    Well, I've always found the best place to start is to unpack Starbound, and then when you need something; a weapon, armour, tile - copy the equivalent out of Starbound, and use that as a template to build the new asset from

    Bare in mind that any asset that is shared with Starbound (like player.config), needs to be changed to use the "merge__" format, in which case it is stripped down to just new entries)

    Basically, instead of providing a complete file, you create a file with the same name (ie. "player.config"), the first line of the file will be: "__merge" : []," after that you add just the *new* entries. Most race mods will have merge files in places if you have a closer look which'll give some clues
