I just gotta say, that hologram looks awesome. I can't wait till 1.0! It would also be cool if there was a really hard to get jet pack tech that could let you fly based on you energy and also let you hover, possibly for building purposes. Maybe like the jet pack from Terraria, but more sci-fi.
Please refrain from making unrelated, useless, snide posts. If you can't discuss things politely here, you won't be welcome. You don't have to like the development time, but you do have to be respectful as per our forum rules. That being said; it's not an unusual thing that the next patch is taking a while. What was to be 2 patches was turned into 1 due to being ahead of schedule. While this means you actually have to wait longer for a patch in general, you get to wait less overall for 1.0. If the development time bothers you too much though, you can always opt into Nightly, which is updated with all the new features almost daily. Otherwise; games have to be developed. It takes time. You have to wait. #Reality. ======================= Everyone else: Please continue discussion on techs and ignore obvious trolling.
Can't wait to see all this combined and useable without console commands. A weekly updated "RELEASE-NOT-BEFORE-xx.xx.xxxx-DATE" would help me concentrate on other things in life
Im not sure why almost everyone complains about the obstacle course, its quite easy actually I did it in minutes and it's not that bad and tutoring even, but then again not everyone is good at fps or mobas or in this case platforming, soo I gues the devs should find an alternative way to let players have acces on the next techs, I myself don't rrally mind the old way to acquire techs even the really old way where you have to search for em in chest don't really bugs me, I like searching and collecting even, soo the OS wasn't that bad but still atleast have an alternative for the others... and also I agree that some of the techs are kindda bland, why not make them unique and customizeable like adding different particle effects or offensive uses to them would be really fun...
Perhaps they've changed it, but when I tried an early version of the energy dash course the timing had to be almost perfect or you would just miss every time, which was extremely frustrating... That and I find platforming in general to be a bit off in Starbound. Not sure quite why, but there just is. Yes.
Yes, they changed it and made it much easier. Also, back strafing. I'm so glad they made it so you can run backwards, allowing for much better platforming.
hey u guys forgot the forum link to the recent update on the blog or after looking the entire thread to the new news
well, I personally don't like the new way of acquiring techs, mostly because I can't live without double jump, in fact this is the only tech I use, don't ask me why but it is also check out my youtube channel for more regarding my opinion on the techs https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAqXhs8WSMzlxTxmZNLOFFg
Well, it's not hard to get. You'll encounter the outpost on the first planet before you get FTL working, so you won't have to be without double jump for long, as it currently only costs 10 bars of copper to get the quest done, and five chips to get it acquired.
Well I for one am a HUGE fan obstacle courses, I think they're thrilling and spark a lot of fun conversation and suspense. Takes me back to the good old days of Maplestory jump quests. Although i must admit the current dash tech obstacle course was HELL to go through. It required near frame-perfect timing, so I can see a lot of people being frustrated with it after that hard of a course, and I do hope that one in particular gets tinkered with. (Plus I'd like the dash tech to go further, actually make it worth using for anything else besides back-pedalling with a gun. Which is counter productive because it costs more energy to use than its worth when trying to fire as well.) However, let's not keep pressing the devs to remove all challenge whatsoever from the game. Challenge is part of what makes games enjoyable. If you haven't noticed, Starbound has never been a totally sandbox game. There have always been progression elements, and that's something I really enjoy about this game. The feeling of completing unique challenges keeps things interesting, and you can feel that sense of accomplishment when you or someone you see pass by you has that special thing only unlockable from doing that one difficult task. Not everything has to be challenging, and you should be able to enjoy your own playstyle of the game. But the game should definitely reward you for actually getting progressively better at its mechanics, rather than just gathering endlessly until you have the materials to make the item you want. Not everything should have 10 different ways to go about getting it, it kind of ruins the vibe of obtaining anything at all.
Hated those jump quests. I am loving the idea of obstacle courses though as I never mind the platforming on Starbound. On Maplestory it was really counterproductive though as level 10 or level 200 the quest itself will be the same as all of your skills get blocked. Worst of all though on Maplestory if you mess up then the punishment could mean starting literally completely over. Maplestory made it extremely annoying and pointless. Starbound (with the exception of the dash which I heard only bad things about) is generally fair with the dimensional portals and such. In some cases too fair as a simple double jump tech can completely break them.
Yeah, the dash tech one was hell, but it seems that they've tweaked it just enough in the latest build. But you do have a point, now that you can run backwards as quickly as you can forwards, there isn't really any point to the dash tech anymore... They really ought to buff it a bit so it actually has some feasibility. Perhaps reducing the cool down would be nice for it. Though luckily it uses no energy last I checked. The distortion sphere is the only energy using one.
The way that sounded made me think you defeat bosses and manuever obstacles that are themed around them to acquire the tech, just like how samus acquires new abilities in metroid
which i wouldnt mind either i find most jumping quests too easy of sorts with the grand exception of the apex lab when u havent got warptech
