Rayman Species 1.5

Three species and so much more!

  1. zelenbug
This mod adds three playable races from the Rayman series! It adds Raypeople, Globox people, and Teensies, with much customization for each, as well as some associated things like objects and weapons.
This is also on Steam Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3464040801

Like other mods that add races, you'll need a character creator extender mod (Chucklefish Forums link, Steam Workshop link). You'll need at least 3 free slots for this.

While Globoxes are still 4 blocks tall, Raypeople are 3 blocks tall and Teensies are 2 blocks tall. All three also have inherent slight differences in their rotation arm range. Besides that, all three of these species don't have any other unique abilities or stats.

In terms of customization, each has a shared unique namegen, numerous color options, unique clothing (they're basically incompatible with vanilla clothing, aside from some hats on the Globoxes), and the Raypeople have a lot of unique hair! My goal with the customization is to let you recreate basically any official character (of these species) you could think of, and have some unique generic customization options for OCs.

    Compilation of overall additions:
    - 3 species, each with numerous customization options
    - Clothing for each of the three, some new and some converted vanilla clothes
    - A custom ship with a custom ship pet
    - SAIL with unique dialogue
    - Unique objects and items (including weapons)
    - Largely unique inspect dialogues for around half of the vanilla objects, and converse dialogues (for vanilla to these species and vice versa)
    - Species-specific versions of some vanilla tenants

Each species shares the same unique ship, and a unique pet, the walking shell.
The ship is technically at its largest size in the last three tiers, with a giant tree in the middle of the ship, and for each consecutive tier it just unlocks slightly more space in the rooms to the sides of the ship.

The SAIL for the ship is actually Murfy! It's literally Murfy, the real guy, basically video calling you. He has unique dialogue where I could fit it, which is only on the ship itself, unfortunately, so not in missions or any of the tutorial text. He has unique mission descriptions and intro ship text, though!

Basically all of Murfy's dialogue was written by my friend (aside from the Dantalion mission text, which I wrote), so props to her!!!

The official lore for this mod, I suppose, is that your character voluntarily got sent far away into space with a teleporter, alongside other Glade inhabitants (which are the tenants!). Murfy, all the way from the Glade of Dreams, communicates with you through some kind of device, somehow connecting millions of light-years across the universe, and he pretends to be a robot during missions so the other NPCs don't find out he's not actually SAIL. Which is the way I get around the fact that I couldn't replace any of the SAIL mission dialogue (without also changing it for literally every other race). It's okay, just read it with a sarcastic tone of voice.

There's also plenty of non-Murfy dialogue I wrote, like converse dialogues for the species added in this mod, and also unique inspect descriptions for numerous objects (1404 out of 2880 as of 1.3!) It's usually unique across all three of the species too, which triples my workload but writing these is fun!

These species have a set of various crafting stations. All are craftable in the Inventor's Table for all three species.

Clothes Maker lets you create unique clothing for the species. This offers both references to Rayman characters, as well as generic items for OCs and such.

Clothes Converter lets you convert a select amount of vanilla clothes to those compatible with any of the species! Not all vanilla clothing is going to be available, but I periodically add to the set of options here.

Objects Maker lets you create various Rayman-themed objects. Each of them has a Rayman tag, and you only need 2 tiles with these objects to summon a Rayman tenant! Also available here are plum seeds, which can be planted into soil as every other normal crop.

Weapons Maker offers various weapons from the Rayman series, as well as miscellaneous additional items, such as parasols and mech bodies. Most of the weapons are T4 and upgradeable, but some are T6! The weapons, instead of costing a certain amount of pixels, use standard crafting ingredients such as durasteel.

Here's all of the available Raypeople hairs, the species' colors, the unique secondary colors some clothes can have, and all currently available clothes, with a separate image for vanilla ones.

Rayperson hair 37 was drawn entirely by another friend, props to her as well!

Also here's all objects and mech bodies!

As an additional thing, here's most of the vanilla hats that seem to work okay on Globoxes!

Highly recommended getting the Crew Customization + mod in order to customize the clothes for your crew members individually! Otherwise they'll all have the same vanilla (thus unfitting) Protectorate clothing, or you'll have to only have crew members of just one species out of any of these, in order to have clothing that fits them. You can also use it to make various funny little characters.

On a similar note, I also recommend NpcSpawner+, which will let you generate any character, including things from this mod, as an NPC.

This also supports the FutaraDragon Pixel Full Bright Shader mod! Some elements will glow with this mod installed, such as the flames on the walking shells when they're running, and the eyes in some head items.

    [added 2025.11.18]
I don't know how compatible this mod is with any big overhaul mods, as I don't have any of those, so exercise caution.
However, I request NOT to make any Frackin' Universe compatibility patches for it.
Additionally, since someone asked (under like every race mod on Steam Workshop), please don't make adult mods with this either.

Note that this mod doesn't come with custom dungeons, and you won't encounter anything from the mod in general, unless you play a character from these species yourself first (or use admin commands).

The mod folder contains an .ods (OpenDocument spreadsheet) file with every name for added items and objects, to be used with /spawnitem (for example, /spawnitem raymanraggedprotectoratecapeteensy)!

If you have any feedback, let me know in the forum thread or in the Steam Workshop comments!
If the game crashes, or an NPC suddenly dies from being talked to, or something like this, then you must share the starbound.log file (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\storage\starbound.log).

I also haven't tested everything with my mod, just let me know if there's any issues.
