Welcome to the Rise of Fum al Samakah!

This thread will document the rise of the mighty kingdom of Samakah. From humble beginnings this Hylotl clan will rise to be the bearers of Honor, Decency, and Order.

Fum al Samakah is a system located within the eccentric star Gamma Fum al Samakah 3980.

Individual Planet details will follow as they are developed below.

    None yet.

Our story begins with the exile of a small Hylotl tribe after their planets demise. Not ones for revenge, our small group decided to relocate rather than fight. They will continue the Hylotl traditions of their forefathers, they will never lose their place among the stars. These are the tales of that rise.

The RP rules that I will be following....
1- Civilians are needed to populate the cities, and must be added to fill vacancies and positions in the town.
2- Civilians need a variety of crops to live healthy. Crops include meats, grains, fruits, vegetables, sugars, starches, specialties, racial, and a source of water (or oil for glitch).
3- Civilians all need housing, food stockpile, a profession, and recreation. Nothing in town can be simply brought in, it must be made. Bricks need fired, crops need harvested, weapons need smithing. Food stocks should be 10x the amount of citizens. (that's number of plants, not food)
4- The town will grow as more people generate, needing more services and buildings as it grows. The quality of buildings will also improve, as more specialists are generated.
5- The Rule of Law will be a Stratocracy - which is a government ruled by the military. Under a Stratocracy, all Civilians are required to serve in the military, may vote and hold office, and follow the constitution of the land. The Spartians of Greece are an example of this method of rule.
6- being military minded and honor bound, an arena or dojo will be the center of all towns in this culture.
7- cheated items will not be used, nor any mods. However, an end game builder character is the main character here.

Our first part of the story begins here.

    History

Landing day. We set up camp on the coast of our new island. A makeshift shack was built to keep our supplies dry from the frequent rains. Tomorrow we plan to cultivate a farm, and lay the foundations for our first house. It's nice to feel the water again, but hopefully the rain holds off for tomorrow....

    Good news!
We have built our house and farm just before we ran out of rations. The frequent rains had delayed us for a few days, but once we got the roof on, we built the rest of the house quickly. Now we can relax for a few days while the plants mature. It will be nice not having to live off the land, and out of tents.

    StarboundCronicalsFirstHouse.jpg

While living off the land and building, we found the coconut trees provided good food, so we added a stone coconut milk tank under the house. It will give us something to do on those rainy days. The morning after we finished, the dawn was quite spectacular, so Gillist decided to go fishing off the new dock.

    StarboundCronicalsDockatDawn.jpg

Now that we can survive a little easier, it's time to get to work on harnessing all that clean rainfall. Once we have another water source, we can get more cultivation started, and grow our little outpost into a great island town... For our ultimate goal of getting back underwater will be possible with time, effort, and a little luck.

Nice house! I'm looking foward to seeing the Hylotl reclaiming the water. Due to their conflict with the Floran, there must be a lot of groups creating colonies, each with a different style and culture variations.

The rain pagoda has been completed!

    StarboundCronicalsWaterRiceTower.jpg

It is an open air design, with the upper two levels dedicated to water collection, and the lower two levels for our new crops of rice. The rain will continue through to the lower levels, keeping all full for collection. Rice is a staple food for our clan, and we pride ourselves on the many recipes of rice we use. We also decided that this island is too small to try and build too many buildings, so the pagoda is multipurpose. The upper room can be used as a lookout for weather, the upper deck can be used for bird hunting in good weather, and the ground level we will use as our access to underground.

With the increase in food production, the tribe needs to get more storage space, and look to increasing our technology into blacksmithing. Of course, we can't mine any materials here until we can get to the ocean floor...

With the addition of the pagoda, we have had a few families come to our humble establishment.

Ex-Knight Ruin, a glitch outcast who has formed an unusual family, consisting of his very kind Seamstress-Hylotl wife Haruko and their adoptive children, Hal, a young male glitch just out of the hivemind, and Kotohime, Haruko's biological niece whose parents were tragically slain. The family had been traveling the stars, looking for fellow glitch or hylotl to take them in. By pure chance, they came across our system... but we gladly accept them.

Ruin is a dedicated military officer, and is good with any bladed weapon. Haruko is primarily a cloth specialist but also knows a bit about electronics, which will be useful when we can get them. Hal plans on figuring out advanced space-related technology as soon as he can, and it was him who kept their families ship operational throughout their journey. Kotohime is currently non-combatant material as she's only a child, but shows a propensity for good reflexes... she could potentially make a fine combatant.

A glitch, calling himself Daru, also arrived, apparently fleeing for his life from his fellow countrymen. He has oversized hands and large hydraulics built into his arms, and is quite a specialist at mining. He will do well here, adding a much needed specialist to our tiny outpost.

With all the new arrivals, we have now filled the surface of our tiny island. We added the blacksmith shop, with a decent house attached to it.
    StarboundCronicalsBlacksmith.jpg

Now that the island surface was full, we begin to look deeper for more space. Storage was in short supply, especially if we were going to be trading goods soon, so we set up some underground storage under the pagoda.
    StarboundCronicalsStorageShaft.jpg

Additionally, we added an underwater access point to get ready for our move to the ocean bottom. Daru built us some strong steel doors to keep the water pressure in check, and he said he will soon make a mining chain lift to the bottom of the ocean. After we have a good supply of ores coming up, we should be able to advance our technology enough to build our city underwater. In the meantime, it's back to fishing for me...

Actual fishing would be pretty fun in this game. That could feed into the extensive food system.

    Suggestion:

Lorne (Hylotl) and Tanno (Hylotl). Art thieves, who meant to hide out in an unpopulated sector of space until things quieted down again. Upon encountering the fledgling Samakah settlement, they traded their working hands for better food and housing and inclusion, so long as they would maintain an honourable lifestyle during their stay.

(Does that fit at all with your idea?)

Took a few months to build, but we now have a steady stream of limestone and ores coming up. We hope to get a trade network going, and will probably set up some outposts on the surrounding planets soon to spread our possibles.

More coming soon... just a quick picture update, the story will follow.

Been a little while.... but the Outpost has grown substantially while we have been away.

If you recall, we have been struggling with island space, and our tech level is not conducive for us to begin building on the ocean floor in full strength... so we have to improvise.
    StarboundCronicalsWaterFoodPlatform.jpg
    StarboundCronicalsTunnelApartments.jpg

We extended our bottom storage space into a hallway, and hollowed out the right side of the island. In this space, we created a shared living space for 6 more citizens. With the close quarters, we added a glass sitting/eating room for a more freeing feel. We also added 3 new farms... one on the right coast, one domed area for the more sensitive crops, and one under the complex in the ocean waters for farming our coralcreep and reefpod crops. I cannot wait for the first crop of reefpods to come in... are we going to eat on that day!

Shortly after our island expansion, a pair of Hylotls made a quick approach to us for shelter. They where low on fuel, but had a good ship to travel with, and more importantly, higher tech benches to use. So we agreed that we could use their ship for community needs, and they could stay here free of charge. The two hylotls, Lorne and Tanno are good with their hands, and have a good eye for details. They especially took a liking to my wife, Tabi's studies in the old arts and history. They seam innocent enough, but we will keep an eye on them. Ruin assures me there will be no problems with any citizens here, especially once we can make our community Dojo. But that is a ways off.

We first need to get a few outposts set up on our systems moons for fuel mining. We won't be able to support much trade if we can't make a refueling station for our future trade partners. We will use the tech level 3 benches on Lorne and Tanno's ship to begin steel construction, so we can make efficient use of our resources. Hal has insisted he be a part of ship work, for he loves space and spaceships. I'm not so sure Ruin will let him, but I'll see if we can use him while setting up our moon outposts. It would be a good learning experience.

It has been great to be building with steel again. Lorne's ship has been immensely useful. Our old ship had been too damaged to really work on it, and we didn't have the necessary tech to fix it anyways. Now we do. So we have moved on from our initial colony to set up a refueling outpost on one of our moons. Upon landing, we started our build with myself, Daru, Tabi, Hal, and Lorne. We had just finished the skeleton frame, when our ship sensor sent us a warning of incoming meteors. We all evacuated to the ship to await the coming storm.

After it had passed, we went back down to find most of our frame still intact. Tabi was worried that it would be too dangerous to continue work here, but there was only one other moon in the system. We decided that with so few moons to mine in this system, we couldn't abandon the station. So Daru brought out some obsidian he had mined from Hajime, and we set to work making a structure to withstand the meteorites. It took much longer to build it with the hard to use obsidian, and we got caught in another shower after we had built the roof.... but the build held up. Once the obsidian had proven it's effectiveness, Hal and Lorne went back up to the ship to fabricate the mining equipment and piping needed to get the fuel out of the ground. After a few days of long building hours and cramped sleeping quarters on the ship, we had finished the structure. Daru mined the shaft down while we followed with stabilizers, platforms and the pipe. After 3 hours we struck Liquid Erchius. We set the final platform, and headed back to the surface, ready to test it out.

    StarboundCronicalsMoonFuelStation1.jpg

The pumps fired right up, and we set up the barrels to begin filling. We all stayed for the following day, filing up barrel after barrel of fuel to bring back. We had another meteor shower, but with Hal and Lorne staying up on the safety level, filling in roof holes, we didn't have any problems. After gathering around 3500 fuel, we throttled it down for Daru to stay and man the station himself for a while. We will head back, and set up a shift schedule to keep the place running at a constant rate. We could really use some more hands now....

But on the bright side, we have fuel now, and can begin construction on the ocean floor.
