Starbound 1.0 not starting up

Discussion in 'Starbound Support' started by darkwish98, Jul 22, 2016.

I was able to launch the game using the executables in the win64 and win32 folders (Located in: Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound ). Though I can't play with steam friends and I don't see a version number (Probably because it's 1.0?). Still waiting on a solution, I need to play with friendos

I found a fix. If you go to steam and right klick on Starbound, settings, start options and remove the line "-treads 4" also i unchecked the VR box and now i can start it. maybe it works for you too.

This issue is unrelated to the topic itself. If you're using unpacked assets move the folder to another location. If that's not the case i suggest opening an own topic for your issue.

One problem - the game does not work. The rest is details.

Ok so i posted a thread earlier about not being able to launch starbound. (it quickly got pushed down from the mountain of new threads being created about the same issue) i decided it would be best to post in the more popular of the "starbound not launching" threads.
    Process:
1st attempt- tried to reinstall the game (didnt work)
2nd attempt- tried uninstalling MS visual C++ stuff (32 and 64) restarted my computer after. after restarting my computer i installed both the Visual C++ (didnt work)
3rd attempt- uninstalled starbound and DELETED the starbound folder and everything that was left in it AFTER steam "uninstalled" starbound. reinstalled starbound...
    (WORKED!.. BUT...)

Got starbound to work in 32 bit mode ONLY. 64 bit gives me some error which i was getting during nightly even though i run on an 64 bit computer...

Hopefully a Dev will post a guide on how to get the 64 bit version running for those who cant (will post error code down at the bottom)

Also does anyone know of a way to get steam to launch the 32 bit version so friends can join games via steam? Just curious. might have to just run a server like old times..

Mine had "; ./starbound" and removing that worked. Not sure if that broke something, but it's working now.

By the way, where the assets folder?

I don't have any startoptions by default in it. Maybe that's the reason why starbound is crashing for most ppl  Also it seems to point out that the steam multiplayer option causes a bit of trouble for some ppl.

Assets folder: [path to your steam]\SteamApps\common\Starbound\assets

So I installed it new, made sure it was completetly wiped away, made sure i had the dll file it was showing an error for.
I have not the newest of win 7, tried reinstalling c++ and it could not finish the installation. If I rriy to run the exe, both in 32bit and x64,
it just says could not find the procedureentrypoint for the dll. I tried copying the dll into my system 32, tryed registering it but just showed the same entrypoint error.
    ....
if this helps pinpointing the prob. Also, every software I have installed works fine, i can play assetto corsa, resident evil rev 2, Witcher 3 and even both modded skyrim and FO4.
So there should only be a problem with the vc redist i think

It was an issue they had patches ago as well and for most with the newest update of win 7 it works yes but for others who don't you cant even instal the visual c++ 2015 so if like last time they can't patch it out so you don't need it you are kinda... well....

I think someone just put an unfinished build. Previous version from Humble was larger.

How about I try an old version of vc?

Edit: Cant roll back and cant find an old version...

Chucklefish is already on it with the download from humble. So it is not on your end.

    According to the VC error:
    I found this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226
Maybe it can help. As for windows 10 i can confirm all is working by default.

Perhaps the problem in version 64. I can not check the version 32.

So it just says not compatible with my comp...
I go now and update to sp1, maybe that helps, and if that does not work I try installing Linux. Hate MS....

Downloaded x64 and x86 packages from your link, but when I install them an error pop up and says: "unable to apply the update on your computer".
Does it means that as a Win7 user I'll be not able to play Starbound?! Please fix it..

You're using unpacked assets. Move the folder to another location or rename it to something else starting with a _ so it won't get loaded.
