I like this idea. I've used to label my chests in Terraria but is was useless because you need to click on sign to know what's in there anyways. This sort of labels would be awesome.

They need to make it an "on rails" tutorial to resolve this issue. The current solution is ineffective (someone can still beam down without reading the sign and/or the quest) and it negatively affects the aesthetic of the ship.

They should have a quest marker system that highlights the locker, with an on screen tutorial message telling them to take their equipment out of the locker while the teleporter is disabled. Then another message telling them how to equip their items. Then unlock the teleporter for use and tell them to beam down to the planet. They could even put the teleporter pad in the locker and have a tutorial step for them to place the teleporter on the ground, showing them how to place objects before they can leave the ship.

The majority of games have an on rails tutorial to avoid issues like they've found with people teleporting down to the planet prematurely, there doesn't seem to be any reason they can't implement the same solution in this case.

The suggestion to make the signs independently placeable objects with customisable text is a cute one though, although it doesn't help the effectiveness of the tutorial it certainly fixes the aesthetic problems.

Everything is still too unnoticeable, here are my suggestions:
    - Make seizure-inducing popup labels that fill the entire screen every time the player comes into contact with the objects.
    - Get Bartwe to sing a catchy jingle with the object names' as the lyrics, and make them play every time you pass by the object.
    - As for the locker issue specifically, rig the cpu to blow up every time players try to beam down to the starting planet without first checking the locker, that ought to teach em' a lesson.

I can certainly agree with that. However, the whole thing looks like it could become moot if the items were dumped into our inventory by default, as in Terraria where you spawn with the stuff already on you.

You could just make an option to turn the text on and off maybe so once people know where it is they can turn it off but have it on by default maybe. Just a thought.

    I like this idea :D

Maybe the teleporter could be "broken" and there's an item in the locker that will fix it?

I agree, this should definitely be it. Or some sort of I.D card so the teleporter allows you access.

    That's a good idea too.

Also I was wondering if we could customize our ships once we get our station?
If so then maybe we could switch out the parts?
maybe even have more storage or other "better" parts?

    "fuel"
wait a minute has it already been pinned down how to refill the fuel tank?

Chucklefish, don't you see a part of the comunity is loosing interest in this game ?

We gave you more money than every single person here will ever have.

You know you can release the beta and make update in the future.

There are so many comments, and I'm not sure if anyone's suggested this, but why not have the text holo-projected during the tutorial's "active" period, as well as the cockpit when that part is reached, and then turn them off when the required objective is reached. Alternatively, you could find a way to add images to the objetive screen and show it that way. You could also auto-highlightthe locker like it's being hovered over, while the objective is active, or turn off the teleporter and require the locker to be opened before being able to beam down or navigate elsewhere. :)

Instead of "LOCKER" being -attached- to the locker, why not a removable sign that says LOCKER placed above it?

Maybe a sign system which utilizes that graphical look, so players could make their own digital blue signs or re-purpose those three they started with.

Or, maybe even have video tutorials accessable in chunks whenever certain objectives are active/reached. This way, if an individual forgets how to do something or gets lost, a handy video guide is there to help without spoiling future unlockable features! :geek:

That would be the obvious thing to do, but maybe younger players who are used to playing games where nothing in the world can be interacted with might miss it somehow.

I suppose a floating arrow or picture (Like a treasure chest or gas can) above the quest objective does not need to be translated into other languages, too.

So I guess that's a thing to consider, do you want to translate that graphic's text for every language the game comes out in?
