Avali - Compound Tech Bow v1.1

Adds an Avali-themed bow to the game. Includes an animated weapon mount version!

    [NEW: 09/13/15]: My mod has now been merged into the fan update "Avali (Triage)". You no longer need this mod installed as an addon if you are using the most up to date version. The "maintainers" of said mod have mentioned that also plan to rebalance the bows (something I couldn't really decide on), so that's good too!

    [URGENT - READ NOW]: This mod has been updated to Upbeat Giraffe, but requires the fan update found here.

    [ATTENTION]: This mod requires the Avali Race mod by RyuujinZERO, which can be found here.

    NOTE: The muzzle flash seen on the second to last shot does appear on every shot. Apparently I didn't set the the .gif recorder I used to a high enough FPS to catch it every time! :]

    Adds an Avali-themed bow to the game:

    -4 tiers
    -Includes an animated mounted wall rack version

    Unzip and place the folder "AvaliTechBow" into your Starbound/mods directory.

    In the strictest sense, this is not technically canon. The Avali never really used bows as a primitive species (their prey was all much bigger than them, and their home planet had low gravity, so they really only used spears), so they probably wouldn't make high tech ones. The rather flimsy excuse I'm going with is:
    If this doesn't suit you, then no one is forcing you to download it. I made it because I like high-tech bows (and archery in general), and was annoyed that there were both no good vanilla end-game bows, or an Avali-themed bow!

    FAQ:
    ------
    Q: Will you be adding more kinds of bows?
    A: I doubt it. It takes a considerable amount of time and effort to make an animated sprite like this.

    Q: Will you be adding subtle visual changes between the tiers, like the default Avali weapons?
    A: I really don't think so. For one, it takes even more time to do this for an animated sprite, but also the main Avali mod doesn't do this for its guns or throwing weapons, only the melee weapons.

    Q: Will you be adding more kinds of projectiles?
    A: Its possible, but probably not in the immediate future. I'm pretty busy a lot of the time now.

    Q: Why did you make 4 different kinds of weapon racks when they're all essentially the same?
    A: Because the game tends to not like it when they're more than one way to craft a single item. This is probably why the main Avali mod only lets you use tier 1 weapons for the racks.

    Q: The bows are a bit unbalanced, will you fix this?
    A: I was unsure exactly how to best balance the bows when I made them. If you have a suggestion on a more optimal power for the bow or the projectile, I'd love to hear it, but the way bows scale damage is even more unclear than with normal guns, especially after the Upbeat Giraffe update...

    Q: Can I use this mod in my mod pack?
    A: Please ask me first. I spent a while on this, so I'd appreciate it if you'd do me the kindness of asking my permission. I'm like, 99.999998% sure to say yes! :]

    Q: Did you use almost every preset color in making this description?
    A: Maybe!

    how do you get the aerogel?

      Aerogel is made on the Avali Nanolathe (sp?), which is made at the Metalworking Station I believe.

      I would suggest taking a look at the main page for the Avali race, since that's where the bench comes from, but I'm (fairly) sure that it's crafted at the metalworking station, but it's been a while since I made one (my last playthrough lasted a very long time and I only ever made on of them).

    I really want to try it, but for some reason it won't show up in-game. I installed it correctly, got all resources for the bow, and ended up finding out it was a waste of time! No crash, no error, it's just not there! I don't understand this, which really hurts me on the inside. REALLY good when I look at the modpage, can't get it in-game. 3/5.

      Updating this reply: try the new version, it seems some people were having issues with the .zip archive I uploaded being compressed more than is standard for a Windows .zip file.

    I love this mod but for some reason when i deleted it to get the newer update it said it was invalid and wont let me get the mod.

    Energy usage is rather insane at higher tiers, but reasonable considering the possible attack speed it can acquire when supplied with enough energy, assuming that the higher tier versions work like the lower tier versions, and is a basically semi-automatic bow.

      Yes it is very high. I was unsure what exactly to set it at, since as you say it is technically semi-automatic. The nature of the projectile is that because I wanted to remove the arch effect which makes it drop over distance, if I kept the speed multiplier for normal bows, an arrow fired without holding down and charging moves a tiny bit then hovers in mid-air until it gets deleted...

      If you have a suggestion for a better power requirement, let me know! It works as intended in full imperium (tier 10) armor.
