Hey Swift.. Welcome back to the land of the living..

I tried your most recent suggestions without much success.. there has been, however, a small development!! The error message has changed ever so slightly.. i've included a pic of it below.. I think the change is probably due to the game update.. When i click 'Launch Starbound' it opens a new window titled 'Starbound Beta' and then after about 30 secs gives the same error (well almost the same). I am hoping this is a sign that the game devs are at least trying to fix this issue.

It used to happen when I clicked launch, but now it happens after a black box appears, usually a minute after

If you'll help me, here is what happened:
I open the launcher and click on the Play button, and it is launching the game but is not responsive. I have a feeling it is because of my graphic drivers being out of date, but I can't seem to be able to update them.

I know there's been progress in confirming that the display adapter bugs, including crashes and black screens, have been closely associated with laptops and Macbooks. Unfortunately I cannot provide specific advice for models numbers aside from updating drivers and waiting for the nightly (or almost nightly) patches that they've been rolling out.

This is most likely from your game being disrupted from your gpu's queue. It's the same with people having issues once they minimize or alt-tab their game. Again, no known fix for this right now. When all else fails, remember that this is beta. However, being as most people are experiencing this black box now, I would recommend all to verify their Steam Game Cache and confirm that they aren't missing any files that would result in a game loading without any display.

Okay that raises even more questions. Let me look into this, Arch. I'll see if I can find some answers.

Would I be correct in assuming that you're using a Mac? If so, I can offer to direct you to the Mac version of this help thread in which I attempt & fail to correct those issues as well

I'm very interested as to why you're unable to update your drivers; I want to help you hunt them down. Would you mind replying with your output after running this program? (http://www.piriform.com/speccy)
