The Devs are likely working or resting they don't tend to post unless they have news it seems and there is no accounting for how some people act even here sadly but you can't let people ruin a game for you even if they are rude it only serves to make them look bad to others.
I've had 4+ tech, and the big issue about it is that we can't switch between them quickly . We have to open the inventory and clic on the tech icon. We could make some nice combos if we could shortcut them.
I am very happy with this update. Combat seems much more balanced now. There is perhaps more ore spawning than there should be, but I think I read somewhere that the spawn was increased for now. My first trip underground yielded bars of about 200 copper and iron, 100 gold and silver, 50 platinum and diamond (not bars, but refined ore, obviously). I didn't have any pixels to make anything but it does seem like a bit much to get right off the bat. I think one problem is the frequency at which ore spawns in easy to mine areas. I found a giant mud area underground which my copper pickaxe flew though and there was TONS of ore there. It would be silly to get ore any other way (besides maybe caving in massive piles of sand and just letting the ore contained fall to you). [Edit in the interest of combining posts] Ehhh.. I've been knocked back a ways but it was mostly because I was jumping when hit and I was on top of a hill. For the most part it doesn't seem bad. Birds ARE hyper aggressive now but I like it. Makes them an actual threat now rather than enemies that just float by. From my experience, most (or at least half) of their attacks are mid-range and are easily avoidable if you don't charge at them blindly. Utilize timing and ranged weapons if needed. I've been swarmed by 3 fire and smoke bellowing birds and managed to execute them with 3-4 well timed strikes each with the starting weapon. It's also perfectly OK to run when you feel outnumbered.. just because it's on your screen, it doesn't mean you NEED to kill it or should be able to with ease. Before you get offended, I'm not implying this is what you do. Overall.. maybe it could use some tweaks. 10-20% reduced range at which they charge you. 10-20% reduced knockback on hit. I'm fine if it stays as-is though.
I've had 2 techs before the massive patch and I'm sad to say that you can only use 1 tech at a time, but you can carry up to 4 techs with you and switch between techs at any time. I find that silly and a bit sad :l
The example I gave was when I landed on the planet and I was attacked on the spot. I didn't even have the chance to run away. Its not like I saw them, picked a fight, and lost. No, I just got blasted on the spot. I never said it should be easier. I said I believed the birds' damage is too high. A 30-35+ blast early on shaves off too much health which you may not even be able to heal. Reducing it's damage by 10 would be fine since it gives you a chance to survive the encounter. It is, you take damage much easier now. Before however, I felt you had too much leniency on it, now it seems it's too strict. A nice middlepoint between the before-after point would be perfect though. I dont think you can say this about the creators though, I'm fairly sure they're working around the clock to patch stuff up. Also, I found a tiny, but still present bug: Sometimes NPC's wont have visible text boxes. Their textbox appears, but... well, I added a screenshot, see for yourself.
My new character landed on a ver unfriendly planet. 1) Almost NO trees. I had to walk 5 minutes to find a single tree. 2) Very aggresive monsters. Monsters had 3 differents capacities : - One type with acid spray, with fast movement and very impressive jump - One with gravity shot, a sort of black energy ball that either kill you or make you die from fall damage - Birds with cold gaz and some kind of missile - No close combat mobs, only ranged ones. It was 2 shots before I die most of the time, hardly was able to find coal / tree at the surface .... and the planet I ended on was alone, no proximity planet I could go to for a single coal ore :'( .... --> I made a new character after 1 hours of endless death I think it's part of the fun, somtimes you're lucky with your starting point .... sometimes it's almost worth than hell.
Didn't read all the comments, but have you added the FUEL RODS as fuel? It might just be me but it would make more sense to have the ship function of the rods and not the ore, or at least more efficiently... (And I have proven to myself once again that I should check things before I post, the rods do fuel the ship) And idea for added content, when you use up the fuel rods you get depleted fuel rods that you can then re-enrich in some sort of reactor machine?
I agree, I like randomly generated planets and sometimes them being really hard and either you grit thru it and find a way or you reroll. I'm not saying there isn't stuff still broken, I spent 4 hours with a friend (I know having a friend helps!) and we were dying left and right until we finally got some better gear. It defiantly made the gear important. We had to be crafty to avoid enemies too and only fight when absolutely necessary. I love games like Dark Souls/Demons Souls so---I like a hard game. Consequences. Where it really means something when you craft those first few items. Etc.
Well, I gotta say I really don't like the latest hotfix. Whereas the crafted weapons undoubtedly were OP before, they are now a bad joke. Along with some other supposedly tier 2 weapons I found they now do less damage than my freaking starting weapon, rendering them effectively useless. Monsters on the other hand can kill me with a few hits, or less if it is a bird, Armor doesn't help AT ALL. I don't want the game to be easy like a walk in the park but atm it is WAY to hard imo. I don't want to play some kind of survival horror where most of my thoughts have to revolve around not getting killed, I want to play a nice sandbox where I can build, explore, mine in relative peace if I choose to, without constantly fearing to get attacked and insta-killed by overly aggressive and extremely dangerous monsters even in the very first sector..
Ok. So it could be a good thing to create a sort of 'safe zone' to spawn on, or invulnerability for like 2 seconds.
Just going to say that I totally agree that birds are super OP at this point. It's terrible to the point that I can barely play anymore due to the fact that I keep getting like 2 or 3 shotted by these birds with an arsenal of multi-hitting, barely able to dodge, and hard hitting moves. It's godawful and needs to be fixed. If you're going to give the birds such ridiculous moves, make them do less damage. Makes more sense that way.
I like the bird damage, and after a few deaths I took them seriously. They seem smarter, and fighting on a mountain with the possibility of death sounds like a good time. I like the knock back damage. From the little I have read, it seems there are a lot of people who would enjoy easy mode. Maybe that could be a possibility. I am however, enjoy starting on hard. The gold ore and diamond ore seem to be more common on the two planets i have dug. If anything was changed, I liked the ratio before with diamond set the same as gold. They were scarce but I had to work for them. I like coal being used to craft torches. Being that we are explorers, adventurers, running out of supplies is a must. I ran out of torches last night. I didnt like it, but i do have a flash light, and I was forced to use it. Also, i noticed that lanterns gave off more light. So instead of just blasting through this underground cavern, it was much more enjoyable. Keep up the great work, wish i could play all day. I will try making it to the end of this thread.
One way to fix the birdemic issue is to change their AI a little. Make some birds chase forever, make some give up on a cowardly prey, make some attack if really near, make some run away faster when you're near, etc. AI is key
You seem to have hard and easy mixed up with balanced as this is still beta I don't mind a harder game but it has to be balanced and maybe unbalanced is fine for you but we are here to test and balance not say everything is fine for me so everyone else must be wrong.
You can manually delete it (if you only have 1 character) by going into the following directory {Steam/steamapps/common/starbound/player}
I really am surprised at how much people are complaining about these birds. I honestly do not think they are that bad. 1) They seem to do less damage than land creatures. It means a fight with a bird can be more than a 2 second "Oops, he hit me, I'm dead" 2) They seem to have less health than land creatures. It means that if you are able to maneuver quickly and land a couple good hits, you will most likely succeed. 3) They seem to want to stop a good distance away from you and either launch a slow moving projectile that's easy to dodge, or emit a short range blast of some kind that is easy to avoid by stepping back. 4) They have fairly lengthy delays between attacks so if you just wait until an attack ends, you can usually get in there with a melee. If there are multiple birds with staggered attacks, kite them a little bit so they all reach you at the same point and attack at the same time. 5) I honestly don't think the knockback is that bad. Don't stand on elevated ground when fighting them and you won't be blasted back too far when they hit you. 6) Learn to utilize ranged weapons when needed. They're not just for farming meat, they can be a real asset when fighting birds. 7) If the fight seems overwhelming, duck underground. Or use the MM to make a little temporary shelter first. 8) Let the bird make the first attack if you're going melee. If you charge in first, you'll likely get hit first.
