Since Spears are already in the game as a 2-Handed version i would like to see 1-Handed versions as well that can be used together with shields. Im not sure if extra animations are needed, but it would be interesting to hold out your spear while charging with a shield.
Agreed, something like a shortspear used by the greeks (non-phalanx) or early medieval levy spearmen.
The issue with them is that the are thrown and they dont make use of different designs and dont forget the fact that you use them up.
makes sense if you use a shield too it also if someone want to dual wield spears then they should be allowed to do that there are no laws in a combat situation also not sure but i think i have heard about a viking that used axe and spear one time
I feel like, if this weapon were implemented, people would then ask "well why can't I throw it? It's a small spear after all." So maybe the implementation lies with the throwable spears already in the game: aesthetically, they should look like they are being wielded when selected on the hotbar.
You should be able to throw the pommel of your swords too so that you can end the enemies rightly. A cookie for anyone that gets the reference >.> Seriously though, we do have throwing weapons as separate already so I'm not sure it would be much of an issue for a one handed spear if implemented... then again people are bound to ask for redundancies I guess.
Skal would be so proud. Or facepalm so hard he injures his other arm. I kinda like the idea of one hand maces, slower but powerful blows that knock foes back a pace. Also seriously i like the idea of spear and shield combat, lets make it a thing.
Let's hope its the former! And a cookie for you Is armor penetration a thing? Maces and 1h warhammers might have that as an added bonus as well if so.
It was a feature in the very 1st beta versions of Starbound, but was among one of the first things that were taken out when the update came. While it has been brought up again before, it has never returned since. I'd personally be pleased if it could return, and add more depth to Starbound's combat system, but I'd want to be a meaningful feature instead of a redundant one.
