I like the new hotbars. They are pretty much the same as in Sky Saga, which is a good thing. The first time I saw that system there I it took about 5 minutes to get used to it and now I cannot imagine using anything else. I'm really happy that we can have those in Starbound too.
or maybe we could just let the people voice thier opinion in a simple way.. strawpoll! i set one up right: here edit: (yes i know there's typo's in there.. i forgot to spell check) please share!
You do realize that the Strawpoll is in no way representative? Way more people read the comment section of a Blog post if the do NOT like what they see. People who do like it for the most part just think "That's neat" and go play the game or continue whatever the were doing. This is a very common phenomena, and very well researched, it has to do with the fact that we are way more affected by negative emotions than by positive ones. So, I am very sure that in your poll the most extreme negative will have many, if not the most voices, because people who do not like something are more inclined to do something about it, whereas people who like something do not need to change it, so the do not even look for the opportunities to do so.
true i guess.. but atleast its a nice way of seeing how many people agree at the very least.... (edit: + i told them to share didn't i)
The ones who stay silent are those who have no opinion one way or the other. It's those who strongly feel that the change is either positive or negative, that voice their opinions. Judging by the reactions so far, I would say that most people are on the fence - the new hotbar is neat for one thing, the old hotbar was neat for other things. I feel that most people would prefer being able to either use both, or be able to pick from either. On the other hand, people who like something are inclined to keep it that way, and are similarly incentivised. As I mentioned before, those that stay silent on the matter are not a positive measure - they are just "okay" with it. It is those who would strongly prefer one system over the other, who are the most driven to vote and voice their thoughts. Like you, for instance.
i just hope they consider adding the ability to split the slots so we can pick left/right combination on the fly again because my death rate has gone up by like 5 times because i either try to right click a healing item to equip it wich does nothing anymore.. ok this is something id just have to get used to thats fine.. or because i do witch to the healing item. but it set up with a different weapon wich isnt suited for that situation wich ends up getting me killed.. it was so much easier just being able to swap out 1 item instead of needing to pre-pair every slot just to make sure you're prepared for any possible situation.. :/..
My Tech ability is defective. does anyone know any admin code to have the techs back? sorry about the english
I actually like the look of the new-style hotbar. It's going to be much easier to swap around your active items, which was my biggest complaint about the old hotbar. Also... DOG FRIEND!
So I checked on the nightly, and by"toggle between two bars, it means you have two sets of the same bar. Really disappointed with this change; not only did it take away everything I had in my original toolbar (as well as my techs!), but the new one just feels clunky to use after using the old one for so long. I hope there is an actual option to change it back to the old toolbar. In all honesty, can we at least have the option to use the old one? Although it means that you have 12 slots now instead of 10, now the items have to stay in your inventory for it to work. Before, you essentially had an extra 10 slots or so, which really helped during exploration and excavation. The new system, although nice to have for duel wielding and such, feels clunky when you want to deselect items. You can only right click on them while the inventory screen is up, whereas before you could just left click, like you did with everything else. I will probably need to use it more to get used to it and all, and I'm sure I'll appreciate it later on, but for right now, I'm not impressed or happy with the change.
If it turns out that it is not a significant improvement (not saying that it isn't here), would you create plans to change it later, or just stick with it how it is?
I am not excited about the new hotbar since I normally swap between several weapons. By having to set these up in pairs I now have to duplicate my main/offhand setup for each weapon which reduces the number of items i can switch between even given a second hotbar. I would have preferred an option to setup several weapon setups to toggle through with a normal hotbar dedicated to utility/offhand items.
This is rather clever, although I fear the change will take some getting used to. Why not have one bar set up like this for the sake of weapons and equipment, while having another bar set up the original way for the sake of items and construction?
: I like the new hotbar. I think everyone will just need to get used to it. But some people are right, I'm not much of a building type person, but if i were to start a build it wouldn't be easy with that hotbar. But the combat perks of this hotbar are amazing ! Thanks for ze' new hotbar : 3!!! They do have a separate hotbar u can click 'x' hotkey and switch over to. But its still the dual wielld type hotbar. But I know what you mean, it might be somewhat harder to build with the dual-wield thing.
I feel like in order to make blocks (or building in general) to work with this new system, you would need to change how you place blocks in the foreground and background. Like you could left-click to place the left slot block and right-click to place the right slot block (both blocks in the foreground), then hold shift to place the same blocks in the background.
i miss the old toolbar!! this new one sucks. first off the old one served as extra item, secondly if you want to control the second hand switch just make it a hold key and scroll. that would be better then this new hot bar. and easier. i like the old tool bar. sorry guys. also you guys need more pets then just dogs. there are alot of kitty cat people. and i think you should have rare mystical friendly creatures you can encounter along the way. oh and also for builders this actionbar sucks. now you limit the amount or material you can hold in action bar...
I really don't see why they would need to change the controls for block placing. The action bar is no longer extra storage, it's just shortcuts to items. And just like before, placing blocks requires two hands, so a block in the action bar takes up both the "left" and "right" slots, just as a two-handed weapon does. And really using the action bar for building is not a terribly good idea anyway.
For now, the action bar can be used by builders, switching the bars (one for battle against the enemies, the other one for blocks (6 slots/bar)) but I guess using it will require some practice.
Having the menu open takes up screen space. I like to get as much of a view as I can. My primary comp[aint about the new bar is you cant drag stuff off it, so I have to hunt it down in the inventory tabs in order to move it around.
