What would you do if you turned into your current starbound character?

Conquer a star system in the name of the USCM, duh.

Get mah burd on, get my ship movin, and GO EXPLORE! Seriously, it's the main reason I got this game, near infinite worlds to explore (even if they do all feel similar).

Lately, I've been playing a female human. o_O I guess that'd take some getting used to. But it probably wouldn't freak me out quite as much as turning something bizarrely alien, such as Floran or Novakid.

For the sake of nostalgia, here's the original 2014 thread:
What would you do if you turned into your main starbound character?

And, after a bit of updating, here's what I originally wrote:

Thundercraft's Guide to the Multiverse
What would I do? Initially in order, but not necessarily in this order:

1) What the...?! o_O I'd pinch and slap myself, doing what I can to make sure I'm not dreaming and that there's no obvious way back, such as a nearby dimensional door or portal.
2) Real... :x:rainbowbarf: If I fail to wake up or find an exit, I will admit this must be real and that I'm stuck (for now). I will treat my situation as such, never assuming that I have more than one life to live. Even if I find a cloning system, I will not assume that any clone it creates will be the same me as I am aware of myself. Besides, dying probably hurts!
3) Who... What am I?! :wtf: If I find myself turned into some weird alien species, I will be nonplussed. I would only feel comfortable as a human and, at that, probably only in my original skin. That said, I could get used to a new body as long as it was human, particularly if it was younger or buff. Otherwise, I would seek out a means of transforming myself back into a human. (That said, I suppose Apex might not be as weird as some others.)
4) The Bad with the Good: :up: I will assume that life as a lone space explorer will be lonely, hard and dangerous, preparing myself mentally. Though, I would also assume it has it's perks, like excitement, adventure, and beautiful and amazing sights.
5) Take Inventory: :paper: I will take a complete inventory of stuff on the ship. This includes reading any ship logs, familiarizing myself with items and the ship's equipment, and studying the local planet readouts.
6) I Haz Internetz? :cookie: If something like the Internet exists, I will exploit it for information.
7) Better Safe Than Sorry: :rip: Initially, I will VERY cautiously explore the safest planet(s) in the system, taking every reasonable precaution. For instance, I'd never venture out at night unless I knew it was safe. And by "safe" I mean that I had already paved / constructed / fenced over the surface of the local area and I have a good gun. That, or I'm wearing advanced armor that makes me almost invulnerable to the local fauna. (Preferably the latter.)
8) Always Have an Exit! :boo: :V To be trained as a habit: If I'm on the surface and I feel threatened (such as several approaching enemies or I'm seriously injured), then I will immediately teleport to my ship to escape and heal myself. If I'm underground, but near the surface, I will regularly drill holes into the walls such that I can teleport out. If I am too deep, I will ensure that I have a side tunnel that I can back into and seal off. When necessary, I'll dig small chambers for this.
9) Boyscout Motto: Be Prepared!:mspaint: I will carry around ample supplies of heat, light sources, medical supplies, food & cooking equipment, and some sort of healing device. And I will make sure that I have the necessary EPP, augments and/or armor equipped to protect myself before beaming down to a new planet.
10) My Precious...! :viking: I will hoard everything useful in my base and/or on my ship - preferably on my ship if it's big enough. If not, I will at least keep the most important and valuable stuff on my ship until it can be upgraded to hold more.
11) Man's Best Friend... :kitten2: As soon as possible, I will attempt to obtain and care for a strong pet. Not only can they make good and loyal companions, but strong monsters may make for a useful ally and guardian.
12) Teleporters for Safety & Convenience: :geek: I will try to learn how to build or obtain a teleporter device with extended range (studying at libraries, asking locals, bartering for blueprints, etc), such that I could use my ship teleporter even deep underground (or have a portable unit).
13) Hoverbikes? Tanks? Mechs? I will attempt to build or obtain one or more vehicles for travel on a planet's surface, preferably a fast flying vehicle. Preferably armed and armored. Preferably with heat and life-support. (That said, a military mech would be nice.)
14) Information Has Value: :paper: I will make careful notes of interesting and useful places, including planets with large mineral deposits, friendly villages, dangerous places to avoid, where to buy or find useful stuff, etc. This also includes persons of note, stories, rumors, recipes, blueprints, even advice. I may consider selling, trading, or swapping the information.
15) When in Rome... :proper: As a matter of habit: I will endeavor to be polite and courteous to all non-hostile sapients I meet. This includes studying and following the customs and laws of the major races.
16) Swaping Stories & Rumors: [IMG] I will attempt to learn what I can from non-hostile sapients. This includes trading stories and information. I will endeavor to be a good listener. And I will ask about rumors.
17) Spotting Liers & Con Artists: :sneaky::halo: I will learn how to be a good judge of character. (This includes studying the different "tells" of various races to see if they are lying.) And I will use this knowledge in dealing with others.
18) I Bet Yoda or Han Solo Could Teach Me a Thing or Two. :yoda: In my travels, I will try to seek out other adventurers to strike up a conversation. Being well-traveled and good at surviving a hostile universe, they are probably knowledgable in more than one area and more aware than locals of little-known facts, such as isolated/obscure planets with interesting traits.
19) Safety in Numbers: :monkey::kawaii::hylotl::nuruhappy: Depending on my instincts (see "good judge of character"), I may try to make friends and propose travelling and exploring together. Space is vast and lonely, while living and working together has it's perks. I'd freely trade with them and give them stuff I don't need. And it's nice to have someone to watch your back.
20) To Crew or Not to Crew? [IMG] Alternatively, or in addition, I may decide to hire on a crew. However, friendship is worth more, especially when it comes to loyalty.
21) Waste Not, Want Not: [IMG] [IMG] Rather than discard stone, ores, weapons, armor, clothes, etc that I no longer want, I will store it and look for someone who might buy it or otherwise find a use for it. As long as nobody currently owns it, I will take everything of value not bolted down (and then some). I expect it's a matter of finding the right person. And I'm not above a roundabout path to profits, even if it requires multiple trades or trading for information. I'd sooner give it away than see it waste, though. And I'd be sure any crew or companions I have are taken care of.
22) Do I Want to Go Back? I will seek out methods of traversing dimensions or otherwise finding a way back. But, after a period of months living as a space adventurer, I may decide I'm content in this strange new universe.

Scream uncontrollably for three hours straight.

Then I'd scream for an additional fifteen minutes every time I encountered a new race or monster. That would go on until my untimely demise.
Until I realized that every time I die I just rematerialize with a bit of my cash missing. Then my horrified expression would slowly transition into
a face that looks something like this:

You just did not pay any attention to the story at all, have you? Did... Did you even play the game?

It Is in fact the same Ruin. It wasn't the whole size of Earth, it just was imprisoned/teleported itself into a part of the Earth's crust, then worked it's way to the most populated urban centre and broke out, before wiggle-waggling it's way across Earth's surface.
The centralised government I'm talking about IS THE WHOLE PROTECTORATE. Y'know, the multi-cultural Space Police/ Space UN that was responsible for uniting all the advanced colonies of the various species? The one where it's headquarters was stationed in the urban center that was targeted by the Ruin?
We killed the Ruin by digging through it's flesh into it's heart which we destroyed. Think Shadow of the Colossus mixed with the Fantastic Voyage. Or Magic School Bus, whichever you prefer.
Imagine an ant with a device built to displace molecules and atoms. That's how we killed the Ruin (except you, it seems)

Take note that each species has various cultures and ways of living each.
The Glitch have Kingdoms, Black Fortresses, Planet-Trapped Outcasts, and starbound Outcasts.
The Avians have the Kleux Devotees, Grounded Free Cities, and starbound Grounded.
The Apex have the totalitarian Miniknog and the Resistance fighting each other for control and freedom respectively, both starbound.
The Florans have the Planet-side tribes, and starbound explorers, hunters and champions.
The Hyotl are starbound and unified, but are still divided, as there are some who stay in their lavish underwater cities, and some who boldly colonise the lands above.
The Novakid live in a constant state of starbound Wild West-dom, forming small oasis' of towns and ranches (and whatever else the devs are planning on adding in).
The Humans are divided as well, between the starbound explorers and settlers who've already established homes out in space, the Refugees from Earth who've built huge camps on any planet that's liveable, the USCM who expanded to the stars and build bunkers and prisons to maintain human security but retreated once our home was destroyed, the Protectorate who built lasting alliances between races and civilisations only to be nearly destroyed in an instant, and the Occasus, an extremely racist and fanatic group dedicated to exterminating all non-human life and who praise the Ruin, their leader convinced by the Ruin itself that it will kill only non-humans if released even though it just wants to destroy everything in a galactic tantrum.
Learn your lore.

Also, do "space raiders" (space pirate is a better term) have gorgeous free-trade farms, museums, free people from oppression, kill bandits, and save the galaxy from a giant horrible space squid?
The players aren't space pirates, guy. We're adventurers.

But then again, you probably have a folder on your computer dedicated to Darth Sidious X Joker fanfic.

If YOU turned into YOUR character I'd DEFINITELY have to turn into my character. I'd give you a tour of my base ending very smoothly at her bedroom, then show you the simple wiring mechanism that turns off the lights in said bedroom.

and then you can explore her dark sector.

BESIDES Seducing Lord Baconator I'd probably do exactly what my character does on a typical basis...run around her massive base in nothing but a nightshirt and underwear, whilst eating coffee and donuts, then plop down in front of her massive computer and play MMO's for too many hours instead of being productive.

Yes I'd play video games inside a video game deal with it. :nurutease:

Create an intergalactic (Or at least interstellar) empire.
Derail most boss fights by:
Pre-buying some Erchius crystals so as to avoid dealing with the Horror.
Bringing an armor-piercing gun to fight the Ixodoom.
Talk Asra down by abusing exact words in both boss fights.
Bringing my own army to the Baron's Keep.
Using the Ark as a massive garbage bin in order to pollute the Ruin and cause it to get sick and die wihtout needlessly sacrificing myself (Or, alternatively, making the teleporter to the ship work underground in order to avoid the explosion caused by the Ruin's death).

Make vehicle (Specially aircraft) and gun factories, and get rich by selling military hardware.
Figure out what happened to that "Greenfinger" guy.
Finally make the in-universe NPCs have brains that can associate "I'm burning to death" with "I'm trying to swin in lava".
Find myself in a situation in which I have impacted someone's life a lot so that I can tell them that the day I graced their country, village, or whatever, it was the most important day in their life, but for me...it was tuesday.
Figure out how to be inmortal so said empire doesn't crumble to pieces once I die, or, alternatively, make it so it doesn't need me to work so I can retire.
Scold the Cultivator for being a neglectful precursor.
Figure out why people seem to be willing to live in a cell that literally has one light and two doors (At most).
Restore an RV to working order, and use it to mass-produce stimpacks.
Destroy the Occasus cult because they'll likely target at least 6/7ths of my empire's population (Likely more because of low human population, but we don't really know about the population of the other species). And, of course, do so by talking them down with the charisma I would have needed to make an empire in the first place.

Spend the first week or so getting used to my new black and green metallic body. After that I would probably find the most isolated planet in the galaxy and build an underground bunker.

Then wander the universe looking for forgotten treasures and adventure. I don't want to bother with this whole empire-building thing.

There so many inaccurate in here. The protectorate is not a gouvernemnt, at least this is not said in the game at all, it is just a bunch of eartlings helping others and stuff, like the UN forces or the red cross. So half of the things you say here are entirely made up in your mind. Otherwise give us the ingame sources for where we can proof that the protectorate is the gouvernment.
You have no evidence it is the same ruin, thats just what granny says, And the fact still stands that this ruin can crush an entire planet yet not a single individual, that makes no sense (even if thats whats the intention of the story). Thats also one ruin with scyscraper sized tentacles vs just a regular human with some guns. Weare not like in other plots gifted with special superhuman powers. So whatever this one person can do would have easily been able to be done by the humans of earth at the moment of the happening. And they mostlikely had better tech available at earth. Thats a major plothole which makes it unblelievable for any proper mind to say these ruins are the same. Yes we digged through the ruin and earth with all its ships and pew pew abailable wasn't able to kill soemthign one can DIG THROUGH!

thats just worth a meme
[IMG]

And no, its no device with molecule stuff youc na use a PICKAXE and a sword. so even your cool atomic magic device is made up.

uhhm what? HUGE camps? DID YOU played the game?because:

yes sounds HUGE.

So taking stuff of other peoples containers (and don't tell me you never do this) is now called adventurer and not raider, invading and killing all the guards of Avian temples is surely also just "adventure" and nor "raider" right? or are oyu trying to tell m you NEVER went into one of these?

so please lern your own lore better because you make half the thing up, some things you say are entirely wrong and you connect them with your very own logic which often is just incorrectly adding new lore that is not actually confirmed.

When I write a book saying you are the evil guy, then thats just going to be true?

so recheck your logic, the ruin destroyed one planet, instantly evil by your logic. What the ruin really wnat's is unknown, its only said by people against the ruin. so all this is not necessarily reflecting the truth.
The floran nearly extincted the hyotl (thats even written in a book) yet not evil? What the floran did was way worse than what the ruin did so far.

Also, why are the hyotl "divided"? where the ingame source? some Live underwater some above, but this does not necessarily make them "divided" So you have a ingame source for that claim you did?

I'm not particularly well-versed in the 1.0 lore so I'm not sure about that Arin Borealis VII thing they mentioned (Or pretty much 90% of the stuff they brought up, anyway). I'm unsure if it's actual lore or if this is an example of a person forgetting the differences between "head-canon" and "confirmed canon."

I only really did this to point out some flaws in your argument. Also, let's not get completely side-tracked here, don't want half the thread to be two guys arguing over something. If it must continue, try a PM, perhaps?

On a side note, check your spelling a bit. It makes you look kind of silly.

Guys

what-would-you-do-if-you-turned-into-your-current-starbound-character

There, because apparently we kinda got a little bit carried away in terms of the story and the OP. I want to add on to my post, I already posted about me being my two floran characters, so I will add my avian character.

It will be weird, especially that I will have a beak instead of lips, and that I will have trouble playing a clarinet, which I do know how to play. How do Avians play a clarinet or any reed instrument without squeaking, I totally confused? Anyway, it will be a bit weird, especially with a mindset of that of the Anchient culture, but if I retained my knowledge of my past life, I can easily compare it to the Protoss from Starcraft and know the culture is loosely based on that. My diet will be different, I will be a little more weird eating KFC now. The sight will be good to see though, if the place was 3D and realistic, the night skies and wonderful landscapes will certainly make a sight unlike anything. The lifeforms will also be cool to see, like a nature

Except Erchius Ghosts, they can rot in the deepest darkest hole of Oblivion/Nether/Hell/Void/Brinstar for all I care.

No, really, that'd be pretty sweet. The whole fresh water aversion thing would suck a lot, but otherwise? I'm pretty okay with being a squid.
I just don't know how to work a ship, or how to viably hold a minigun, or what I should be doing when wandering through hostile human camps, but.. I'd figure it out in time.

Alternatively, if this only includes vanilla races, I'm also pretty okay with being a heroic cassowary avian that goes around beating up Stargazers and raiding all their treasure.
