Cellos are better with age, if I recall correctly.

 

You mean that it's not wise to play cello until you reach certain age? Well I heard, that it's never too early, nor too late to start playing musical instrument you like...

 

No, I mean the cello itself usually sounds better if used, than if brand new. Just giving my limited cello advice.

 

Oh I see... well, that was the second possibility of how you meant it I thought of... but I have never heard about it... well I play only piano and alto recorder... so this would be possibly my first venture into stringed instruments. I want to learn cello for about year and a half now, but few days ago, I finally decided I'll do it... unfortunately cellos aren't cheap... I found a part-time job (I'm not exactly adult yet), but it is still going to be looong way to my goal... so I'd be happy for almost any cello

 

Just don't confuse a Cello for a Double Bass and vise versa.

 

I think it's a double bass, considering the size. I mean, if you call that honkin' thing a cello, I bet you'd need circus performers to play a double bass. I have played one before, so I am totally an expert.

 

I stop being Octavia for 2 days and people are all over cellos. What.

That's actually pretty good video... it's nice to see people answering questions with relevant research. It took me a while to realise what that "double bass" actually is... then I realised what stringed instrument looks like a cello, but is larger... I actually never heard the translation of "kontrabas" (sounds odd to me as well), which is the name for double bass in Czech...

And even though I really liked the picture of Octavia playing her instrument (apparanetly double bass, as we have seen in the video), that was not the reason why I decided I'd like to learn it. The instrument used in the song I posted here really was cello and I have also heard other songs performed on cello before. Same way I prefer alto over bass and soprano recorder, I like the sound of cello over violin and double bass.
