I feel like the change between the first and second upgrade is a little too much, maybe have a middle one so it goes up more slowly?

 

About time. Now the lantern on a stick won't be the only back item worth using!
...Because there will be several other lanterns on sticks.

I know right? No parachute? No Scuba tank? No extended energy or health supply? The back slot is downright useless with the advent of the new tech system.

 

I agree with the majority that they're quite aesthetically pleasing and should prove very useful. Though, I'll also agree with the minority that... it is about time.

Also, I'm reminded of the wonderful lantern stick / backpack mods that were made obsolete by earlier changes. It was nice and clever how they combined a light source with other benefits like a parachute, warmth, and/or air-supply. ( I still can't believe that they got rid of both hunger and temperature. )

 

With this I'll probably stop wasting thousands of torches.

 

Though those hundred torches will light your way back to the ground at some point/

I've got Impervium Level stuff on atm... & a Iron Lantern on a Stick that feels awfully antiquated now. Glad Upgrades are on the way.

I agree the Light Rig just doesn't really cut it. If ya can't see the Beams ya can even forget which ya turned on to turn back off, & it's easy to accidentally activate the left & right facing ones when ya don't need to. (I'm also afraid of ever using the Dash or FTL Techs for the same reason, it's too easy to try to nudge your way to the edge of a cliff to do something there, like Mine up something at the edge of MM Range, & accidentally dash yourself right over the edge... I have no problems with Techs that use Double Tap Up or Down though.) Lastly, they can't light up diagonal directions well even if ya have 2 on at once that are right angles to each other. Might as well continue Flashlighting & Lantern Backpacking & use a different Tech. I personally am currently using the Ground Smash one in that slot.

I also like the sound of this idea. I'd seriously consider opting for this & no longer bother carrying a Flashlight in my R Hotbar Slot anymore.

 

I like it. The Luggage would make an awesome pet/follower .

 

Not to say I don't like them, but I imagine the higher tech upgrade would look less like a whole bulky backpack with a stick and light bulb, but more like a shoulder mounted lamp:

 

Flashlight on the helmet or on the rifle had been better.

 

I could not agree more. I am grateful for the upgrade to the lantern on a stick. Really I am. So thank you for that! We've needed something like it for awhile. But if I were to be honest, I feel the last tier of the upgrade needs work still.

I mean, look at the lab dungeons the apex and humans have.. now back to your supposedly accomplished star captain. He or she has a nano-suit on and can used advanced computer systems to augment what is likely a bio-chip implant or some such "tech." Can you tell from their appearance though? Yeah, I can't either.

Unlike these dungeons, your character gives off no "tech" vibe. lol, which is okay, so long as the tiers of equipment reflect some sense of advancement. I mean, we have cosmetic slots for a reason and every race is different. They wouldn't all look like half robotic space soldiers.. but it sure seems odd that I have a forge resembling a fusion chamber, a robotic assembly table and a pole on my back.

In my mind, if I have those high trer crafting devices to make the gear, then my gear should reflect this level of advancement too.

You're right but in my experience the torches light up so much more places than the way I really took down. So in the end I have to search anyways.

 

The packs illuminate the entire area around you. What you are proposing is far too directional.

 

I don't think it's hard to imagine what is pictured without the directional fixture.

That's the amazing thing about Chucklefish so far. The whole crew is just more than happy to put in herculean amounts of work, here.

They are probably superhuman. We should probably fear and/or destroy them as soon as possible before they realize their superiority.
