Unable to use items or have any display in my character's hand

I was fighting the Ruin with a buddy, and much to my dismay I was unable to use the "e" key to get through the door back into the boss fight after respawning at the checkpoint. I also was unable to see any of my weapons or items in my hand. I tried eating food by pick up an item and right clicking outside the the inventory but was not allowed to do that either. Every item I tried was also broken. I was still able to move however.
Specifics
Operating system - Windows 10
Where I downloaded and play game from - Steam
Where in game - Fighting the heart of the Ruin for the 1st time
With who - 1 additional player who was right next to me without any problems
Other characters - No crew members or npcs with us
How many times I've had this bug - 2 times
How many times I've seen similar bugs with inventory - 5, but 3 could have been lag related
Other open applications - Discord & Firefox

Let me know if you guys need anymore information to help solve the problem

Update
The bug happened again after dying but I was able to fix it by shrinking to an orb with f and expanding again.
