pfff kakapo is way better its a real, defenseless, harmless, flytess, giant, green, owl like parrot, that climbs tree, eat berries, and will try to mate with your hair, it also walks like a old English lord and sounds like a moonshine jug being blown at
I definitely agree with this. The Left-Right slot system needed work....or replacing. It was kind of a time consumer, especially switching from a build slot to a weapon slot at the drop of a hat or fast. This new system looks promising....even though I have used the old one for a long time now, it never felt natural or comfortable.
Here we go. A Work In Progress, but I think you get what I mean: There were no 1's in the picture, so I wasn't able to put a 1 beside the first key, same for the rest of the numbers, lol. But this should be enough to give you an idea of what I mean. I'm a complete newbie at spriting (this is my very first sprite work ever), so sue me lol.
If you're referring to my mock-up, all 12 could be used for building OR combat. Stick whatever you want in those, they go like this: Code: 1 2 3 R T Y 7 8 9 4 5 6 0 - = Now, granted, you're probably going to put combat stuff on the left, building stuff on the right because the 7 through = keys are not as easy to reach if you don't have an MMO mouse or something lol. But it's still better than having to hit another key to access those.
I'm going to be very disappointed if they do not give us an option to freely switch from the old and new one.
Well this is sort of how I'd like the changes... But not exactly. From what I understand: -You are forced to use the pair in paired slots, and the L/R cursors can't be moved manually anymore. -You cannot switch through all available items without switching hotbars. -There is still not a "unequip all" pseudo-slot for when you have a full hotbar and don't want to be holding anything. -Since the hotbars now use items from your inventory, your hotbar items take up space in your normal inventory instead of hotbar space. Depending on how moddable the UI and controls are, upon release of 1.0, I might try to put the hotbar in line with my old suggestion here which would, in my opinion, be the best of both worlds. I'd remove the hotbar-switch key and instead make it the merge/split cursor key (see link for info), and I'd probably add - and = keys so there are 12 slots like the new system (barring the second hotbar, which IMO would be unnessessary with the freedom of my system.) Might even make ~ be quick access to the "sheath/free hands" pseudo-slot.
I'd prefer it if we could have modular collars that allow you to add skills and passive actions to monsters that just charge or do nothing but walk about also I'd love a collar that could turn large flying pets and quadrupeds into mounts.
I will need to try the new hotbar in action before I can give a good judgement. It look nice, I can at least say that much.
This is wonderful news! I've always wanted a better hot bar for this exact reason! and DOGS need i say more?
I'm a little mixed on the hotbar changes. On one hand, I can see a number of nice uses to this new versions and will likely use one set of 6 for combat related things, and the other set for building. Though unless the toggle between the two is pretty easy to hit, it could be very annoying when having to swap back and forth often while exploring as sometimes you need easy access to torches and dirt to manage surroundings and then have to swap to combat items because some random monster decided to fall from above or wander in from some other nearby location. And it is pretty easy to see why doing the change as sometimes want a 1h gun and a shield, and others a 1h gun and bandage, bandage and shield, or 1h gun and a 1h melee, or even two shields. With the old hotbar it was a bit clunky if needed or wanted those kinds of things often. The biggest thing will likely miss from the old hot bar is the default L/R slots. As those are often the place I would put utility items that get used with many other things like shields, flashlights, bandages, and some 1H weapons.(And yes, flashlights still have a use since now the EPPs compete with the Lantern on a stick series of items for the back slot, and even the augment slot on the EPPs have competition for stuff other than light.) The biggest reason put some things there instead of a slot is while don't always need them, they pair so well with a number of things. A shield is likely the best example, as it is the one item most likely to be used with multiple others. Such as if need to heal, it makes sense to have a shield in the other hand to help get time for the healing to happen. Or if using a 1H weapon, a shield is always a solid choice to go with it in most situations. And it would be pretty nice to not have to drag out a staple item like a shield to a slot on every single hotbar pairing that is not filled on a set that only needs a single one handed item otherwise. So if possible, I think the best solution would be a bit of a hybrid of the two. Open up the hotbar slots to both hands for each option, but also keeping around a default slot that can be used to automatically fill in empty hand slots on various slots.
...and? I'm... not sure what the problem is here? "Oh no I have to maybe press one more key"? Oh no? A fraction of a second lost? No, really. This is... not a problem. I'm baffled at this contention. Why would a builder need to worry about this? It's not like building requires lightning-fast reflexes. It is, by its very nature, methodical and slow. And I AM someone who does lots of building. It's my primary draw for this game. They gave me a little badge-thingy for it, in fact. And frankly, I stopped using the action bar to store building materials I'm actively using like a year or more ago. I almost invariably use more types of material in a build than even the old action bar would allow for, plus then I'd have to re-shuffle my action bar again to plunk back in my adventuring gear, so now I just use materials straight from the main inventory window. It's vastly easier to have them all in there. The only building blocks I keep in the action bar is one pack of unusual-colored dirt to use as a landing point marker on new planets (and to throw up shields to block enemies if need be).
One question, when can I use this!? I really have been wanting to dual wield with ease!!! In the nightly waiting 4 this update to come *drool* (Using the gauntlets and trying to switch around with other weapons/healing items has become a little bit of a problem atm! Thank ya' 4 making this.) I can see some don't like it, I can understand this isn't for everyone. But I sure like it
The new bar is good so far. While I normally dont use shields or dual wield, I can see the potential. The switching of bars is nice and the default key is x, but can be switched to something else (I moved it to tab, as someone suggested earlier). Also, the scrolling now goes right through the center section with the manipulator. It used to restart back at the beginning when scrolling from the manipulator buttons, but now it just continues down the line (which I love, since it was a little confusing and dangerous when panicking in battle). The only downside is having to keep the items in your inventory while also in the hotbar. We do have weapons and healing items thrown at us quite often, so having them take up space will take some getting used to, but I guess that means working on inventory management. One thing that got to me was that after I updated, the items in my hotbar were gone. Like, even in the inventory, they were changed to other items (there goes the protectorate sword). I know that its just because of the change and wont happen to new files or ever again from here on out, but just as a warning to others when they start up the new nightly. Also, a little off topic, but it seems the techs are down in the new nightly. The ones I had were removed and they didnt show up in the outpost machine. Normally, if something goes wrong or stops working for a while, then that means it might be getting an upgrade, so maybe getting new techs in the future? I miss the rocket boots one...
Hi, this new update caused me to lose everything I had in my toolbar, including all of my weapons, my boat, and all of my bandages/med packs. is there any way to get them back??? please help....
