Well, since even the off-topic isn't really going anywhere...

...I was thinking about dueling with aerogel blades (not likely to happen in real-space, I know, but maybe there's some fencing buffs on the Nexus or something), and some things occurred to me.

1] You wouldn't be able to parry a strike with your whole blade, since it can shatter so easily. You'd need to make use of the shatter-proof stabilizer rail. Moving the parrying location closer to the hilt also lets you take advantage of the closer center of mass provided by the light blade and relatively heavier printer mechanisms.

2] Some form of sword-breaker would be a sensible off-hand weapon, given the relative ease with which the blade can shatter. Without a sword breaker, you could still probably try to strike the flat of the opponent's blade with a thick glove or something. This wouldn't be a crippling disadvantage to your opponent, however, thought it might give you a few precious moments during which he cannot counterattack. Because the stabilizer isn't aerogel, the opponent will still be able to parry while his blade reforges.

3] With the oscillators, aerogel weapons would hum faintly. Like lightsabers, but cooler.​
