$1000 purchase: gun limitations? And community weapon ideas

Alright, so this is a question that's been bugging me for a while now.

I was wondering, what types of limitations will there be on guns for the people that spent over $1,000? I haven't purchased it myself, but I'm curious what will happen if someone suggests a gun that has an adverse effect on game mechanics. I mean, will the devs flat-out say no to a person if they ask to have a gun that say... Spews lava all over the place?

Also, I'm not much of a portal fan, but the mechanics behind the game are incredibly interesting, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that a person would want to create their own portal gun, how would that effect game mechanics?

Also, this is a thread to give out ideas for guns to people who have purchased the $1000 package. While it IS their weapon, someone might have an idea for their weapon that they might like better, $1000 is no small feat, and input from the community might leave them satisfied with their purchase.

Make sure that you actually suggest something reasonable please, no "Instant kill assault rifles with 300 round clips, and shoot at the speed of a laser"

I suppose the balancing of an item's stats may be up to the devs in the end, whilst initial idea and handling would come from the player.

Its great that somebody is willing to give so much and yes they should be rewarded, but not at the expense of everybody elses fun.

I hope some form of archery is implemented.
Were I in charge of a $1000 weapon, I think I'd want to actually -exploit- what you're talking about, in terms of "how far can I push a weapon without it breaking the game". In my case, that'd be some form of projectile (rocket, missile, or even something like a railgun slug) that moves slowly enough at first that you could hop on it and ride it to its destination. I should hope its ammunition would be expensive enough that it's not practical to use as a transportation device except to someone who's already experienced.

Barring that it would be some sort of solar-powered grenade launcher where you have to recollect the depleted shells and charge them before using it again.

Excactly, which is why I was wondering how the devs would handle it.

I am curious though how they would handle an item that creates an entirely different game mechanic to work with

I figured when it says "design a weapon" you literally only design the aesthetics of what it looks like. So I think the team does the rest on how much damage it does and how fast it shoots.

I think if someone put in Portal Gun, they might have to turn that down since it sounds like something pretty tough to just suddenly throw in there. Unless its already in game. Plus who knows if it makes things incredibly unbalanced compared to everything else in game

From the Q&A on the preorder page,

It does sound like the purchaser gets some input on how the weapon works and what it does, but also that the devs will make sure it doesn't break the game.

That reminds me, I sure hope there are some interesting weapons, rather than the usual assault rifle that does 10 damage per shot, but you can upgrade it to do 11 damage a shot. I want some interesting weapons, assault rifles are fine and all, but they just aren't as fun as railguns, spike launchers, plasma whips, tesla grenades, ect.

The weapon also can't be copyrighted material. Someone who doesn't play TF2 tried suggesting a gun very similar to the Rainblower and the design ended up being refused. But they are working with him on trying to get a new design.

Yea I saw that thread, didn't realize that it was rejected however. But I guess it would make sense that you can't have a gun from other games.

I guess we better be careful not to have any scroll based weaponry, eh?

    some ideas...

a bowl of spaghetti that shoots meatballs?
a magnifying glass that only works in bright sunlight?
a flamethrower that looks like a butt? Fart-thrower? (ok, maybe not this one)
a crossbow that shoots out bolts that become platforms when stuck in a wall?
a bottle of bubbles and bubble wand?

oh, and a gun that doesn't actually shoot, but sounds like a 12 year old making laser effects as fast as he can.

    Those ideas...

I had an idea for a gun that actually houses and releases a cloud of bees for as long as you hold the mouse button, at the cost of energy of course, and when you released the mouse button they swarmed back in

or a mouse-following cloud of bees! (similar to the magic missile type spells in... "other games")

I've already imagine this one!!! But i think its little imba.
My though is that we just suggest weapons to devs!!!

What i'm seriously hoping for is a .50cal mounted gun on a jeep. But to get the true benefit of this you need to have the 'Band of Rambo', a red headband for your hat slot.
