When you say "another server", do you mean you are having this issue in single-player or multiplayer or both?

If you used the "Delete Local Content" option through Steam, then it didn't get rid of those files/folders. If you're still having an issue after you delete those, post a fresh copy of your starbound.log.

What means "fresh"? After full re-install?

A "fresh" copy of your log, meaning after your try those steps and still have issues, post the most recent log file here (so it can be looked over instead of your older log, the new one may have new/different info).

Same issue here, however happens only underground.

Posting here because the issue remains in nightly, but I installed Starbound initially with the recent Unstable build, and the issue was present there first.

The behavior of my problem is pretty specific. Once below a certain depth from the surface, the game starts to "lose connection" to itself. Only below a certain depth, never on or near the surface. Tried this with singleplayer, and with running the server application separately while using the multiplayer option to connect to it. The symptoms are the same as described above - the world stops updating, the current loaded chunk has empty space beyond its borders. The hangup isn't permanent, and any changes you attempt to do - mining, placing items, interacting, hitting enemies - all accumulate and happen all at once when the universe updates.

Additionally, going deeper towards the planet core, at a certain exact depth, the game "hangs" - not just the world, but the whole application stops responding. On my last attempt to reach the core, this happened on two individual distinct levels - both times in midair as I was dropping down into a shaft I dug. When trying this with the "server+multiplayer" option, the server log spammed attempts to kick my character for inactivity during the hangup, and the client application actually CTD'd. When running singleplayer, the client eventually recovered, and I did manage to reach the core, but the intermittent "world hangups" were still present.

This is not dependent on any particular feature on the planet, or any particular dungeon. I first encountered the problem when going down through a "mining camp" dungeon on near the opposite side of the planet. My subsequent attempt was a direct "hellevator" straight down from the starting point, and the problem persisted even when there were no dungeons or even enemies around.

Suspected culprits such as antivirus were proven innocent, all relevant applications and the entire Starbound folder were added to exceptions, and all applications were set to run as Administrator, with no change in behavior.

Will try the "nuke universe, try again" approach now to see if problem is specific to the starter planet I have or the game in general.

System is a Win8 tablet (non-RT) with Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, Intel HD4000 GPU, hard drive is an SSD. Running standard and openGL variants results in different performance, but the bug in question remains the same.

    edit: Experiment update:

Removing the whole "storage_unstable" folder and starting anew made me experience a more tame version of the chunk loading bug, probably the one reported here initially. Smaller chunks of the world take their time to load, resulting in the player catching up to them. My experiment started with the hellevator this time, and despite some long falls in places I only very briefly noticed an instance of a chunk failing to load in time. However when walking horizontally along the surface afterwards, the failing chunks became readily apparent.

Going to remove the whole folder again and try the same, but in opposite order - circumnavigation first, then hellevator.

    edit: Experiment update #2

Switching the order, going first horizontally then vertically, didn't change the behavior. The problem consistently happens more frequently when going sideways than when going up or down. On the off chance this was surface-related, tested this in the most ridiculous circumstances, by turning on admin mode and skipping along the lava ocean - even at that rather slow pace, I caught up to the chunk loading rather quickly. The only time I managed to catch up to chunk loading vertically was when I dual-wielded batches of bombs and blasted my way down an unexplored area - even at that breakneck pace, I only caught up to the chunks once, as opposed to pretty much every other screenlength when walking along the ground.

So far it seems that the chunk loading mechanism was changed between the unstable and the nightly, and once the world is generated it remains that way, so with my first world generated in unstable, the problem persisted in the nightly.

Well, at least it's mostly preferable. Frequent, but short pauses on first exploration of an area are preferable to constant, intermittent hangups when looking around underground.

Same problem here. Vanilla or Unstable or Nightly. Mods or no mods. Same problem.
Starbound is pretty much unplayable. It is unacceptable that a single player game "loses Connection" with itself.
This did not happen 6 months ago Before the more recent stable updates. Never.
