I keep hearing about that one, but didn't find much explanation of what it's like. How does it compare to Eve Online?

I was having a lovely sleep, then Dad comes downstairs, takes an ibuprofen, turns on Doctor \Vho, and leaves. \Voke me up, too.

Not so much like EVE. Best quick comparison I can think of is that it's planning to be more like freelancer but bigger in scope and created with modern technologies in mind. It's going to have a fully fleshed out campaign/story mode (squadron 42) and for multiplayer what's called the "persistent universe" - more like EVE; a singular, big sandbox environment affected by all players. Actually encountering players and stuff is broken into a more instanced method (There is a news post which goes into detail about this. I can explain more later)

Planned release is in "module" stages, currently released module is hangar (walk around and look at your ships) and arena commander (singleplayer and multiplayer dogfighting - in universe it's a "simulator" basically). Only a small handful of ships have been made flyable for arena commander as of now.

I believe the next module coming up is the FPS module (there will be FPS combat for boarding actions such as onto an enemy capital ship or station), followed by planetside module (walk around planetside etc.), Squadron 42 campaign, PU alpha, PU Beta then initial release followed by updates.
