I can only offer help for Windows, I've no clue for other OS:

To break it down, what we're wanting to do here is to sort of replace one file with another by changing their names.

    1. Wherever you installed steam on your computer, go there and open \Steam\SteamApps\common\Starbound\win32 Generally it's under C:\Program Files (x86)\
    [IMG]

    2. In this folder find the file named starbound (make sure it says that it is an application, and not an icon :D ) and rename it as something like starboundBACKUP (this is because you can't have two files with the same name and type)

    3. Find the file named starbound_opengl.exe and rename it as just starbound So when we're done you should see these files:

I hope that all made sense. If not, I'd be happy to help further.

Well, i still can't play the game but at least this patch made progress i guess... I get stuck on loading, then get a stack error with a bunch of numbers, then that C++ run time error that others are getting. Trying possible fixes that others have suggested, hopefully it will work, if worst comes to worst, i wish you guys luck on resolving it in the next patch. Super keen to play starbound!

Well that's a bummer, on the store page it even says it supports XP but apparently it doesn't.

I try opening it from steam and press " play", but it keeps saying "Starbound quit unexpectedly". i have a Mac and everything to help thus far looks like it's for windows.

i am playing the game through steam. i'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but i've noticed that the game is not closing down properly when i exit. when i close the game, and try to reopen it, i can't, since it is still running. i have to go into my task manager and close down the game process before i can open it up again.

Just wanted to say, I've played for a few hours since I posted that yesterday, and it has been 100% stable so far. No crashes, no freezes, nothing weird.

Also, to expand on my explanation since it was missing some details, the patch is for the file starbound_opengl.exe (NOT starbound.exe), which means you will need to launch the game directly from it instead of from the launcher.

Also on a 6770, try changing your zoom level in the settings when you're having the bad frame rates. For me it seems to be in heavily decorated areas like castles or science labs or things like this. It could just be me tho, but it can't hurt to try.

New or old macOS? I have an older laptop I can try it in if yours is also an older mac. Then I could help troubleshoot your issue if I get it as well, but if it's a newer mac then it's likely not going to help xD

    Hey Chucklefish team Ive tryed the;

    "Rendering/memory issues
Some rendering/memory issues may be solved by replacing your "starbound.exe" file with "starbound_opengl.exe".
To do this, you'll need to copy and paste the original "starbound.exe" into another folder to back it up, then rename "starbound_opengl.exe" to "starbound.exe" and try running the game."

But when I, "Launch" the game it doesn't open at all ever since I did that it doesn't work AT ALL... Please help me im using Windows 7.

Enabling Admin for the Launcher (and the game too) allows me to play perfect; but I have no Steam Overlay, which is a bummer for me.

Otherwise I have massive stuttering lag in Single player, and the above fixes didn't help me :/ (nvidia card here, single thread used, it only used 2 with the fix)
