Poem A Flawless Starbound Christmas

    A Flawless Starbound Christmas
As I gaze up intently at the bright, starry sky,
Images begin forming in my cheerful mind’s eye.
Green and red Virorbs with snow caps quite festive,
They playfully hover; not at all deceptive.
There are Poptops, of course, moving with care,
They seem jolly and friendly, but travelers beware.
I imagine vast forests with varieties beyond counting,
The possibilities are endless and my excitement is mounting!
There are hardy oak trees, and pine trees in great fettle,
Even bizarre trees cased in solid, pure metal!
Every living tree layered in brilliant, bright lights,
Bedecked in shimmering tinsel and ornaments to delight.
Relaxing by bonfires, souls warmed by the flames,
Are all the clans of Starbound; too many to name.
Sharing in laughter of adventures near and far,
Making plans, yet again, for the nearest distant star.
They exchange many gifts, all strange and rare,
As they prepare a grand feast for this splendorous affair.
There are Humans aplenty in holiday apparel,
Avoiding the Florans lest they risk mortal peril.
With ostentatious flapping, the Avians arrive,
And the Robots provide music; they know how to jive!
The ingenious Apex discuss concerns without care,
But the Hylotl look uncertain in the frosty winter air.
The celebration is in full swing, all revel and cheer,
For before they all know it; Christmas will be here!
The holiday spirit leaves a fleeting touch on them all,
And at the peak of their merriment, the snow starts to fall.
Slowly, gracefully, coming all the way down,
To provide the living earth with a crystalline crown.
As the fires burn low, the horizon grows lighter,
At the center lies an object, flashing ever brighter.
When it draws closer, there are a score of sounds,
A jingling chorus that chimes true and astounds.
Every reveler awakens, cautious and wary,
For the universe is dangerous and full of things scary.
Their concern is unfounded, their worry a waste,
For it is dear St. Nick who has traveled with all haste!
"Merry Christmas!" he exclaims with a broad, hearty smile
"I had to pack all your presents and it took me awhile!".
Santa opens his sack, and with a clap of his hands,
He summons all forward in groups and small bands.
There are guns of all sizes, swords of all kinds,
Every gift crafted as though from their own minds.
There are capes, boots, and every hat I can envision,
Even Scalpions and Motivators, all crafted with precision!
Every scrap of equipment is graciously received,
For a new year is coming and there is much to be achieved!
"Just remember," cautions Santa with a finger held high
"It is on good deeds that these great gifts rely!".
With a flick of the reins he soars swiftly away,
With all of his reindeer nimbly guiding his sleigh.
After this shared experience, all now know the reason,
For celebrating this magnificent holiday season.
With a start, I am pulled back to the present,
My visions were many, but all of them pleasant.
As I look towards the skyline, the sun starts to rise,
And I stare in amazement at a wondrous surprise.
A bedazzling great tree one-hundred spans tall,
And surrounded by Starbounders, one and all.
This, for me, embodies the idea of a perfect Starbound Christmas. I hope that everyone has a safe and joyous holiday season, and I wish the best of luck to all participants in this Holiday Contest.

I would also like to offer a huge personal thank you to those responsible for bringing this contest to us, and to all of the judges that will be taking the time to look over all of the entries. Your hard work and dedication are deeply appreciated throughout the forums.

Thank you for looking over my entry; I hope that you enjoyed it!

  5. There's a poem thread in the fanfiction section, if you ever wanted to post it there. Of course, you could always make your own thread regarding poetry.

I posted a poem in a thread, it may have been that one. The problem is that I have a hard time posting anything if I don't feel that it is done, and sometimes I put way too much time into one thing.

We'll see though! My own thread could be fun.

  7. Yeah... you get to do whatever you want with your thread. Make random crap, eye-bleed decorations, unlike the public threads. :3

My problem right now is more or less a lack of time. I work two jobs 6 days a week so finding time to sleep can be tough, let alone anything else

I'm not taking any classes on top of that right now though, so I have a little extra time. I will take your suggestion under advisement!

    You clever guy, you. :iswydt:

There is never a poem that I don't enjoy,
Every new one is like a fabulous toy!
Your work is not wasted, you have already won,
For the goal of any poem is to have great fun.
I wish every Starbounder would take some time,
To create a grand poem or make lines that rhyme.

  14. This is true. Look at my thread. It's a mix of a blog, short stories, and general random stuff. Or, to put it more elegantly, a clusterfuck.

That said, the poem looks good! I write poems, sometimes, but I'm super lazy with them, so I decided not to enter the contest with one.

i have very little to say:p
    it's amazing and i hope you win:iswydt:

  17. Eh, probably not. I just entered it to test my writing skills, so I really don't feel the need to enter anywhere else. So, in the spirit of the season, my gift to all the poem writers is less competition. :)

When I typed that before, I didn't realize that you had already posted one. I have dial-up right now so searching takes a bit more time!

    Sorry.

Everyone hopes they will win, but unfortunately only one can!

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

    You should make one too!
