It's kind of impossible on nightly to unlock the techs after doing the courses, since nothing at all drops tech chips (Not full cards for some reason) other than the little flying robots at the end of the Apex mission.

Still though, the idea of helping a scientist and getting rewarded with what you helped make is awesome. I loved it the night it hit the nightly, like 6 days or so ago. The graphic is definitely interesting, and the use of that entire room rather than just a small object is pretty cool.

    Lodish Black Hole Surfer

Is is just me, or 1.0 will be a LOT more lore/plot-oriented? (like, a LOT) An actual storyline, new characters that replace previous features, more shops, towns...

    Phantaeon Scruffy Nerf-Herder

I only hope that theres a few different options for techs. I don't want Energy Dash or it's special versions (I know, blasphemy). Because my A key tends to sometimes screw up.

The new system is good as it demands skills (sort of) to get tech. The game can basically be played without them, but having them lets the player have an ace up the sleeve.

Could there be a way to get (gain?) new techs or blueprint for said techs, like the bubble flying thing or bouncing, out of a difficult tasks or powerful bosses? (POST 1.0?)

I also hope they expand more on those techs. The ones we have now are starting to feel....a little stale. I mean if i am being honest, a few of those techs could work as just as an additional upgrade to the current one, an example is the boost jump tech. The way the boost jump tech is layout, would it not see likely with just the tech allow alone and the variety on how they work themselves, a user can wall jump naturally, rocket jump by pressing the up arrow when jumping, and pressing jump twice more in the air for the triple jump.....you know what, how tossing in rocket boots in as well that happens the same way if when you jump then press and hold the spacebar to activate the boots

Same thing with the morph ball, just continued upgrade instead lvl 1 - morphball, lvl 2 can roll on water lvl 3 can spindash( calling it what it is) lvl 4 can climb walls lvl 5 can drop bombs at the cost of some energy (meaning the user can't sit their and drop bombs, probably up to 5 bombs before energy runs out

and possibly with the dash lvl 1. sprint (activate by pressing the down key and the arrow key in the direction your going) lvl 2. dash, lvl 3. air dash lvl 4 blink dash (with additional of the air dash) lvl 5 FTL dash (just cost more to use)

I know that means using all of them, but think of them as all one tech with newly upgraded functions.

Which could lead to other techs they could make within the head, body, and leg techs.....maybe an arm/hand tech class?

maybe the body class could get a barrier tech thats a white aura around the user that will also be upgraded to bounce higher with, can float bounce projectiles, and then bounce other enemies for minor damage. Maybe a shield tech that negates damage, but can be upgraded to become bigger for allies to use, able to move and use weapons with it active, providing healing, provide buffs like damage and damage resistance inside, etc

or maybe leg techs that negate fall damage or allow you to jump enemies, or perhaps even stomp them.

    Just.......stuff

I think the Dark Souls fandom has a term for that. I just can't recall it right now.

Though it might be easier than you think. I like a challenge. It makes me not only feel good when I complete it, but makes me worthy of having the techs. if you want it to be easy then just use admin codes to progress pass that. You might miss out on an enjoyable and challenging experience that could endear you to the game though. Granted, if the quest are made to difficult then it can take away from it. My suggestion is to practice platforming now and using the rope instead of making block paths.

They updated their system to be less laggy so they could do more with it. I would worry about it. They wouldn't release a laggy 1.0,bad business.

    So close....

But, reference jokes aside, this reminds me of the challenge chambers in the apex underground complexes. I wonder if they will make use of those as gauntlets to unlock tech blueprints in the tech update.

I'm happy that the game will actually be a challenge :) The current tech system is really meh, it doesn't feel rewarding at all. I mean I got like 70 tech cards laying around and no use for them :(

I just want to be able to purchase visual alterations to base techs. I LOVED the Butterfly Boost. I don't care if it's the exact same stats as some other boost but only with a different particle effect. I want that.

Butterflies. Bubbles. Leaves. Sparkles. Smoke, Rainbows. Skulls. Let us kit out or Techs with some personal touches.

Yes, please! We used to have variety in tech, and now we have like... 3 options with 4 suspiciously similar variants each?
    B L A N D .
I mean there used to be stuff like HP/EN recovery, shields, boosts in every direction which weren't slow as mollasses and didn't use all your energy in 1 second, teleportation, etc. and now we have like 1/2 of that.
A tech that creates a temporary hardlight platform in the air for you to stand on. Uses energy until you deactivate or run out.
One which negates 50% of damage and all knockback if you stand still and hold down. Uses energy while active and on hit.
One that lets you stick to walls and the ceiling, but not move. Keeps your hands free. Think the ice-pick item but with no hands required.
One that uses all your energy to block a single attack, negating all it's damage but not knockback. Think an emergency one-time shield. Have to wait for it to recharge, like a broken shield.
Another which lets you send out an incorporeal "specter" to scout a little ahead.
One which applys the floating status effect while in use for a constant but not too steep energy drain.

Oh, and wall-jumping shouldn't need to be its own tech. That should be a feature of all the jump techs. It has far too few uses compared to the others.

Also I've mentioned this before and I doubt it would be changed this far in, but tech categories should be based on the key presses used to activate them, not arbitrary "head/legs/body" categorization.
    [{<<,>>}] dash techs
    [space][space] double jump techs
    [^][space] rocket jump techs
    [space][{^,<,>,v}][space] boost techs
    [F] Other techs 1
    [G] Other techs 2
    [etc...] Other techs 3-?
Which would allow for much more interesting combinations, and far more combinations at that. You could even have more than 3 techs at a time, depending on what they are.

YES. THIS. CHUCKLEFISH. LOOK AT THIS PLEASE.
And think, then you could also mod in more appearance changes and everyone on the server could choose their own look instead of having a replacer that has to affect everyone too.
A double-jump that has a "whoosh" and no visible effect, a small explosion effect and sound, or the typical "whlip" sound and pulse visual.
Dash with lightning particles instead of afterimages. Or a different colored effect. Would also allow people to add variations on the afterimage for non-standard body-shaped races like Avali without making the tech look weird for everyone else.
A more subtle blink animation, perhaps leaving a small trail of particles between the beginning and end points too. Like a smoke cloud or something.
Of course, butterflies for the boost... Actually, heck, butterfly everything. Butterfly blink, butterfly double-jump, butterfly dash, butterfly boots, butterfly barrier...
Instead of morphball distortion sphere, appear to change into a small critter instead. Or a wisp of some kind, or a tumbleweed!

Agreed. I think I tried an early version of the energy dash test and that was one of the most frustrating things...
Eugh. I do not want to have to do that every time I make a new character.
That said, I could forgive it if some of the things above were added/changed, or if there are alternate ways to get them.
Honestly, I kind of miss when you could find them in the eponymous tech chests. Finding at least some unique ones through exploration would be really cool. The more unique hidden items, the better!

I think this is a refreshing change, and I like the graphic.

However, some techs should be locked to beating bosses during progression, or some other means... Otherwise it gets a bit stale being forced to unlock via only one way - i.e challenge rooms.

    Unlocked via:
    > Stumbling across in the galaxy
    > Quest
    > Challenge rooms
    > GALACTICAL BOUNTY HUNTING
    > Beating boss(es)
    > Purchased via Merchant (E.g the Apex Science guy

^ Variations / Effectiveness of tech may differ based on difficulty ^

Also, it is interesting that people bring up that the Outpost is getting a little crowded. I wonder if there'll be any chance of seeing multiple different hubs where the player gets choice of where to assign valuable NPCs (Sort of like Salt & Sanctuary). Would be great to see that happen.

With the obstacle cours will the next teck be a prize for prevailing the cours ore will you be testing the new teck and only get to keep it if you complete the cours?

There is a mod that is similar to that called Portable Outpost. ( http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/portable-outpost-quest-console.3105/ )
I wonder if the Devs could implement something like this in a future update?

I wonder if these are going to be like Pocket Dimensions or Apex Labs.

Pocket Dimensions are extremely easy for the most part, and the Apex Labs are just bandage vacuums. But hey, it ain't too much trouble to go to some planet with lots of foilage and get several hundred bandages/biogel/nano wraps and just spam them while doing the Apex Labs, lol.

I've actually been skipping the apex labs (except for ones in high difficulty planets) because of the lack of tangible reward anyways, all you get is a couple guns and they usually suck.

So, hopefully these obstacle courses won't have pixel-perfect jumps like some of the apex lab stuff has, or if it does hopefully it's just zapping that you can heal through. I think it'd be annoying if I had to retry the same course 100 times because of some annoying pixel-perfect jump in a game where your character has the inertia of a pregnant cow and controls in mid-air as well as one.

Can't count the number of times I've missed jumps because I was a pixel or two off and my character slid off the corner of a block even after I technically landed on it. SO annoying...
