    The Story
We all remember where we were when that day came, the day the world ended; of course it didn’t start there. It started in a small town in South Carolina, someone started acting strange. It wasn’t violent or drastic, they were just acting…off. But it soon started to spread; others began acting off, and eventually someone noticed.
Soon it was discovered that it was an invasion, a race of beings, later we found out they were called warlocks, were trying to quietly destroy us, they wanted to take us over, and we don’t even know what they did with the people they replaced.
The united states government wouldn’t have any of that, they quarantined the town and released an experimental bio-weapon in an attempt to wipe them out. Initially it seemed to be successful, but the bio-weapon proved to be a mistake when a horde of undead, flesh eating warlock zombies came crashing through the quarantine zone.
Word quickly reached the U.N. about the quickly degrading situation in the states. They quickly authorized the use of nuclear weaponry to try to dissolve the situation. Little did they know that they hit, almost directly, an ancient magic seal that had kept the armies of hell from rising up for millennia. The sheer power of the bomb broke that seal.
The situation quickly degraded from there, before we knew it, the demons burst from hell and we never stood a chance. Our governments were toppled, our armies destroyed, demons and zombies roamed the streets, the warlock mothership was shot out of the sky and despite their best efforts, they were stuck here with us. It soon became clear that we would not survive, soon we will be wiped out and there is nothing we can do, we are powerless.

That was an excerpt from a book written two years ago when the chaos had just broken out. Now the situation was different, demons roamed the streets looking for any survivors, and zombies ran rampant looking for flesh to eat, but despite all this, there were survivors. At least that’s what you tell yourself, I mean if you survived surely others did right?
You’ve been hiding in this little spot for two years now, you had stalked up plenty of supplies in hopes that humanity would overtake the threat, but this clearly never happened. Your supplies are running low now and you are left with only a few basic things and a sense of dread, if you are to survive you’ll need to leave your humble safe spot and venture out into the world. You gather your thoughts, you’ve got quite an adventure ahead of you.

Welcome to the It Sucks To Be Earth Role Play! I'm sure that this sounds really ridiculous and maybe a little bit intimidating. But don't worry! I'm here to guide you through this process and try to make it as understandable and streamlined as I can. So let me start by explaining that this is the Out of Character thread, that means you go here to talk to other players and GMs outside of the game, this is also where you apply for the game. Let's talk about a few of that bits of this game.

    Races
There are several playable races in this role play, all of them different in their own way. I Encourage you to take your time and really decide what race you want to be. For the purposes of space, the races are all contained in the following spoiler:

The most well rounded of all the beings, they are adaptable and lovable, but equally hate-able. Humans were the denizens of earth before all the bad stuff happened, and they been surviving in little holes for two years now.

This is a “sub race” of human, not that they are any weaker, Cultist are a group of people who were guarding the ancient seal, their secret has been passed down from generation to generation. They have the same well roundedness of a regular human, but have the ability to use magicka. For now I’m only allowing a max of 4 Cultist characters at one, this will likely change later

Congratulations, you’re a zombie. This means either that you got bit, or that you were wandering the streets and somehow, for some reason, regained your mind. Zombies can be human or warlock, none are immune to the effects of the zombie virus. Zombies are fast and persistent, but ultimately much easier to kill then other races.Note: Don’t go thinking cultists are immune to the zombie virus, they’re not.

Congratulations, you’re a zombie, sort of. Technically elemental zombies are only partly zombie, elemental zombies are infused with an element and are able to use that element to lesser degree than people who can use spells. They are able to manifest their element to their physical being, so for example, a flame element zombie would be able to melt metal objects by touching them but would be unable to cast any flame spells. Elemental zombies are created by demons, they are partially healed, just enough to grant them back their ability to use magick. Some elemental zombies have broken free of their servanthood and some have been abandoned.

Mutants are folks who’ve spent a little too long hanging out in the radiation heavy places on the planet. Due to this, something in their anatomy has changed, causing them to gain a power. Mutants are not all uniform, some have become deformed and terrifying while others have become freakishly beautiful and attractive, most lie comfortably in-between those two extremes. Players playing mutants can give their character a special power of their choice as long as it is within reason. Humans and Warlocks can be mutants.Important note: Mutants cannot use magick, also cultists are not immune to mutation.

Beings from another world, these guys invaded earth in order to take it for their own. They are technologically advanced and have the ability to change their form. Some still hold a grudge against humanity and would rather take them out while others would rather work with them to survive.

These guys come in all shapes and sizes, they can be anything from large flaming beasts with temper issues to scrawny looking humanoids with angst issues. However they look, they are physically stronger than most humans, and have the ability to use demon magic, which of course is different from regular magic, They are also immune to zombification and mutation.

This is a very specific sub-race of demon, All Succubi are female. Succubi use their feminine charms to slowly kill off an area’s population of men. They have extra charisma and persuasion, and they are more effective against male characters, and of course they can use demon magick. They also have the ability to enthrall one weak minded male character; thralls will follow them around and defend them, but still retain most of their personality and awareness.

Now, as you may have noticed, there are a couple of lovely forces in this game known as "Magic" and "Mutation" Now those might sound a little scary or complicated, well don't worry, I've written out for you in a simple manner, how these forces work.

In this world, magick is a wonderful and strange thing. Magick can be used through small rituals called spells. Spells range from fairly basic and weak to complicated and powerful. In order to use a spell, one must know a spell, and one can learn spells from people who know them or from old books that you might find lying around.
So basically this is how spells work in this game, each spell has a required amount of magick energy to cast which will be noted in the spell description. Your magick stat (Which can be trained, fret not!) will be rolled against the amount required, of you win the roll you will successfully cast the spell, if you lose the spell will fail. Cultists and demons may start with a basic spell, below is a list of basic spells.

Something you should probably know about Magick is the elements which are available to you. Here is a list:

    Light
    Darkness
    Water
    Energy
    Ice
    Fire
    Earth
    Wind
Some mystery elements may also exist but will need to be discovered.

Lastly, Mages have a leveling system that allows them to get stronger with Magick as they progress. Here is the Magick leveling system.

Lvl 1: Choose two starting elements (All Magick users start with this one)
Lvl 2: You become more comfortable in your elements
    Lvl 3: Blank
    Lvl 4: Blank
Lvl 5: Unlock Two more elements

Mutation is the force that drives mutants, it allows them to get more powerful as they mutate more. Mutants run on a leveling system very similar to mages. The leveling system looks like this:
Lvl 1: Basic mutation (All Mutants have this one)
Lvl 2: You become more comfortable in your mutation, making it more effective
    Lvl 3: Blank

    Lvl 19: Blank
Lvl 20: You become more comfortable in your fourth ability.

Now let's talk about crafting, yes there is a crafting system, no it's not complicated. It looks like this, there are 8 basic materials you can acquire:
    Metal Scrap
    Wooden materials
    Electronic scrap
    Minerals
    Magical Materials
    Demonic Materials
    Plant Materials
    Cloth Materials
With these you can create anything else, which is open for you to decide. You can build whatever you want, within reason, be it weapons, ammo, clothes, or barricades, just to name a few. Or, you can always find someone else who can make things for you if you don't feel like building things yourself. They'll probably want payment though.
Now let's talk about stats and traits, these are what you'll use to help build your character:

    Stats

Each of these will start with a base of 10, and you will have 120 points to spend after that. The maximum number allowed for any stat is 30. Certain races have certain statistical bonuses, these cannot be taken away. Within the RP you may be able to raise a couple of your stats to 60 through training and quests. The only exception is magick, which will have a base of 0 for humans and warlocks until it is learned. It will always remain 0 for zombies and mutants. The Magick stat is equivalent to your magick level, that means, if you pick a race with the ability to use magick, it will start at 1. Unless you pick the second wind perk, then it will start at 2. Subtracting from the base stats to rearrange stat points is not allowed

Physical Strength: - How physically strong you are, effects things like lifting boulders and piles of concrete.
Knowledge: - How smart you are
Speed: - How fast you can run and how high you can jump
People Skills: - How good you are with people
Survival Skills: - How good you are at making things with stuff
Physical Resistance: - How physically resilient you are to things like punches and super cold climates.
Mental Resistance: - How mentally resilient you are
Fortune: - How Lucky you are
Magick/Mutation: - How good you are with magick / How Mutated you are
Weapons Proficiency: (You may choose one as main and gain a bonus)
Melee: - Bats, bars, maces, swords, basically anything you swing at someone.
Ranged: - Guns, shruikens, throwing spears, basically anything you throw or shoot or launch at someone.
Magick Weapons: - Staves, Wands, anything you can cast magick with
Stealth: - How sneaky you are.

    Traits

Traits are a way to help define your character; Basically they help us get to know your character a little bit better. These are no more than character quirks that don't add or take away from your abilities or stats. There are three kinds of traits, Positive or good things about your character, Neautral or things about your character that aren't bad or good, and Negative or bad things about your character. You can have up to 15 of these and should make an effort to balance them out so you don't have too many good traits or too many bad traits.
Ex. Clumsy- Greg is clumsy and often finds himself tripping or dropping something.
Ex. Puns- Greg likes to make puns, they don’t help anyone, but they don’t hurt anyone either.
Ex. Kind Hearted- Greg is a nice guy, and gets along well with others.

    Perks
Perks are a lot like traits, but unlike traits, they DO add things to your stats and DON'T add things to your character. Unlike Traits, you may only choose TWO perks to start with and might end up getting more as you play. Here are the list of perks to choose from at the beginning.

Demolition: This character knows how to handle weapons of the more explosive variety
Pack Rat: This character has slightly more in their starting Inventory
Second Wind: This character starts with a mutation / Magick level of 2, but will take twice as long to reach level 3 (Note: CANNOT BE COMBINED WITH QUICK LEARNER)
Expert Marksman: This character gains a bonus to ranged weapons
Slicing and Bonking: This character gains a bonus to Melee weapons
Huge!: This character gains a bonus in physical strength but loses points in speed.
Big brained: This character gains a bonus in Learnedness, but loses points in physical strength
Social Butterfly: This character gains a bonus in people skills, but loses points in stealth
Ninja: This character gains points in stealth but loses points in People skills
Track team: This character gains a bonus in speed, but loses points in Physical resistance

Enduring: This character gains a bonus in physical resistance but loses points in mental resistance
Strong will: This character gains a bonus in mental resistance but loses points in physical resistance
Oh lucky day!: This character gains a bonus in fortune, but loses points in survival skills
Perky: This character gains an extra perk, but starts with no food.
Mechanic: Starts with a worn-out vehicle and the ability to create and fix vehicles. Small bonus to strength, but small reduction to physical resistance due to working in smoke-filled environments. (As a trade-off, vehicles will not be able to access everywhere that you could on foot)
Man's Best Friend: Start out with a loyal companion, but halves starting food and doubles food consumption as long as you have your companion.
Living Library:You can remember all the knowledge you come across! Increased Increased knowledge(Learnedness) but decreased Physicals.
Quick Learner: Learn Magick/Gain mutation twice as fast for a level. (Note: CANNOT BE COMBINED WITH SECOND WIND)
Under-powered: Allows you to drop three of your stats to 5

    Backstory
Backstory is a completely option piece of the application, if you'd rather leave it a surprise for other player or just can't come up with one, you don't have to put one there.

    Starting Inventory
Starting inventory is a list of things your character starts with, each race has their own starting inventory. These inventories cannot be changed unless specified by a GM. That means you can argue to have an item included/excluded, but unless a GM allows it, you get nothing besides what's on the list. The only exception is if you choose the packrat perk which allows you to have a few more basic items in your inventory to start with, but they still must be cleared by a GM.

Now that you've seen those, there one more thing to talk about before I show you the applications, the rules.

    RULES

    · Follow all the forum rules please, I’d prefer not to have the admins on my butt, they are some fine ladies and gentleman and I’d prefer to keep it that way.
    · No godmodding or metagaming, If you’re not sure your post will violate that, please check with a GM before posting.
    · I don’t care if you swear, just don’t do it excessively, try to keep it under control.
    · Respect your fellow players, they are real people with real feelings that can really be hurt. If you have a problem with someone, please contact a GM
    · Please only use first person in dialogue. I don’t want you to confuse your character with yourself.
    · In the case that you need to say something OOC while in the IC thread, please use double parenthesis (())
    · If you don’t post for a week, and we don’t know what happened to you, your character will become an NPC, this way we aren’t holding up the story for everyone else. If you need to disappear for a while, let us know so we can handle it. Also you WILL be able to take control of your character when/if you return
    · The GM’s are here for a reason, if they post something, then that goes. If you have a problem with what they posted, bring it up in the OOC thread, or ask me directly.
    · You are responsible for taking care of your characters; you have to keep track of their gear and the people they know. I suggest that you keep notes on this somewhere that you have easy access to, Like evernote. Keep in mind that a GM needs to able to see your character’s stats for when actions occur, I recommend keeping a link to all that in your signature, or if you don’t want to make a mess of your signature, you can ask me and I’ll put a link in the OP. Make sure to keep the sheet up to date.

    APPLICATIONS

This is what we need to know about your character if you wish to join. It’s easy to do, I suggest you take your time and think about what you really want out of a character.
    • Name – What’s their name? You can give them a last name if you’re feeling creative, although it isn’t necessary.
    • Race – What race are they? Keep in mind that certain races have certain bonuses.
    • Gender-What Gender are they?
    • Age – How old are they?
    • Stats - Your character's basic stats. Each stat starts with a base of 10, After that you will have a maximum of 120 points to put among those stats, with a maximum of 60 in each stat.
    • Appearance – What do they look like? I’d prefer a picture, but you don’t have to. As long as you can give a detailed description, then we’ll call it good.
    • Traits - Traits are used to define your character in ways that the 15 basic stats cannot. This can be personality, odd quirks, special things about your character, etc. Traits should be balanced.
    • Perks - Perks are used to give your character some advantages so they're not completely helpless out in the wasteland.

    Keeping Track of Your Character
After we accept you, you’ll need to keep track of your character somewhere
We are not responsible for keeping track of your character’s stuff, as well as keeping track of your character you will need to keep track of their gear, spells known, and people your character has met
More in detail, this is what I want you to keep track of:
    · Gear: The stuff your character is carrying that counts food and guns and whatever.
    · Spells: Whenever you learn a new spell, I want you to keep track of it, which makes it easier to confirm that you can indeed cast a fireball.
    · Recipes: Anytime your character learns to make something, like bacon or a spear or whatever, you need to keep track of it.
    · Stats and Traits: These should also be in with the rest of your information
    · People you know: Other characters and NPCs and talking animals that your character has met.
    · Traits: Because traits can be added during the course of the game, you’ll want to keep track of these.
I Recommend keeping a link to someplace containing all this in your signature, or if you prefer not to have a mess in your signature, ask me and I’ll put a link in the Original Post. Make sure you keep all this information up to date, or a GM might roll with old information.

    Lucifer

A long while back, way back, back when humans were new, there was a bit of a falling out between brothers. There were three brothers involved, Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer. Gabriel and Michael believed that a higher power had created them and they called that higher power ‘God’. Lucifer didn’t believe in God, He believed in himself. At first this wasn’t really a problem, the angels lived together in relative peace and things were pretty good.

Enter Humans. A race of intelligent mammals that popped up on this planet known as earth. Michael got it in his head that these were special beings created by God and that the angels, as a species, needed to protect them. Lucifer didn’t really mind this much at the time, however his beliefs had started to lead him down a path.

Angels, at their core, live off of light magicks, they cast holy spells and whatnot. Lucifer had decided, along with a contingent of other angels, that perhaps light magick wasn’t the only way to go and so began to play with dark magicks. This is where the dispute began, Lucifer changed his Magick core to run off of dark magick in order to prove to his brothers that there were other ways to live. When Michael found out about this, he created a realm known as hell and cast Lucifer and his followers forever into it.

Lucifer grew to hate his brothers and so decided that the best way to get back at them was to destroy their precious humans. And so the far between humans, angels, and demons began. The history of that war is long and for another time, we’re here to talk about Lucifer. Around the end of the war is when Lucifer became more than a being.

You see, at some point during the war the original Lucifer was killed at the hands of a man whose entire family was slaughtered by demons. This man absorbed Lucifer’s dark core and became Lucifer II. At this point, Lucifer became a title, whosoever was Lucifer was king of the demons.

Lucifer II continued the bloody war, having lost the care for everything, until he too was killed, this time by a demon, who became Lucifer III. Lucifer III wished to continue the war as well, with renewed vigor and less loss of demon lives, however part of the way through his reign the humans got wise and found a way to seal the demons into hell using Magicks.

Lucifer III had a son whom he raised to hate humans, that son did not get a chance to ascend to the throne before another demon defeated him and cast him to the outskirts of hell. That demon became Lucifer IV, who ushered in an era of peace for demon kind. At this point, demons became less destructive and more like people. The era of peace continued under the reign of Lucifer V, who was the daughter of Lucifer IV.

Her reign was cut short by a hidden blade, one that was held by the most evil demon to ever be produced. He was the son of Lucifer III, he had spent many years brooding away on the outskirts of hell. In that time he had gone from being angry to being clever. Lucifer VI is less of a bloodthirsty warmonger and more of a shrewd businessman. He is also the current Lucifer.

He discovered that, while demons could not cross the magick barrier into the realm of the humans, they could influence them, just a bit. He’s been using this to slowly have humans destroy themselves over a long period of time. Of course, now that the barrier is broken, he appears to have taken a more direct approach.

    Demons

What is a demon you ask? Well that’s a bit of a complicated question. Most assume that they are the seed of evil, that they represent everything bad, they blame all of humanity’s problems on them. This is simply a case of humans being naïve as usual. Demons, at least at the start of them, were simply angels who used changed their magick core to dark magick instead of holy magick. It was the long time exposed to dark magicks that turned them into the horned monstrosities humanity is used to seeing.

In reality, Demons, as they are known, are not in fact evil by nature. Demons have a society much like humans, although it is different as they have a different culture. It’s more of a monarchy, being led by Lucifer. But for the most part they act like we do, they live in family units, they trade with each other for things they want, stuff like that.

The hatred of humanity comes from the long, bloody war. It makes me wonder, if Lucifer hadn’t been in charge would demons care a bit more? Anyway, things get a little bit more complicated since there have been hundreds of years and generation and whatnot. As I said before, the original Demons were angels. However, some demons were humans who also had their magick cores changed to dark magick.

In both cases, demons bred to create a third type of demon, one naturally born with a dark magick core. Another thing to know about demons is that they live, on average, much longer lives than humans. Some demons have been alive for thousands of year. We don’t know why this is as the only notes we have on them are from archaic times before we really had a good understanding about the way these things work.

The only other noteworthy thing is that most of the third generation demons don’t truly believe that humanity is evil either, they usually would rather live in peace and not be bothered. It’s the older demons who still have a burning hatred and would start another war if they were asked.

    Warlocks

What are Warlocks, well honestly we don’t actually know that much about them. Or at least we know significantly less about them then other beings. Warlocks are some kind of alien from another world, that’s the root of it. We don’t know anything about their culture, but I imagine it might be a bit like ours. Why do I say that? Well they arrived at the conclusion that it would be a good thing to take over earth because their home planet ran out of living space. I imagine it was more a move of desperation than pure evil intent.

What else do we know about them? Well we know that at their base, they look very similar to humans but their skin is an almost pure white shade. Their hair is jet black as well. We also know they can shapeshift, and when they do, we really have no way to tell them apart from us, well other than the fact that their blood is blue.

Abilities? Well apart from shapeshifting they seem to be rather good at climbing walls. If you’re ever out in the wilds and hear a mysterious skittering noise, well, it’s probably a warlock. The only other thing I can say for sure is that I’ve met several, all of whom seem to be more scared of the apocalypse than we are. Also despite the fact that us and them went to war, they don’t seem to particularly hate us in general. If ever you meet a warlock out there, it may do you good to attempt to befriend them rather than attack them.

    ~Loremaster Scout

    Val

Ah yes, well Val is a mystery to all of us. He-actually I’m not even sure it’s a he for certain, though they don’t seem to mind being called he, or she for that matter. See this is exactly why they’re so mysterious! Anyway, they just sorta showed up one day. I don’t know what sort of accomplishments or qualifications they have, but for some reason they were put in charge of real estate in the blue district.

I can’t explain why they wear those robes either; they look like something out of a fantasy video game. It also doesn’t help us that they completely obscure the face and also cover up any skin. Also I could swear that when they speak, they speak with like 3 voices at once, and I ain’t the only one who thinks so!

Some people are a little afraid that Val is a demon, but they always assure us that they’re not. On top of that they never set of the demon detectors when we put em’ through there. The other mysterious thing is that one will always find themselves clam around Val. Like, how does it do that? It’s like Val’s voice just calms the soul.

Anyway, Val seems friendly, and I’m not too concerned that they’ll ever do something malicious, but it’s still better to keep an eye on mysterious beings like that.

What I generally do with neutral traits is to make them some personality or physical quirk, like being fluffy. Although I am curious if you have a mutant who mutated to be fluffy and fox-like. It probably wouldn't be off-limits.

Appearance: he is always in an old HAZMAT suit. the suit is sealed, and their are no seams. if any hole is pierced, he is a red, goopy mass, with black freckles around where his "eyes" would be
    Traits:
*Special Power –Gelatinous- he has become a cell colony organism, similar to a slime mold. he is contained within and given shape by his HAZMAT suit, and "Eats" by engulfing whatever food he can get his "hands" on. he becomes smaller as his cells are destroyed or as they starve, instead of just dying. his intelligence is also reduced as this happens
*Mutation – You have been mutated and have become faster and stronger than your average person
memory gel- due to being gelatinous, stabs, bashes, bullets, stabs, and pretty much any physical damage wont affect him. he
can also fit into very tiny places, restricted only by his suit
cellular control- can combat infections by shedding infected cells easily, making him resistant to zombification and other diseases. he can also "digest" enemies by smearing himself on them. much more effective if he gets in an open wound, where the cells can breed. this is about his only way of attacking

slimy- he is a very slimy and sticky, really gross to be around
gel weakness-reduced strength, acrobatics, speed, crafting, ranged, melee and charisma . he cannot operate steadily at all, not even able to use a pencil to communicate. he will quickly lose mass if he is not in his suit, and he will disperse when submerged in water, a very quick death if he has no suit
cell weakness- much more susceptible to poisons and takes damage from antibiotics, however, they do not spread due to the absence of a bloodstream, instead they burn him like acid. he needs constant food and sustenance to survive, and cells will starve and die quickly.
sensory cripple- he can only see in black and white, due to the rudimentary vision detecting of cellular eyespots. he cannot talk either, due to having no trachea

    Starting Inventory:

one fully covering hazmat suit, with a sealed on gas mask.
    rubber gloves

1 US army standard MRE rations
    2 Wooden scrap

    Cloth Materials x 5

Alright, the traits check out now, but by my calculations 13+8+13+3+15+8+3-6(For racial buffs) means you're sitting at about 57 points, so you have 3 more you can spend if you want. Unless you're claiming to have gotten rid of those racial boosts, in which case you're sitting at 63 which means you have three too many.

    Traits:
    • Puppet Master - Demons have the ability to use the zombies wandering the streets as puppets, this way they have minions to do their bidding.
    • Huge Claws - Kefr always has a blade handy. Can’t use smartphones.
    • Flame Retardant - Kefr is resistant to burns and does not flinch when burnt.
    • Can I Eat It? I’m Gonna Eat It! - He has an odd sense of taste and will gladly eat any food, especially burnt food.
    • Pyromania - Whenever fire or explosives are nearby, Kefr’s eyes light up. He has to resist temptation or he will lose control, obsessively setting fire to or exploding something.
    • Short Stuff - Kefr is vertically challenged, which makes him appear weak when compared to other Demons.
    • Acrophobia - Kefr has a fear of heights. This may make him panic in certain situations.

also here's a document version with slightly more info
The idea is that when fire or explosives get involved, the GMs can decide to take control and force him to act. Or he'll do it anyway, because what is inhibition?
