Sort of an disappointing end to the game. I was expecting this to happen for quite some time... But I guess the true winner is the madness itself!
Closest the Penguins have gotten to a victory in a long time. Even Cultist and Shadow victories were really close, which was interesting to see.
does this stalemate mean I actually made a balanced game?!?! prolly no lol

I'll post a some thoughts... later I guess? This game was really eventful-- well, during Nights. Day 5 was especially sad nonsense. I'll put together something sensible. Try to, at the very least. I said I was putting together some sorta guide for this game, and the progress on that is, welp, minimal. I don't have much free time in my hands right now, so that'll have to wait a li'l bit longer.

Next game? I haven't given much thought into that yet, but I guess it's coming kinda soon-ish. I don't have any dates yet in my mind, so don't bother signing up yet. If you have any ideas, please say. All of them are appreciated.
In the meantime, there's some other Mafia news. More about that later.

With the guide I want to give some role-specific strategy advice to give everyone a proper direction at the start of the game. By no means a holy book of mafia but just some tips on how to get the game rolling and active until the end

 

Okay, so I now as I remembered it, I have a blunder to confess. whoopsies
Firepaw was a Cultist (Hidden), which means no investigative roles should've had any effect on him. Thus, Wilfrey should've never been able to see his attempt at killing. Star Sheriff (Warden) gets the latest reported night action, but should have not been able to get anything from the Hidden. Actually, on Night 1, Penguin (Spy) Solar used the same ability. At that time, Firepaw was in the same position, but I remembered the Hidden's ability that time and Solar found out Firnen's protection attempt instead.

I blame the mistake on doing things in a hurry, but it was a mistake that could've been avoided. Luckily it didn't affect the game too much. I did tell Firepaw about the mistake (with a hint that Wilfrey was the one who got the information) as an offset. Sooo... disaster avoided? Apologies, nevertheless.



Into other better things. Anyone ever heard about Mafia Championships? It's an invitational tournament of Mafia to which several communities nominate a representative to play in a online tournament. Its Season 3 is soon starting and I'm honestly pretty damn surprised to hear that it's possible that the invitation could be extended to include us here.
I mean, how did someone even find these little games back here. this ain't even a mafia-centered forum

I was seriously shit this game. I missed half of it and kept trying to nightkill dead people or other penguins afterwards. I'm honestly surprised I didnt attract more suspicion.

Zebe may run the show, but I think we should nominate one of the players. @DustyScabbard was a very good reasoner in past games, but he may have other things to do. Zesko would probably be my second choice.

Invitation to The Mafia Championship Season 3

Hello fellow Mafia enthusiasts!

My name is Thingyman. I am making this post with the hopes that your community would be interested in participating in Season 3 of the Mafia Championship.

The Mafia Championship is an annual online tournament series that pits representatives from various forum Mafia communities against one another as they compete to determine the Internet’s greatest forum Mafia player. The representatives are officially and democratically chosen to be “Champions” by their respective communities.

Season 1 (2013-2014) featured 100+ players from 45+ different communities, and the Season 2 (2015) boasted an even more impressive count of 70 different communities represented. The creator of Mafia himself (Dmitry Davidoff) has even supported and endorsed the series by previously offering to privately chat with the ultimate winner.

This year we’re expanding once again; 136 communities will be invited to participate, making this not only the biggest Mafia event ever, but also the largest cross-forum event in the history of the Internet.

Are you interested?

I am hoping very much that this all sounds exciting! If interested, I would need you all to name one representative to play on your community's behalf. How you decide this representative is completely up to you. To guarantee your community a spot in Season 3 of the Mafia Championship, I will need to know of your community's interest within the next week (until April 4th). Following this, you will have an additional two weeks to decide your nominee (until April 18th). Additionally, it would be a very good idea to also name an alternate.

When deciding your nomination, please consider the following: You should of course be aiming to send one of your best players. But more importantly this individual needs to be able to participate adequately in terms of activity. Be prepared for at least upwards of 500 posts per 24 hours during the early stages of the game. The representative needs to not only be able to read all this, but should also at least be able to manage 10+ posts per day phase. I repeat: These games will be active.

Season 3 Specifics

• 136 different communities are invited to participate. If some decline the invitation, I may opt to allow larger communities an additional nominee.
• 8 Qualifying Games will be played with 17 players each.
• 2 players advance to the Finale Game from each game based on post-game votes.
• 1 Wildcard Game will be played (Wildcards are decided by a jury consisting of former finalists), determining the 17th and final spot in the Finale. Runner-ups in this game will be first in line to replace any finalists who may have to drop out.

Season 3 Timeline & Important Dates

The first Qualifying Game is set to start April 25th. Additional games will take place in the 1-3 months following. I will create a Doodle and find out the best times to start the various games so that preferably everyone gets to play during a time that suits them well.

In addition to this, it is also a priority to ensure as much as possible that all the players in any given game has no prior history of playing with each other to ensure a level playing field (but I cannot 100% guarantee that this won’t happen).

Season 3 Game Design & Setup

For each season, we’ve changed it up. This time, we’re doing something new again!

The setup is called Matrix12 and is inspired by mafiascum’s popular Matrix6 setup, if any of you are familiar with that. In short, the concept is that there are 12 different possible setups and the host randomizes which one is used. The players know what setups are available, but not which one will be used!

Regarding lynch mechanics: There will be a deadline each day phase, and the person with the most votes at the end of the day is lynched, unless a majority has already been reached before then, in which case the day ends prematurely.

Days will last 36 hours and nights 12 hours, meaning 48 hours (2 days) per game day. With one exception: The weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) will be one game day (so day will be 60 hours and night 12 hours on weekends).

 

While I'm honored you think I should be nominated, I doubt I'm the best choice for this. Much of what let me live for so long in our games here is that, like you, I was one of the few who carried the game forward with discussion. I wouldn't say I have much skill at all. If I were to nominate someone, I'd vote for either Quitaren or Apathy Applied. Both have been impressively devious in past games with their roles, and were often overlooked due to assuming they were innocuous.

I'm interested, sure, and wouldn't turn down an opportunity to play if I were to be chosen, but in what world do the players nominate the host?

Case in point. I do know Mafia since I brought to these forums but I haven't played a single game here. Can't really represent the players not being a player myself, can I?
The point being: I suggest you'd consider me only as a backup plan. I'll take part only if there isn't anyone else to do so.

We aren't going with how many games we have played really, but we should nominate who do we think is the best in playing the game. Even though you've got only two games, I think you've proven your skills enough to have a right, and I see I ain't the only one thinking so.

Well, we do need to nominate people that can surely keep up with the discussion, because it's gonna get real out there. Post counts here do not get even close to what is to be expected in those games, so I can't really guess who'd be the best for that. In that regard you'd be one of the most fit.

I personally think that good Civilian play is really what is a mark of a good player. Anyone can lay low as a Penguin, but it'll be harder to defend oneself when called out on that in those games, I'm afraid. So there's that to keep in mind.
I went through some past games and checked my notes and yeah, I think Alkane, Dusty and zesko are my picks for nominees.

Only zeskorion and I have actually voiced our willingness to actually play... Anyone else that would go if they were nominated?

Signups aren't up yet. I've got no idea when or what the next game will be. I'm busy (ugh) so I don't have much time to set the game up... But I'll try. I guess the earliest I could aim for is next week's Friday, but I can't really do any prep work before that... but I'll try. how'd the player made setups sound now?
