I'm curious to hear whether anyone uses the rain totems regularly. The only time I've used one was to get the mermaid pendant. What are you folks using them for?
Never used rain totems and I don't plan to. I used to put the obelisk's on my farm. Not to use them just for the look of them.
Pretty much the same for me. The only other reason I've used it is to be able to catch a certain fish that requires it to be raining and it's getting close to the end of the season and time is running out.
Honestly, I've never used any of the totems. When I get the pack of warp totems for the beach out of the fishing bundle I just sell them. >u<
I only used one rain totem on my first save to get the mermaid pendant like you. Crafting one regularly seems pointless to me. If you can craft it, you should be able to plant sprinklers. So what's the point in summoning rain? Except for triggering certain heart events maybe.
Haven't found them worth it. I think I've used them twice: once for a fish I needed when the season was about to end, and once when I messed up timing a watering can upgrade. I think I'd only use them now if I really didn't want to wait for a fish season to roll back around. I don't use the warp totems, either, but I do use the obelisks quite a bit (mainly the beach one because I've crab potted the docks).
i haven't used the rain totem at all.... but using it to get the rain pendant sounds like a good idea lmao. i'll have to think about it if i have it by then
I like to collect rain totems and display them somewhere (or sometimes use it). Gives me an incentive to harvest pine tar.
I've seldom crafted them-- totems are way too expensive in terms of resources versus usefulness. I really should, though, for RP purposes, since I'm usually playing a witchy sort of a persona and crafting totems would fit well into kitchen witchery. I suppose it's something to do for special occasions. By the time I've got the resources and skill to craft a rain totem, I've already got sprinklers and a store of batteries, so, never saw much point. I can see how it would be useful to summon up the Ghost of the Old Mariner for the pendant, though!
Well, so far it sounds like no one's using them extensively. Triggering fishing conditions seems reasonable. Maybe I'm supposed to be catching tons of eels for Luck buffs at the Casino? It's weird that there's this unlock near the end of a skill tree - right there in plain sight - yet it's so expensive and obscure that no one plays with it. CA, you trickster, what are you up to? Funny that I'm not hearing much love for the other totems. I don't use the beach totems very much, but I use the mountain ones all the time. The Secret Woods are soooo far away from the mines/mine carts.
I just walk everywhere, or take minecarts if available. But I'm never particularly rushed because of Timespeed. On my last game, I bought the obelisks but only for decoration, since I use a mod that turns them into pretty trees. I used them once or twice just because they were there, but warping anywhere is never really a necessity for me.
I've used it to catch an eel. I wanted to save up on a bunch of Spicy Eel for my skull cave runs. I get a bunch from the flying serpents, but I like to have a nice reserve. I'm now addicted to stacking coffee with Pepper Poppers and Spicy Eel to get through the day. Add a horse to that and you are FLYYYYYIIIIIIINNNNGGGG!!!
Food buffs stack? I thought, if you ate one food, it would replace whatever the buff was from the one you ate before. I've noticed food buffs stack on themselves (only the time remaining part), but I didn't think buffs from different foods would run concurrently.
Sorry, I feel like I left some details out of my last post. Yes, Coffee stacks with other speed boosting foods. I mainly stick to Pepper Poppers and Spicy Eel. If you eat a food that does not give you a stat boost, it won't wipe your speed boosts. Example, for a day of cave spelunking, I will wake up and eat a pepper popper and drink a coffee. I will drink coffee as it wears off. When I enter the cave, I eat a spicy eel, now I'm running on +2 speed, +1 luck. I'll only need to eat spicy eel one more time before the day is done. I use the rain totem and go to the beach at 6pm. My fishing skill is high and I use the lures and bait to catch fish quicker. Eels are easy to catch, and I usually know when I'm encountering one because they have consistent movement in the fishing mini game. They rise straight up at a quick (but not lighting fast) pace and stop at the 75% line. It will stay there for a little bit and then dip to the 50% level in the mini game. By that point I've already caught it. I'll get 7-10 eel a day in the spring or fall.
I've never actually used any of the totems. I'd rather keep my hardwood for other purposes than a quick 1 time fast travel.
That sounds like a regular day for me in real life (except the pepper popper, although that sounds good!)! haha
