Let's face it. I'm no code monkey. But, if someone sent me some sample code that I could plug values and object names into, I could probably figure it out. I have a mod that adds block recipes, but I don't know where in the Starbound folder it is that I could reverse engineer. I have Notepad ++, so that should help.
You should poke around the assets to get a feel for where things are. Anything someone could put together for you to "plug values and objects into" would be basically the same as just reverse engineering the vanilla stuff. Recipes are in the... recipes folder. You can also look at mods that do something similar to what you want and see how they did it.
