If you continue to go up even further, will gravity lessen as well? Will there eventually be no gravity? Just wondering how high you are going to be able to climb with gravity still in effect.
Wait but up there there is no atmosphere, what means, no oxygen! What must mean, you must have some space suit to be able to reach that high without die? I love the idea, would be awesome with a special mini-biome up there with monsters in the asteroids mwaha
I'm sure it's been pointed out already, but technically those wouldn't be asteroids, but small satellites (moons). But pedantic nonsense like that aside, this looks like it'll be an amazing feature. Gives people a reason to go up and not just down. This is an amazing idea, especially the transitory comets that occasionally zip in closer to the system they orbit and can be landed on and mined for valuable stuff. Comets are a dangerous place, with parts burning off and other instability. Could make for an awesome late game high risk high reward feature.
What I seem to notice is that quite a few people just click the play button and don't read the post. What you shouldn't be doing, is saying. "Hey Tiy. I know you've been doing an amazing job at updating us DAILY like no one ever does, but if it would be possible that incomplete feature seems incomplete... you should add, this, this this thisafikodnasoidfnaods...." What you should be doing is realize that not only can we now Climb into orbit, all of those suggestions that involve something in orbit, Like a space station or any form orbiting ANYTHING is now possible and far more likely. Let them refine it like he said he would... sheesh.
Except that in this particular case, those geostationary asteriods (which is contradictory in itself x)) seem located within the orbit of the planet (but not gravitating, which is strange), or else they would fall down on it by gravity attraction. I think I'd prefer Avatar-like giant flying isles high in the sky rather than these space asteroid chunks, but that's just my personnal opinion again x)...and me being a jerk, also, given all the work involved around it, but hey, whatever x).
You... do know he is being killed, right? I'm afraid I have to agree. Yes, this is a game and there's already a lot that is just accepted due to it being science fiction, but this one just doesn't work for me. Dismissing the technical inner workings of complex and supremely advanced technology is one thing, but dismissing basic, well known fact like that is another and, imho, will only serve to cripple my enjoyment of the game.
Will asteroids only appear around planets with ring's because that would be more realistic? But if not screw realism this is awesome!
Considering how fast the day and night cycles go, most planets must be spinnning very fast, which means that a geostationary orbit must be very low. Sooo, this actually make sense . Or at least, somewhat But I don't really care about realism. That game has teleporters and appereantly the majority of all planets contain advanced life (animals). When I want something with more realistic orbit mechanics, I play some Kerbals then.
I got an idea! Make it so on the bigger asteroids sometimes aliens pop out of them. That would be awesome! Can't wait until it comes out, this game is going to be SO AWESOME!
It's great that the team has gone for this idea, love it. Though the effect is not very convincing. Perhaps there needs to be a point where a background layer fades in to suggest the curvature of the planet. Just something to show the divide between space and earth, powerful stuff. Also, I noticed that there are 4 background layers at the surface of the planet. As you get higher the separation between the layers gets greater suggesting changing of perspective and movement. These 4 layers disappear off the bottom of the screen too rapidly, the feeling of your perspective changing as you get higher is lost. I suggest more background layers. Layers that imply the very far away. These layers, while on the surface are not visible, as you get higher up you see these layers emerge. They separate from each other very slowly so as you go higher and higher there is a constant changing of perspective and sense of motion. Somehow it could eventually all fade out into the curvature of a planet, that's the part i'm not too sure how it would work. I get that its a 2D game but even Leonardo Da Vinci was a 2D artist a lot of the time. bit of inspiration.
With all the criticism about the asteroids mentioning a lack of "Physics" and "Natural Universal Occurrences," I must say I'm quite staggered. These features would be nice in moderation, but I'm having a hard time finding this game to be a simulation, which the majority of you are proposing. This game will not be a "Kerbal Space Program" type game, so what is with all the suggestions of real world physics and phenomenon. Yes, gravity and perhaps atmospheric re-entry would be a nice addition, but circling asteroids and/or the ability to stand on one should not become a debate about if it is plausible or not. It's a game and is meant to create fun, not restrict you from exploring additions such as the asteroids they implemented. I'm sure they are working on some way to balance the hyper-fiction with some realism though (Land Roverish/ Spaces-suitish type equipment), but i suggest we sway away from trying to turn this game into Space Simulator 2014.
Well I partly agree with you (does this adverb even exist ? damn my english). These "requested" features (and I'm all for harmless re-entry after all) are not of major importance over gameplay mechanics. Let's just put it simply, they are only aesthetics. But I feel that some of them, including 'plausible space physics mechanics', would be of great addition to the immersive capability of the project. After all, this is a 2D space-exploring game, I don't see what could possibly be wrong about conveying these ideas .
