I dont think i can have anything less then High settings, If i see blocks/blur where i shouldnt be seeing blocks/blur Im a firm hater. :(

  2. NightFire

    NightFire Parsec Taste Tester

I can play on normal if i really don't care or just want to play lol
but like you said i HATE blur or fuzz

I tried playing F.E.A.R. on this... it was all BLOCKS AND BLUR!@#$RT%HYJUKESGHDNYWGBW
I upped the quality though... it was much better after that

Anyways i'm just hapy my current craptop can run Starbound with just a few lag spikes

They hurt my eyes more then anything. That's one thing that older generations had alongside great stories. Blocks didn't fry your eyes from the Vsync blur. Because it didn't exist xD
Im lucky my high end machine runs starbound perfectly, It has never crashed or refuse to start, The only major lag spikes i get are when I enter populated glitch/avian villages.

AND it puts up with me deliberately destroying it for the good of everyone else here. :D

    you are totally wrong

i have a intel duo core both cores have 2.6Ghz
starbound runs fine for me in my win XP SP3 o3o except for the apec dungeon (fps drop of doom O3O)
it cant be a dual core issue =3

@ that other person which name i forgot xD
and yea, the XP issue is solved, i guess if you still have trouble with starbound has your PC trouble to handle the game, best thing is you show aswell what your starbound log in the steam folder says aswell that the devs can see where the loadprocess stops/crashes (whatever)

I'm totally wrong because it works for you? .
That's somewhat pushing the boat out a little don't you think? ;)

That, and yours being an Intel doesn't correspond with the AMD dual core users a lot of people have been having trouble with.
I managed to patch up an old AMD Athlon x2 2.5GHz machine just this morning for testing reasons.

    Full specs:

    AMD Athlon x2 2.5GHz
    4 Gb Ram
    Geforce GT240 GPU
Windows 7 x86 and Windows XP SP3 (two testing phases, Each OS installed on separate similar 256Gb HDDs)

In both instances Starbound had difficulty running.

Windows 7 experienced a standard Access Violation error which was fixed by raising the permissions value
Load time at first start up - 6 minutes 47 seconds.
Game overall, Lagged terribly whenever Monsters or anything remotely populated appeared (Avian/Floran dungeons being the worst) OpenGl proved to be no better.

Windows XP SP3 Refused to load the Direct X variant of the game at all. I had to run it via OpenGL
Load time at first Startup - 10 minutes 14 seconds.
Starbound ran pretty smoothly, OpenGL does have its benefits and showed a much better frame rate with a ton less frame drops in populated areas compared to the W7 installation. The fact it wouldn't load the normal Launcher though is something I haven't work out as of yet though.

Both HDD's had all updates and required Drivers installed.
Whats interesting to note is both OS's could happily run Skyrim and The Witcher 2 at a decent Level.
Set up for High Graphic settings both games ran at a pleasant 60 FPS.

    My own Computer which is

    AMD FX QuadCore 4.9GHz
    16 Gb Ram
    ATi Radeon HD 7770
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Given, the enormous boost to power here I runs Starbound just fine, It hiccups occassionally with frame rates which are much more noticeable.
But for a computer that runs Skyrim at a customly detailed HD detail (Way past the default Highest due to HD mods and whatnot) at a 120FPS constant.
    You wouldn't expect this.

Key word here and what I'm trying to get at is Optimization.
It runs fine on some, more so then others.

What is really interesting is the wealth of posts of late with Starbounds inability to cope with the Intel i7 processors.
There are a few here with the highest of the high in specifications (one last night had an Alienware MX XX unable to recall its exact figues) of which Starbound refused to load entirely.

Its turning out to be a lottery draw >.>

Just in case it helps the devs get an idea of whatever is going on, here's the error I get. Again.

    004DB931 (c:\SDL-1.2.15/./src/main/win32/SDL_win32_main.c:318)

Do you happen to get the exact same error?

  7. Loxy

    Loxy Pangalactic Porcupine

This is what I'm currently attempting to work out, I don't get an error persay, The XP3 will only load the OpenGL version.
because the game refuses to startup there is no logs to create for me to take a jam through. Very irritating. Im wondering if the 3DAnalyser fix will work for it however.

  8. omegadrace

Does it appear in your processes?
Nevermind, just saw your post in in a different thread.

  9. Redtremordragon

    Redtremordragon Subatomic Cosmonaut

    Sure.

    Intel Core 2Duo CPU
    T6670 @2.20 GHz
    2. 19 GHz, 2.96 GB of RAM
    3032MB RAM for memory

    Yet another Dual Core.. :(
Similar to the setup I provided above to prove a point to someone earlier.

Im still working on fixing the issue for me on that machine if I work something out Il let you know :)

While Im at it, I trust all your required Drivers are upto date? :)

    Oh look, another SDL error.

    "004DB931 (c:\SDL-1.2.15/./src/main/win32/SDL_win32_main.c:318)"

    Caused by SDL.dll, I'd think.

  12. Redtremordragon

    Redtremordragon Subatomic Cosmonaut

I had just updated them recently so I assume they are up to date.

  13. omegadrace

    omegadrace Cosmic Narwhal

Except, you know, I'm using the original sdl.dll and not the fix.

  14. Milavelo

    Milavelo Big Damn Hero

Who said anything about the fix?

I was talking about the "real" and or original sdl.dll, yes.

    :eek:o_O

If you're crashing, PLEASE post the ENTIRE stack trace, not single frames. "004DB931 (c:\SDL-1.2.15/./src/main/win32/SDL_win32_main.c:318)" doesn't mean much out of context.

My bad, I couldn't tell if that smiley was a confused face or a winking face. That and the tone of your post seemed like it was of general smart-arsedness. Again, my bad.

Except there really isn't much else worth looking at. The rest of it is only the usual warns and debugs.
But I'll scratch up a log when I can anyway.

  17. RvLesh

    RvLesh Parsec Taste Tester

Not necessarily the entire log. But the entire log is frequently useful. Just at least the whole stack trace!

I am very frustrated as I bought a four-pack for my friends and I , and now i cant play it .

  19. omegadrace

    omegadrace Cosmic Narwhal

Just realised, that was the whole stack trace.

  20. Butlflu McGee

    Butlflu McGee Space Hobo

I can run starbound, but I have extremely low unplayable fps.
    Win XP sp3
    2 duo 2.13
    2GB RAM
    some intel videocard 512mb

Friend with even lower specs but with win7 can run starbound normally.
