What is your playstyle?

I'm just curious how others approach combat, buffs, armor, and other gameplay choices.

I am playing a Floran and use the Damage III augment (Though I keep another pack with the Swimming augment with me if I visit an ocean planet) and yellow stim packs (I bought around 300 from a merchant) and I use the Manipulator (+damage) armor. I use the spear with the flurry special most of all, and sometimes the sniper rifle with explosive rounds. I'll use Ultimate Juice when I feel motivated enough to make a bunch of them.

I don't bother with pets because they seem too fragile, though I do drag along my crew members pretty often. I use the Sprint, Multi-Jump and Spike Sphere techs, as they seem to be the best choices for fluid travelling. I also don't bother with the hoverbikes, they handle awkwardly and get stuck everywhere. I just sprint everywhere.

    How about you all?

Welp, i'm playing as the Gunsmith

My gameplay is essentially axed on building, exploring, and creating weapons

For the armor, I use the manipulator set too, and for the tech: wall jump, air dash and speed ball
As for the weapons, I use the guns I made

Manipulator armor, tend to stick to musketeer playstile, that is, blow your guns until you run out of juice, if someone is still alive, move in melee for the kill. Usually stick to sniper rifles w/ piercing shot (general purpose), grenade launchers (AoE and knockback, also good to use with a flashlight or medkit in other hand) and broadswords (sidearm). As for augs, I mostly use Healing III, OP as hell, albeit if visibility is more important, I also has EPP w/ Light III. Pets are a joke, but I occasionally get crewmates for when I don't want to bother myself with enemies (between outlaw with shotgun and soldier with assault rifle, if anything even gets through, it definetly requires my interference). As for techs, Sprint, Wall Jump and Spike Sphere (duh)

    I'm a roleplayer.

The designs of my characters in creation, their weapon choices, their ships, their crew (Or lack of), their armor types....all comes from a roleplay perspective.

My main character -points at picture- Is a human interstellar time traveler who was formerly a space pirate because she had daddy issues, but eventually turned over a new leaf and went clean. She has a massive ship (Max size) but only hires Glitch crewmembers (She is convinced if they try to turn on her she can reprogram them easily) And she owns my main base, Echo Epsilon, which is on a frozen planet and serves as a rest stop for interstellar travelers.

She uses all sorts of guns, and a giant hammer as a melee weapon because mechanic, and also Magnorbs because a little accident cost her a right arm and leg, and she had to get robotic prosthetics.

She uses the Aegisalt armor for increased ranged attack duration of course, and has far too many outfits.

I could go on, but she's one of currently 11 characters I have, I also have an Apex Rebel leader, a Rancher Novakid, a freighter Novakid, a retired Hylotl fishmomma warrior, A glitch who's programming fault makes him think he's a singing diva, a human bodyguard, an exiled Floran shaman...I don't have a problem.

I'm a specialist, ranged/support type. Apart from playing as my own modded race, I primarily use the Hylotl. I use the manipulator set along side some wands/staves I find in my travels. Using both terrain and traps, I set choke points for certain spells and, when playing with others, can switch to support-based spells to provide buffs, or mobility bonuses that aid the melee vanguard of my group.

  9. Doublejho

    Doublejho Existential Complex

My character is just a scavenger (think Risk of Rain) and uses everything they can get their hands on; there's no moral code to combat.

A jack of all trades, she's equipped with a hybrid of the 3 armours so she has no real flaws, and primarily uses whatever is the most entertaining at the time - however, a hammer is a staple weapon, and one of my favourite things to do at the minute is lay down an energy zone (from a level 6 stave) and use a rocket launcher with rocket burst, alternating between primary and secondary fire (it's absolutely devastating when there's no energy costs tied to it).
Since I collect things, though, there's always something that can be done in any situation, whether it's healing allies or dishing out damage.

As for techs, I use multi-jump, air dash and dash sphere, since jumping after charging it fully can net you about 3 screens-worth on x2 zoom off of one charge provided you time your multi-jumps well.

    I'm a bulider I guess.

Generally I come up with what I want with each character; ie role play to a degree.
With my first, which is floran is a spear weild and a sniper on the hunt for treasure. Treasure to me can be just about anything, including an upgrade to my current spear. Mainly though it is the cosmetics; furniture, costumes, instruments, blocks, and that one special world with Koalas on it.

I build where I can, so the colony system is something I mess with most when not hunting for something.

I have other ideas for characters, but mainly just in personality... I've only made 3 characters so far. My primary one, and another floran & human.

Overall playstyle I would say play as I go type turtling my way through progression, so I take longer getting through the progressions. :nuruhappy:

I like to pick em off with anything that has a good amount of range. e.g: snipers, staffs and for close up a spear.

I used to attack my enemies from range, using a machine pistol or one of several staffs, taking out weaker enemies up close with my broadsword.

Then i bought a few farm animals. With my harvest i bought a perfectly generic item from the shop just for the achievement, and discovered the perfect armour set.
It's... pretty OP (or at least waaaay too easy to get). Now i just walk up and slash with my broadsword with no regard for my own safety. They can barely scratch me and i carry healing items anyway.

Ranged spellcaster! I carry nothing but staves/wands (with the exception of the relocater gun & adaptable crossbow for when I need food), so I dominate at a distance but get slaughtered if I get boxed in. That works for me!

Same! As far as weapons I use the best broadsword I can find. I don't like spears and hammers and stuff so I stick to swords. I also carry an automatic rifle for ranged action. It's about 50/50 use.

I guess I'm a "spellsword" style player...at least, that's the best way I can think of describing my playstyle.

My main weapon of choice is a rare ice element broadsword with blink explosion. It makes for a pretty good 4-hit combo. The three standard broadsword attacks in combo with the ice debuff will keep most enemies just out of attack range. When that combo goes on CD, I activate blink explosion to round it off. The enemies will try to charge/jump in during this "opening", but I still don't have to worry about taking damage since blink explosion iframes during activation. So, the enemies get hit with ~700 damage from the explosion, and I'm once again at a suitable distance to repeat the combo in the event that any enemies actually survived.

For ranged attacks, I primarily use a couple of magic setups. I have a Poison Bouncer/Attraction Zone staff for locking down enemies and pummeling them with the bouncer orb, and a dual Ice/Fire Portal wand setup in case I just need to fire a barrage in some general direction to wipe out a group of enemies.

To round off the setup, I carry a Ferozium Staff to aid with platforming/shielding NPCs, and a Fire Orb/Healing Zone staff to heal NPCs while using the orb to scout out dark areas, destroy traps, and hit enemies in tight areas that the other ranged weapons have trouble reaching.

If I ever feel the urge to use a pet, I carry an Adult Poptop with a Healing III collar, a Wisper with a Healing III collar, a giant flying mohawk bird-thing with a flamethrower attack and Healing III collar, and a Nutmidge with an Electric Bomb collar. Still have yet to find an Oblivious collar for my Lumoth, so he sits in storage for now.

Since I seem to have more than enough damage with my current setup, I use a Healing III augment so I don't have to rely on red stims and bandages as much.

My current tech setup is Multi-Jump, Air Dash, and Spike Ball.

My current armor is the Perfect Armor set.

I've messed around with this before, too.

While I prefer the feel of a broadsword, a proper dual sword or sword/dagger setup will usually stun lock anything that isn't a boss. And you can stack up two different element debuffs on whatever you hit since you're using two different weapons. A great setup if you just want to kill things with minimum resistance. The shortsword keeps them just out of attack range while the dagger keeps 'em locked down with rapid hits. While dual daggers can also do this to a degree, I find that the shorter range of the daggers sometimes allows enemies to get close enough to hit you.

yeh but for some reason dagger i find is huge
like the developers messed with their sprites or something to make them all in the same group
that or i never actually found real daggers

From what I noticed, the ability to stun lock a target with a dual melee setup heavily depends on how well your strikes are staggered out during the attack. The cases where the daggers failed to consistently keep an enemy off of me were cases where I used two daggers that were on the slower end of the attack speed spectrum and had similar attack speeds. That occasionally provided a window that faster enemies or enemies with odd hitboxes could use to inch in close enough to touch me. This didn't seem to happen as much with shortswords since they seemed to have a slightly longer attack range.

At least, that's how they behaved when I messed with them. But, lag could have also been a factor as I play on a fairly old computer.

    My setup;
Tech: Normal Pulse Jump, Air Dash, and Spike Sphere.
Weapon Choice:I usually stick to broadswords, and also assault rifles for some ranged damage. I also like spears, but not quite as much as broadswords.
Armor:I always go for the Melee separator set. I prefer tanking over damage, and I personally think that accelerator armor is a waste.
Pets:Not usually bothered to use them, but when I do I go for Mandraflower with Health 3.
Build style: These days I like building more, I like Hylotl build style.
