I don't mind integration so long as I choose if I have to deal with it, for me I wouldn't personally touch face book integration with a 11 foot pole so if its in the game id like to never see unlace I go looking for it. Nothing breaks the immersion of another world like "That was a sweet kill, do you want upload this to your friends?" If people want to talk about what they did in a game on a social media, then they can just talk about it, having integration for game recording and live feeds is a sweet idea, I just don't want a game I love the look of be ruined by a big watermark of FB, that the sort of thing that turns a game I play from months of enjoyable fun into a week or two of getting my moneys worth and then finding something that lets me truly escape from reality.
The Twitch setting is a pretty good thing! I think the idea of the item is good ... Especially if you integrate this idea in the right way ... As its not'll frustrating and will not break the mood! I like the idea.
Just like in real life, Facebook exists but I don't necessarily want to be a part of it. Making the Starbound universe act like it's a part of ours (optionally) doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. I might as well just call it a "Captain's Log"-video recording instead of Twitch.tv inside the game and it'll just add to the immersion~ Yes, I am into role-playing, what tipped you off?
twitch TV integration sounds okay, and not too sand entitled but FaceBook and Twitter integration seems too much and I've always hated the idea of them being in games.
Twitch.tv steaming settings, for streaming gameplay and stuff. They do side projects like this on Sundays. I imagine it helps them relax since according to the blog they make a decent amount of progress the other days of the week. Having little fun side projects like this lets them relax some and not want to head desk. From my understanding side projects are only to be worked on during Sundays to not interfere with getting the beta out. I find the idea interesting, I don't like the games where their is just a bunch of big "TWEET/POST" button, but didn't mind in games like Swords and Sworcery having the tweet option since it never seemed to in my face. I also like having it be a physical object. Best of luck guys.
I read the idea and the first thought was why not a smartphone like device? Given the tech level of the game's setting it seems like such a device would exist. I mean we do so currently so why not?
In my honest opinion keep facebook out of this, I dont need another way for social media to track me. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Well, those are features I'll probably never use, but at least it's nice to know they exist for those who will.
I think the optional facebook/Twitter thing is a great idea! Edit : I just noticed it's written Master Chief under my name, Starbound forums are awesome!
I like this idea although I think that if you had a said item that let's you post on facebook or other social media devices you should make it more command based. You could give commands such as "/postfacebook I'm playing the newly released starbound WOOT!" or even incorporate posting screenshots. GREAT IDEA
Not a huge fan of the idea. Having streaming be attached to an object like this means that any potential hosts would need to lug this machine around everywhere they went in case they found something cool, and then put it down underground/in a dungeon/on their ship, etc. Having it attached to a menu dialog or something similar means that they can start streaming whenever they'd like without having to fuss with in-game objects. EDIT: To clarify, twitch integration is super neat, and Facebook/Twitter integration could be awesome too if it's done right. I just think that a feature made to make streaming/posting to Twitter/Facebook should be made for convenience first, and immersion second. If you're streaming or posting somewhere, you're breaking your own immersion. There's no need to dress up those features because they're inherently immersion-breaking.
Having a stream item doesn't seem too bad, but don't go too crazy with social integration. Having twitter connected would be enough.
I feel like there should be mention made at some point early in the game that these machines exist, but after that I concur, it should just stay out of your way! This sounds like the right direction to me!
Integrating social media is a great idea. I never use Twitter or Facebook, but they make damn good advertisements, and I love that they're optional. Anyways, this talk about twitch reminded me about that Hunger Games stream you guys might do. Quick suggestion: If you do it, I think you should give us a time and date in advanced so that I don't end up missing it like I do with most of the good streams ;_;
I love the twitch integration idea and I don't mind the rest of it provided I don't have to partake and its not nagging me to do so. However in response to this quote perhaps you can have a kind of star trek-Esq kind of communicator device or smart phone or something along those lines so that as long as you have the machines to do so somewhere in the universe say on your ship you could start recording or post at any time using that device. This would help streamers because they could use the device to send out a quick tweet before they start streaming, That is always immensely helpful not only to the streamers but to those watching as well.
Personally I would never use the Facebook integration. Personally I have NEVER seen a post from a non-facebook game ever appear on my feed. I think most people have many friends on their Facebook that are outside even the casual gamer demographic (Relatives, Co-workers, Sporting Buddies, Potential Love interests) and thus feel annoying or embarrassed to post things from games.
