Hm im not a big fan of the new Actionbar, UNLESS you can use the "old" one too? As far as i see it on the gif, it may be able to change back to the old style by clicking one of this squares on the left top side of the actionbar? Id be glad
You still should know, if the Update did influent you, you do use the nightly build. Which is not bugfree. Neitherless, you could simply add you your lost Items via Admin commands, they still do work.
The Nightly update build is NOT meant for "stable" play. You WILL lose things, including all progress.
And tech's D : liking the hotbar, gonna take some getting used to doe. But ye' just spawn those items back in. ./spawnitem >item ID here<
Every update, Starbound is becoming more and more "2D pokemon in space" with the whole capture pods thing. Not that there's anything with that.
I feel like the two action bars should be different, one with the old individual slots and one with the new coupled slots. It would be like a "combat" mode and a "building" mode. This new action bar feels too combat-oriented for a sandbox game, but it would be perfect for an action game.
I'm okay with this new bar, now that I've had a moment to try it. Oh and @thatfeelinc, I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, dual wielding will be easier, but now you kind of have less toolbar space, depending on if you use two-handed stuff or not. Couldn't we at least still be able to hold both, for example, a broadsword and a hammer in the same pair of slots, but you can only use one at a time and switch them around with Z like before? Otherwise this new inventory would take up a LOT more space than the old one, not to mention that the hotbar slots no longer are inventory space, but instead just shortcuts for stuff in your inventory. I feel like there needs to be some more balancing around this idea.
this will take some getting used to... but it's a VERY welcome update =D edit: also this. at least until people are used to the new one system xD
I wouldn't mind the new hotbar being used alongside the old one, to be honest. It's a great way of switching persistent equipment sets, but it makes no sense to completely override the hotbar with it. Something like three pairs of items you can switch between via Tab or something (like in Diablo), plus the old hotbar centered on the currently selected pair. The items-as-shortcuts thing can be kept too, it does make sense, though there better be some interface hints in the inventory of where a given item is stashed to.
Unfortunately, this tends not to work in practice. If you allow the use of the old system then people just continue to use the old system and never get used to the new one. Until you remove the old system at which point you get a lot of protests about removing it. So if the intention is to entirely remove the old system then it's best to just do it.
We have no plans to include both hotbars. We wouldn't change the hotbar unless we were confident that the new version is a significant improvement.
Oh. Nice. Now I can have an utility toolbar, and quickly switch to a combat toolbar when enemies appears. I'm not sure about having them forced in pairs, though. I liked being able to switch left and right independently. Switching to pistol from sword without switching the shield and the like. Now I would have to preemptively have a sword+shield and a pistol+shield slots, so I would need to get two shields instead one, and that reduces the amount of possible combinations and freedom to swap. But I guess it'll be really hard switching between without number buttons or a pointing device, which would make it a pain for use in consoles that do not have one. Still, I wish there was an option to switch between two tool bars of 12 free slots and 2 action bars with 6 linked pairs.
please allow us to separate the slots at least.. i'm used to left/right clicking whatever i want to be in wichever hand so i can quickly change between things while in combat or when im building to make things faster.. after playing on the nightly builds for a while i find that this has become extremely tedious because i have to keep opening my inventory to swap out combinations because i either want to have a different combination of items or i have something i need to change and i dont wanne have to replace 8 slots on my hotbar just because i found 1 new weapon.. as a replacement for the one in my current sets.. i tend to fill up both hotbars even faster then i did the previous one and as much as this seems like an improvement some aspects, so far it caused me more trouble, delays and deaths.. rather then improving anything.. please atleast give us the option to use it like we're used to.. i beg you..
I think minds will go different ways about this, i absolutely prefer the old system, others may prefer the new one :/ I just hope some modders, if the new system stays, will take up the work to change the "Actionbar" into its old appeareance.
For controller-using players yes, but there is no sense in limiting the keyboard&mouse users who are by and large much more at home with a layout that utilizes the entire top number row. The combinatorial explosion problem alone means that the setup is not strictly an improvement - it creates functional limits to what gear a character can actively employ in combat. It does make equipping sets of two one-handed items quicker, but that is unfortunately the only thing it makes easier - the tradeoff of losing the ability to dynamically equip any pair of items in the hotbar is not something everyone will find acceptable, to say nothing of being unable to see the entire set of hotbar items at a glance.
