebody in something, I wrote a letter to the devs, I hope they will hear me. And to haters: read the full conversation before the hate, you might have the wrong impressions or thoughts about me, or what I'm saying.
No problem. I think there are some really talented people who make us some of these awesome mods and I just wanted to stick up for all their hard work
Fully Customizable Ship: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/fully-customizable-ship.39/ Dyeing Bucket: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/dyeing-bucket-multiplayer-friendly.970/
They really do put a lot of effort into these mods. And most of them are good; you have a very good point about they are only asking for suggestions, though I've tried making that point as well to no avail. And certainly some mods aren't likely to go in, such as Creative Mode. However, things like the mod that allows you to craft water/lava, persistent farmables, and ship customization are very good mods and should definitely be included. I'm all for Persistent Farmables because I managed to get Crystal Plant seeds a while back. The wiki says they grow in 95 minutes as an average, and chilis grow in about 120 minutes. I have sat in Starbound on that planet for over 3 hours at one point and not once in those three hours or indeed in the three days since I first planted them have any of those grown to where I can harvest them once. And to be quite honest it gets to be a pain in the butt not being able to switch planets because the plants in the farm won't grow while I'm on other planets or even on my ship.
Agreed Of course, devs have to test if it works as they want it to, and if it fits their imagination of how the game in future would improve and develop. If for example the customization of ships would work some other way, they might wish to avoid adding the mod at this point, same with coloring. However, if there is no negative or conflicting issue with the mod and the planned features, then it just makes the improvement of the game faster and easier to add good mods. An ignorant dev team forfeits modding tools and possibilities, a wise one implements these from the start. A foolish dev team messes up a game and either never patches it or the patches are bugged themselves, an active dev team pushes out constant fixes and improvements. A lazy dev team lets the players try their luck with fixing their game, a clever one implements and builds upon the ideas of its own community. I think mech and new species have to be thought through more carefully, despite that I love both the mech one and the Felins (as example), it has to fit the setting, and be balanced for all races equally.
As a colorblind gamer I would really like to see Sykes' Colorblind Friendly Interface integrated into the game. It really helps me out a lot. I also wanted to add that I have the Avali race mod installed and I stumbled across an Avali settlement in game last night that blew me away. To leave that kind of art out of the game would be criminal! I should probably add Rise of the Hylotl and XS Corporation Mech mods. They feel like they are part of the vanilla game already.
You guys are brilliant as usual. I'm loving the way this game is turning out. in terms of mods... I want to make my own ship! I want Novakids! I want that Mech mod (Forgot name) I want Stimlab Keep up the good work guys
I really don't understand the logic behind the "please no gameplay changing additons" pleads...Starbound is in early beta..Progenitor stage. Do people ACTUALLY think that until release or even the transition to stage 2 of the beta the gameplay will stay as it is NOW without any significant and major changes?? I mean come on guys...This is a test version of a game. Lacking a great deal if not the majority of its content and was released to public not even 3 months ago. As an incomplete piece of work. One of the reasons it was released as it was to public testing was to also include some of the community's feedback into its development. Hence suggestions being made opent and so on...Including some mods as vanilla second to large positive feedback on them is only logical. Plus up until now and even with all of its currents flaws and whatnot, the dev team has been conducting an awesome job. They have been constantly quite reasonable in their progression with the game. I don't believe they would include any gameplay disrupting ubber weapons / completely new races (since there is already an official unreleased race waitting in line) / experience braking additions.. In the end Starbound will be in constant change until release. More so during Progenitor. It was bound to be so since the beginning and the devs warned about this aspect of the beta. Anyone who isn't ok with this does have a choice..don't play until it has been revamped and released as a final release.
I don't know at all about that mod, or to be honest the handicap. I do however think it is great some people actually made such mods, and if they can be implemented easily I do fully endorse its addition.
Here goes: Avali race Fully Customizable ship Dyeing bucket Argonian race Starbooze Back Items mod Archer's synthesizers
Two issues with this... 1) The changes ARE done and revised only by developers. They just wouldn't be made by them in this case. 2) Popularity is a good indicator of quality, so... It's a good point to start, honestly.
idea is good as long game dont turn up starmesh most mods should be add it like dye bucket and such but like my little pony races or such content which dont fit on game worry me so please keep it lore friendly
He does have a point though. Everything needs to be double-checked to get into the main build, and fit some standard of balance, setting, and quality requirements. A penis monster mod may get super popular (heh), that doesn't mean it should get added (we already have mushrooms anyway). Despite that, as stated earlier I fully support implementing mods into the main game, and actually suggested to do so in a PM.
I just know 2 mods i just love: Starbooze Avali Race Mod I would suggest Persistent Farmables, but I foresee many a server lag.
