  18. i think it's bullshit. i mean i bet most of the people torrenting this stuff are from the west, and they're doing it mainly coz it's the only way for them to watch and actually understand. i mean more than half of the stuff that becomes popular never gets an official sub. the fansub groups are pretty much providing a free service to the production companies of the animes.

like, translation is fucking expensive afaik. the people who made muramasa rebirth were making a turnbased jrpg, well they did make it, and it sold really well in japan. but they were going to bring it to north america and europe. they had announced dates and advertised and everything, and then it all fell apart coz the translation was too expensive.

so where does their government even get these numbers from? like the lost profits. i mean are they actually counting each download as a lost sale? japanese people speak japanese, so they obvs don't give a shit about subs. like are they actually making the leap that if someone downloads an anime that they would otherwise buy it / watch it on tv if no dl were available? they probably can't watch it on tv or stream it coz they're not in japan, or they can't buy the dvd because it doesn't exist in their country or if their weeaboo store does sell it, it's in japanese and $100

not to mention all the money the weeaboos were going to spend on merchandise and shit now that they've downloaded their cartoons. welp good luck selling me your plush magical girls if i don't know who they are.
