Poop monsters are quite common actually. I found a dog and kennel.

 

I was under the impression that capture pods didn't work with unique monsters.

It's in the change log for angry koala.
- You can now craft racial flags, to show you’ve been to a planet
- NPCs will now switch to melee weapons up close
- More random encounters
- Pos can now be captured

 

Damn it- I have yet to trodden into any extensive sewers and encounter these crappy bastards. I sincerely want a little poobuddy following me around- do they make squerrching noises when they jump? Leave skidmarks where they were? :whistle::whistle:
