    It looks like some packets are encrypted. I'm wondering whether the server uses a static key pair or generates one on the fly (like minecraft)

    What will stop cracked versions of Starbound from connecting to legit servers?

    I think it is nearly impossible to force every player to pay for the game. If they don't want to pay they won't - even with the "best" DRM system....
