I can confirm that coal is tremendously rarer. But I've got gold and silver literally within sight and pick range in my home planet.

    Also, I want this seen:
Map Upgrades need to be saved to the character instead of servers (or however that works), just like the player ship itself. I don't want to be crafting the Map Upgrades again and again every time I join a different server.

    Thanks.

What does the "overpowered planets" actually mean? After the hotfix, all DPS on my weapons (even the crafted ones) went down. But how can one tell what is an overpowered planet?

This idea is absolutely awesome. I just can't tell how random traveling through space got since the new threat system is out.. it really feels like it doesn't matter wherever you go. Before the update it was one of the most funny things to discuss which planet to visit next and what to do or to search there and we visited dozens of planets. After the update we didn't even leave the first planet before traveling to beta sector because A: we didn't have the nerves to collect huge amounts of coal for steel AND fuel since wood can't be used anymore and B: we did not feel like we had to leave the planet. Everything was fine because "hey it doesn't matter, EVERY planet is level one so why leaving our lovely built houses and wasting coal for fuel".

There is currently no goal to see for players but crafting the distress thingy and then going to sector beta, then crafting the robot and going to sector gamma and so on.. no traveling for Mippy and friends anymore! we liked the feeling "hey we should try to survive a sector alpha level 10 planet in order to prepare for sector beta"

well my floran char can't walk five feet from beam down spot without every mob turning to her and going"YOU CAME TO THE WRONG PLANET MUTHA F$£KA!" Annnnd one shot, annnnd dead, Its wonderful having every hostile ranged attack, makes me feel wonderful and happy that the grim reaper is using my floran's head as lettuce in his salad after repeatenly sharpening his scythe.. i'm pretty sure he's just in a lawn chair eating said salad swinging it when ever a bird come and nukes me.

Hmm, not sure if I mean it like that.

The problem lies not within the amount of content, but how you stretch it out.
All planets in the alpha sector are lvl 1 now, that means there is essentially no difference in difficulty anymore? All the monsters on the 5 planets in the alpha sector I now visited dealt the same amount of damage and died equally fast.
That's just boring, for beginners and adapt players alike.

And while I give the devs one thing: They are bloody brilliant when it comes to creativity and ideas... but there is one thing they really suck at: Balancing and implementation.
OF COURSE, that's where the beta testers come in. This is beta, obviously it's unbalanced, the finished product has to be balanced, not the bile we sift through right now.
That's ok too. But please imagine those cases:

    1. You have a stick. Your stick is 10 meters long. Now you declare that this stick is ONE STICK long. And all sticks are measured by this standard. STICK is now a unit of measure.

    2. You have a stick. Your stick is 1 millimeter long. Now you declare that this stick is ONE STICK long. And all sticks are measured by this standard. STICK is now a unit of measure.

Now tell me in which case it's easier to put your finger on the length of exactly 0.35629831 STICK.

In case you're not good at theoretical mathematics(or the metric system for that matter): it's case 1. It's easier to tell that you've reached 35.629831% of the target length on a distance that's 10 meters as opposed to 1 mm.

I believe spreading the balance across 100 levels would be easier to manage than spreading it across 10. While it may sound good on paper to have fewer levels to balance, you leave yourself less "wiggle room".
I just wish the devs would realize this. But they still have time.

I would agree, but it's not too severe. They can always count on decimals. E.g. Threat level 2.23.

Wood got taken out as a viable source of fuel.

Use Coal in the early stages, after the tweaks to ore generation coal is even more abundant.

Just gonna chime in with what some other people are saying.

    • New planet threat level sucks, too plain/boring/random/redundant to have every planet as Lv 1. (no reason to explore other than to find towns and stuff.. no real sense of progression or accomplishment.. it's more of a quick grind now to get to the beta sector)
    • new weapon balancing could work but needs balancing (early guns suck.. , didnt get a close range weapon i was comfortable with until i killed a glitch knight guarding main golden chest and by then i was already in the beta sector so it didn't matter any more.. until then i was just using my iron hunting bow to one shot everything in the alpha sector)
    • coal is now scarce and gold is quite 'meh' and abundant.
    • i get insta-gibbed from minibosses in the alpha sector while wearing full scout armour..
    • UFO boss is too easy.
    • Please fix ABC files. (Triplets and all the missing bells and whistles(pun intended) stuff, also lots of desynching when playing in a group.)
    • 3d scanner is still eating up items. (lost a penguin in a snowglobe today. not impressed.)
    • (some? not sure if all..)Sewers yield no loot/treasure chests.
*Shruggs* you know. fix 'em whenever you feel like. Beta and all that.

Anybody else having trouble with ranged weapons (guns) being way too underpowered? Avians selling around 9 damage per shot?

They sure can, but how does that make it easier for the players? There is still zero point in space travel at all. You can't tell if a planet is better or worse, and you have all you need on your first planet.
You just get enough iron for the beacon, kill the UFO and get the hell out into beta sector to see some action.

Also how do dungeons scale now? I just made a new char again, murdered everything on the planet and found a sewer dungeon, a tiny piece of poop one-shot killed me. Whereas nothing else on the planet could as much as scratch me. So that's balancing equivalent to bashing your kneecaps with a tire-iron.
I think this down-scaling of levels comes with a plethora of new problems.

I have to agree here. As it stands for me it's hardly a joy to go back through do to the issues with shields and armor not doing much to reduce damage taken. flying creatures are still deadly as can be. Taking out wood as a form of fuel I can understand why but there wasn't a real need to do so ether way being that part of the game is traveling. If said wood allowed us to get to a place we couldn't using coal then I would understand but kinda pushing us to stick to one planet for longer then we would like and not explore. Now I thought I read that the idea was to have us explore more then we had been when first starting out?

If you go back to the 100 level system and start from that rather then using the 10 level system it would likely be less of an issue finding balance.

yes it does :D you just have the planets on the old char still generated so they stay crowded by ore and the new one will get the new updates so you are good :D

After last update my weapons power were decreased whereas the mob power increased. The planets still at lv1 for Alpha sector, but the planet i'm currently on, the monsters are so strong that i can't survive for more that 1 hit, to kill them, i need to give at least 15 hits :S ... The problem is that i don't have coal to move out, i didn't mark my home planet and the worst, every planet is marked as lv, so, i can't know where is a good place to mining and evolve my char :/ ... and yes, know it's beta, i'm just sharing my game progress :)

you can tell by the massive amount of ore and such take gold for an eksample it will be plentifull instead for the old spawn where it was really scarce :D
