Imo your whole whinning post has been killed by this false statement. Birds are powerful, yes. But I don't think it kills the game, it makes it intresting.
So far it looks like my formerly overpowered weapons are now at appropriate damage levels. Combat seems mostly balance so far except that fliers have a huge visibility range and those with attacks like bubble or the shock blast can nearly on hit kill you on level appropriate armors. Doesn't help when you get flocks of 5 of them chasing you. Besides that kudos on what you did so far balancing. A suggestion that I'm sure others may have brought up, I would like to be able to craft furnashings from my own race. So far I've been stealing and copying them with the 3D scanner (if I don't take enough).
I disagree, i too have had problems with flocks of rock chucking acid spitting lava vomiting birds, always out of range of my sword, @Ethobot I'd be curious as to how you got that also, because the only dagger i can make has a DPS of 7 with a per swing of 5
PLEASE add all of the patch notes (or links to the patch notes) to the announcements section of the community page on steam. It gives a good impression that the game is constantly being updated to the average steam user, because not all of them will come here or even know to come here for patch notes. A lot of times I will look at the patch notes of early access games to see what was added, how many patches there are and what the time is between patches and a lot of times that determines if I purchase an early access game. I don't want to buy a game that doesn't appear to ever be updated and that is the point I am getting at. Loving the game so far and looking forward to future updates!
I have no idea whether my current character(s) are pre-fix to the bad update or not. I would prefer you wipe characters - I don't care if a lot of clueless people that don't understand beta or lack reading comprehension cry a lot. There seems to be no lack of players who like to exploit, cheat, play broken games, and/or mod their games to be pointless due to how overpowered they make themselves or how easy they make the game. That's not going to help test the game or push quality development. Wipe em!
Heyyyyyyyy..... How do we now see what lvl are we or how much xp we have? Because before the patch I was like lvl 3 then the bug came and I went to lvl 15 and made a 5356dps samurai sword but now after the patch I'm lvl 1 and all of my items went to lvl 1. So after the patch I played for like 6 hours and still remained lvl 1(metalwork bench wise) . What's happening?!
Nope, that's a fact. Especially if you jumped at the correct time and land on one of the shots. I died from fall damage after I got thrown sideways a whole screen after touching one of the fireball projectiles. AT 65% HEALTH. I commented once before that the knockback system that scales according to damage seems a bit wrong and can be boring in the long run. It doesn't kill the game but the birds are crazy powerful to the point of silliness. Something must be done.
As an observation: discussing about balance, in a balance patch seems normal ^^. About the difficulty, I think that during this part is better to have an easier game, so that you can test every part, founding bugs even in the "end" game.
You can go to the properties of the game in steam. One of the tabs lets you choose whether to update the game automatically or not.
There are 4 tech slots, so you SHOULD be able to use up to 4 techs, but i have only found one tech so far, and it was before the update that deleted your characters so i haven't tested it yet.
You know, I'm not even going to bother posting my findings anymore. If I say that birds deal too much damage (which, simply said, is true for the start of the game), I am called "a spoonfed CoD player" by some fake elitist snob. If I post what happened when i got hit with absurd knockback (which has been confirmed by several others), I am called a liar and a whiner. If this is the way people who are posting their findings and thoughts are treated, I prefer not to be part of this community.
you know, you are not forced to engage the fight with birds. Just play around with the landscape, or even create it. Then, when you are better equiped, you can try to take them out. Also, don't tell me armor isn't playing its role, it is since it gives you more health. I don't understand why you want it to be easier, I personnaly want to get those chills when the battle music begins.
suggestions: UI: we need to organize our items! sorting options, and automatic stacking between chests and inventory. yeah, i know, i'm asking for a terraria feature here, but it worked. and im thinking you guys can make it even more intuitive than terraria did. allow for sorting by item type and quality, perhaps! that could work great. UI/gameplay: chests. with a vast amount of items in the game, 16 slots per chest might be too small. 24? 32? 48? lets play with these and see what works out. my ship is already full of chests gameplay/balance: i'm finding fall damage to be far more aggressive than it was a few days ago. can we cut that back a little? it was pretty nasty before, but now its rediculous. (or maybe im imagining things and its the same. either way, a few more blocks of leeway might help xD) mods: ok, actually, this is just a compliment. i love how moddable this is. the assets are well organized, and easily accessed for modding. that's a huge boon for people who want to inject their own sprites. even the spritesets themselves are nicely laid out for us. thank you (time to go put chozo power armor on my avian ) Balance: Coal is too valuable now! in early game, it's the only fuel, the only way to make torches, AND needed for steel? it's got too many uses, and is not nearly abundant enough to fill these needs. i dont want to have to decide between lighting a cave, or powering my FTL drive, and i shouldn't need to. ideas for a fix- allow converting wood to coal at a rate of probably between 4 and 8 wood to 1 coal, OR, allow use of alternate fuels. (hey what about the core thing the early boss drops? ) balance: buffs just don't last long enough. whether it be a stimpack or a status pod (which i dont even touch anymore because there is no status in there worth risking the instant death for) the duration is simply too short to want to even bother using them. (with the exception of the regen buff from red stims. that ranges from just right, to maybe a little too effective) balance: oops! shields broke! at low levels, shields seem meaningless now. they defend for 0 dmg from what testing has shown. and a thunder buckler i got ahold of only reduces damage by 1 or 2 now. then again, i assume shields are highly unfinished anyway due to lacking descriptions and stats, too. balance: light! what if you made a small pickaxe of each tier that could only break single blocks with the speed of the normal pick, but was also 1 handed so you could use a flashlight while digging, at the cost of the 9 block size? (yes i know about holding shift) - or make the maniulator 1 handed. to those having issues with avians- i think the idea is they're supposed to be a challenge. gaming often relies on a difficulty payout system where the harder it is, the better the rewards. the avian temples are filled with some of the coolest looking decor in the game, as well as some really neat stuff in chests, and as enemy drops. it's difficult, but worth it.
The game is unbalanced as before patch. The armor don't reduce "magic"/special damege in tier3 with best armor fly one shot. Yesterday weapons were OP now are useless, I need 4-5 hit to kill mobs with 2 they kill me (how much bandages i need, is enought a long int to conrain them?). No sense. Armor give health bonus but you respawn with always 100hp.
I feel you. Being an XP user, I've been insulted multiple times and called a complainer. So far nothing has been done to address the way most of the community is behaving, so I highly doubt the creators or admins even give a damn. I'm honestly questioning whether or not I even want this game anymore
I don't mind the character wipes or anything as such my self and none of this has gotten under my skin. I have only done what I can to point to issue I have seen far as I know. Others seem to have no issue not dieing even once... Where as most people are having a hard time just getting started anymore. Most of us know this is an early Beta to be sure I understand how you feel trust me on that. Having said that you can't let a few people who don't seem to have a single issue in said game put you off. On a side note I have gone through everything you listed and know what you have said is true.
Thx for the info! --- It seems that deactivating the updates *is* a bad idea as it does not seem to be a productive way of testing ^^ But its hard to resist sometimes ... and i love my OP wapons
