this could have fit aswell into the "gear" and "crafting", but technically it would be a new mechanic added.

one thing ive been missing from this game is a weapon modification system (for non legendary weapons). being able to scrap weapons you dont want to use for spare parts and using the parts to augment other weapons.

similar to the existing system of backpack upgrades, and pet collar upgrades.

for this purpose, it would be great, if there was a new crafting station "weapon modification station". examples of weapon modifications would be:

    - adding a flashlight to your weapon (really, this would be amazing, when exploring the surface of dark planets and caves)
    - laser scopes for aussault rifles, 1 handed guns and sniper rifles, grenade launchers (shows the path of the projectile)
    - generic power upgrades like % reduced energy consumption, increased damage etc.
    - switching out/adding elemental damage to a weapon by using static cells (and equivalent items according to elemental type)
    - adding/changing the secondary effect of a weapon.

and whatever else you can come up with.

I like the idea of changing weapons' elemental damage and secondary attacks.
You should polish the flashlight and laser ideas for the guns tho.

whats there to polish? at least for the flashlight should be a straight forward upgrade. its basically like your matter manipulator in scan mode casts light infront of you, or holding a normal flashlight in your hand. just that its attached to your gun. maybe it could be a new right click ability for guns. to turn it on and off.

the point is, that you can see where youre walking at night, while holding a 2 handed gun in your hand.
