Just copy your giraffe_storage folder - that is essentially your save data folder for all your characters + universes etc.

Wait... so now the build labeled "Starbound [nightly]" is actually running the Stable build? and if I want to help test nightly I need to install the "Starbound - Unstable" build?

I never got the 2 seperate Starbound versions in my Steam after they did the split. I still only have the one that I had set to nightly before they split them. I tried restarting Steam and still only have the one. I tried a fresh reinstall of the game and still only have the one. The one that appeared after the reinstall has no option to be switched to nightly or unstable anymore btw. Is there some option in Steam I am missing or something?

Make sure you're looking at your entire steam library, not just what's installed. You'll have to install the second starbound

Exact same problem here. only one and no options in the beta section to change to unstable or nightly.

Seems anyone who received a gift copy is not seeing Unstable. They are looking into the issue.

Also I merged your thread with this one. Please use existing threads if possible. Unless more than 90 days old.

Well, thats the assumption i made at least. I reverted the "normal one" and opted into nightly on the unstable one.

But to be honest i havent tested if you can still use the "stable" one that has previously opted into nightly (before they made 2 entries in the steam list), but it would be kinda weird if it worked (as in, it realy showed nightly content and not just stable content).

Very well.. I haven't tested this very extensively, but it seems we are right. Before the dual release I was getting almost daily download notices from steam/starbound.. since the dual set up though, I swear these downloads have stopped. Could have different results for someone who opted in for nightly on the stable build nowdays, but it seems that at least those who had nightly set up prior to this do need to switch to the "unstable instance" to actually acquire the nightly updates.

Odd that it still calls my stable version "Starbound nightly" even when it is not functioning as such.. I mean I know why it's named in such a fashion, seeing as I did have "opt into betas" enabled on this instance.. but if it truly does not give updates, I could see it causing confusion for some folks. Makes me wonder if opting out of the nightly on the stable instance has any effect.. Oh well! Either way, it's clearly time to upload my old data into the ""unstable" instance and see if it works.

lol wish me luck! Oh, and just in case it seems like I'm belly aching, I'm actually happy chucklefish chose to go with this feature. A dual instance set up like this gives us testers more security. After all, the stable version is this to catch us if something happens in nightly, which allows us to further test the bounds of the game without too much worry. :mwahaha:

    EDIT:
Okay, so on a whim I decided to check into something. The stable instance no longer has an option to opt into the nightly build.. there are no betas available for it. Meaning that you do in fact have to switch to the unstable for nightly updates. Oddly enough, the way steam handled the release of two instances means anyone who was using the nightly build before this now has a stable build instance that reads "starbound [nightly]" until they either install the unstable build or reinstall their stable one. o_O
