  1. Jaxine

    Jaxine Pangalactic Porcupine

    "Crimson Jax", Jaxine Caulie
    Captain of the Black Nova
The Woman, the myth, lhe LEDG... (eh, who am I kidding.)

Our all tale begins with Jaxine holding a gun to a nameless writers head. She wants her story to be told, so she chose some online Forum to do it. However, she demanded that the text size be increased so people can actually read it, then demanded it to be both bigger and bolder with a better font! But Times New Roman is so heavily overused that it was then changed again! Twice!

An indent was then added to make it fancy along with a more narrow field of text. Satisfied, her story could begin. So, this paragraph was made far too short to end so abruptly, forcing the writer to fill it in by explaining himself.

For many years, Humans had tried to find ways to make themselves physically better. The result was Cyberus Inc, he first and most advanced authority on Cybernetics. Capable of removing a human brain in-tact and fully functional, they planed to pave the way for a new age of Human Evolution. However, the entire project was deemed too dangerous to Humans as a whole, so the Protectorate (or whatever Earth-based power existed in your universe) shut them down.

However, Cyberus Inc continued it's experiments underground. Literally, in alot of cases. Instead of volunteers, they would kidnap lost or runaway children, people who were in accidents, and the homeless. Jaxine was one of these. In fact, she was the sixth of seven created Cyborgs of the newest Gen III project. She spent some time as a mindless puppet for Cyberus, but was favored by her caregiver, Dr. Tessa NeCross.

But the day came when earth met it's final hours. The facility went to hell, and Tessa making sure all seven of the Gen III Cyborgs were prepared in escape pods to leave the planet. Some time passed, and Jaxine sustained damage after crash-landing on another planet. She was located by Minikong Scientists, who attempted to utilize her for themselves. However, Apex Rebels attacked the facility during their analysis of Jaxine and captured it. They forced the Scientists to give Jaxine her free will back.

She then woke up and joined the rebels. The problem was, she wasn't some kind of hero. In fact, she only joined up for the combat. Jaxine found she enjoyed blowing things up, killing people, and getting a pat on the back for it. She was located by Dr. NeCross on this planet after some time, and they eventually went on their own, keeping in touch with the rebels and taking command of an Avian Skyship. They re-purposed it as a spacecraft and began her spree of attacking planetary facilities, space stations, and other spacecraft belonging to Minikong, bandits, feral Florans, Black Knights or their affiliates in search of weapons, tech, info and anything she could sell to the rebels or the highest bidder.

The story of "Crimson Jax", Captain of the Black Nova spread throughout the universe for years, many thinking her to be immortal. Few knowing of her true Cybernetic origin, the seemingly age-defying woman took cuts and gunshots from multiple enemies, feeling no pain and carrying on to massacre them all. She was a symbol of hope to the oppressed, a dark hero who targeted the bad guys because she could get away with it.

    Jmack115 Orbital Explorer

    Charles Star

Charles's father was a drunk, his mother was drunk. His life was… less than good. He always had issues, he got mad at the neighborhood kids when the called him a meatbag he lived in a novakid village and while the novakids are an okay race, they are slow to accept new things. Such as humans living by them side by side. The kids would torment him he would always fight back and win, until they ganged up on him. He would come home bloody and beaten. One night he came home to see his house on fire, his parents inside, crisps to the bone. He would soon steal a man's ship, and leave the planet at the age of fourteen. He would wonder if the villagers set his house ablaze. He would come to find he had a talent for killing people, after killing three men in a bar with a pencil. He would soon become a high class hitman at the age of 18. He would kill many, and build a reputation. Until one day, he got a job to kill someone whom everybody called the shadow. This shadow never saw it coming, the targets name was Gaben Smith a crappy name as charles proclaimed. But that didn't matter, a battle broke out between the two killers, Charles nearly killed Gaben but he got away, a man jumped in to save him just before he could take his life. He appeared and left so suddenly, through a portal of some kind. he was blasted away when he left, and had trouble hearing for the next week or so. Charles was amazed by this technology, and considerd how much better he could be at his work, if he could take people by surprise, as he was taken by surprise. Charles would travel the galaxy, looking for such information, and Gaben. He traveled across many planets, obsessed with finding answers. He found them, in an abandoned laboratory in the outskirts of a large city. The place was seemingly well kept, so it was surprising to not find anyone working there. Charles climbed into a window, into an office room, with bookshelves lining the walls. Charles found one open on the wooden desk. It appeared to be a journal, containing many drawings, and advanced equations describing an interesting machine. Charles grabbed the book, and returned to his ship, hoping to avoid being seen. The man appeared to be Gaben’s father, a scientist, having a theory about something called the multiverse, and how one might travel across it. He drew detailed drawings of how to build an interdimensional portal. Charles assumed this was what the man used, but the portal seemed to be one way, and was capable of only one use. It was a start, Charles left the planet to find an engineer capable of building a multiverse portal.

    Nagako
    [IMG]
Nagako was born in a family of artists. However, when she opened her eyes for the first time, her mother noticed something was wrong with her third eye. It had no pupil. After showing her to a doctor shortly after her birth, the news came ; Nagako would never, ever see from her third eye. It was blind because of a genetic defect. Her parents thought she'd never succeed in the arts because of her "missing" eye, so they tried in her childhood to find something else for her, until they heard of the Protectorate.

Nagako had quite a normal childhood, playing and arguing with her younger sister Akane, and had little to no perturbations. And when she reached teenagehood, she was sent to the Protectorate, despite her wanting to stay with her family. Not much interested in these things, Nagako went through her studies without caring much, only wanting one thing ; adventure. She had, close to her heart, a desire to see the world in its globality, growing as a person and seeing all that she couldn't see, maybe to make up for her third eye she was never able to see with.

After the events of early Starbound, she ended up on Planet Lyrae Mass III and started her life, trying her best to learn how to live. When, after a long time trying, she finally learned how to be independent, she finally took charge of things and went from planet to planet, visiting people and helping them, even the Florans people had told her bad things about, sometimes having affairs with both males and females, although she manifested a preference in the latter. She built a house on Lyrae Mass IV, a planet which she particularly loved, and remained here for some time, close to the Floran village.

Over time, as she was traveling through the Hylotl cities, she met the ones who would become her crew members, and above all, the one she'd love the most : Tomomi. She was quieter and shyer than Nagako was, but could be quite social once one got to know her. They just struck a conversation, noticed they had quite a lot in common, especially this thirst for adventure and freedom. They became friends, but soon after, their friendship became love. Now Nagako and Tomomi, along with their friends, are now traveling the Universe, going from planet to planet to fulfill their desire for adventure.

This is Anderson, A generic man drafted into an Army against his will (AKA Shooter Guy).
Anderson, before the war was born a normal man. He was born in the major city of London, living in the smaller suburban outskirts rather than the highrises of the inner city. He has the most generic backstory and got expelled from a Religious school once. He grew up, his parents died and he inherited the family house.

When the Protectorate was formed, a legislation was passed that every country on Earth were to demilitarise their own militaries (including making firearms illegal) and that a person was to be elected as a "Global Leader", to achieve "World Peace" as the higher ups in the governments had called it. This legislation and drastic change in how society would work, was passed with relative ease, with many countries, even the poorer countries in the Middle East were successfully demilitarised and for the first time in Human history, global peace was achieved.

This didn't last long however, as mistrust and fear began to rose due to a singular military force known as the "Protectorates", Countries began to illegally remilitarise themselves out of fear and protesting began, demanding that the "old" governmental system be returned and that firearms become legal again. The USCM simultaneously had begun a Coup d'etat and began to arm the Protesters with firearms. This came the first Rebellion, in which Anderson was caught in the middle of during a walk home from the local park. Angry rioters roamed the streets, armed with both the old USCM-Series MG's or the newer and more advanced Pulse Rifles. Anderson, being as harmless as he looked, merely kept on walking home as the rioters shot the Protectorates who tried to run up to them with swords.

Anderson, realising his house was now on fire, just took his quad-wheeled combustible piston-driven engine vehicle and drove to the Luton Airport then snuck aboard a US-979 destined for a flight to Mars. Being stuck on the landing gear wasn't a luxurious one, but a convenient one in the least. Of course the starship conveniently crashed onto Mars, into the Mars Airport Terminal which was guarded by the Protectorate. He was taken into the holding bay, suffering AN INTENSE minor headache and from there on, with nothing on him, A Protectorate Guard told him he was fighting for them now. Anderson was forced to go through a rugged 4 month training period along with a week-long "Re-Education" programme.

He also proceeds to singlehandedly slaughter every Rebel trooper with no remorse. He goes through an Orbide Hive, slaughters a Rebel Supersoldier, massacres civilians trying to survive the war, avoids some lovecraftian invincible monsters, wipes out an entire frontline of Rebels with only a machinegun, takes out multiple armoured vehicles, destroys multiple T-34's with his gun, brings down an entire zeppelin, survives multiple direct hits from 140mm armour-piercing rounds, takes hits from High Explosive Rockets, leads more troops, jumps into a retrofitted mech armed with 4 .50 cals, slaughters every single Rebel before they even fire a shot, slaughters Rebel Scientists, kills more penguins, brings down multiple attack helicopters at once, singlehandedly slaughters more Rebels, defeat buffed Dreadwing and rescues a forward scouting party.

BECAUSE HE'S THE SHOOTER GUY (No seriously how the hell does someone take a 140mm armour-piercing round to the face?
He still hasn't realised that Mars isn't the only place the Rebels are interested in.

Why is it raining in a Scorched City? Because mods.

Setse (right) is a former member of the fallen Protectorate who, by luck (or unluck?) happened upon one of her surviving classmates and good friend, Sorrel, (left) after the Earth was ripped apart. She explores the cosmos with Sorrel, plugging her ears when she talks incessantly about bones, half heartedly shaming her for desecrating graves, and saving her from her own incompetence.

Beyond caring for her surrogate little sister, Setse seeks to find peace among the stars. A childhood of hearing about brutality and discord in the galaxy around her home emboldened her to join the Protectorate. But when it fell, in all her grief for Earth, she saw its destruction as a personal failure. Despite having extensive training in combat and nerves of steel, the trauma of watching an entire planet go has made her just wish for a life of painting on a peaceful farm on a garden planet with her friend Sorrel,

and orbital railguns to erase any hostile visitors.

I don't have a screenshot of him, but I play Tepin, an Avian grand protector that he is the Phoenix fabled to roam the stars, he builds advanced technology wherever he goes from working computers to fully fledged ais to control defense systems(no joke I live in a cleaned out apex testing site and my defence system is powered by a neural network)

He is the only avian that believes kluex is well, I can't really say what he thinks of him on this forum unless I want a nice ban.
He even flooded an entire avian temple with lava to defile it.

His weapon of choice is the banhanmer, a big awesome hammer that does 80 something damage and has fire elemental damage.
Soon after defeating the ruin he settled on a planet known as trianguli delta III and built a colony, his colony is underground.

Ok, buckle down, guys. This is a long one. If you're too daunted by the length, just skip to Adulthood and read from there.

Note that some other OC's are mentioned in this one, namely Dimris, Coztlel, and #human. I use #human, since I can't decide the human's name, or the name of his ship (denoted by #humanshipname). Dimris is a male redhead apex, and only gets mentioned once, so I won't bother with any more description.

Past Generation: (pre-birth) Teztlin’s grandparents (on both sides, they were business partners) develop a product that sells so well that it elevates them straight from the lower class to the top 10 percent of the Avian population. They move to Avos to further their business, growing richer and richer. They are, however, disgusted by the selfish and prideful attitude of the upper class on Avos, and vow that none of their descendants would ever behave in such a manner. The oldest child of each of the two families, a young male named Tecuic, and a young female named Citzina fall in love and, much to the encouragement of their families, get married. They are Teztlin’s parents.

Infancy: (age 0-5) Teztlin is born to his parents on Avos. He is raised in a fairly wealthy household where his parents teach him to be kind and humble, they remind him that prosperity is earned and to never become like the other prideful members of the upper class.

Childhood: (age 6-15) On a whim, Teztlin tries out at a children’s community theater and lands a role. He begins his career as an actor, which begins to attract the attention of more prominent producers. While this is happening, Teztlin also begins his combat training, dreaming of joining the special forces and protecting the Avian people. This may seem odd, since Avian warriors have a reputation of being trained from birth. But, in those peaceful times, any child who showed promise could be trained in combat like a warrior, often taking the place of a designated warrior trainee who didn't stack up.

Adolescence: (age 15-25) Teztlin begins his career in filmmaking. He also makes his way onto the Phoenix unit, an elite group of young Avian commandos. Due to the peaceful time period during which he serves, working in the Phoenix unit only occasionally takes him out on deployment, which gives him time to pursue his career in acting.

Adulthood: (age 26-85) Teztlin serves on the Phoenix unit for 10 years. During this time, he has his first relationship, which ends with both of them agreeing that they aren’t meant for each other, and begins his second relationship. About two months after his time in the Phoenix unit ends, he dumps his girlfriend for showing up drunk to a date. After that experience, even the thought of alcohol leaves a bad taste in his mouth. While making his first big budget film, he meets Coztlel backstage, and the two fall in love. They begin dating seriously about halfway through the production. After dating for four years (not very long, by avian standards), they begin talking seriously about marriage.

At this point, an exposed scandal involving a high-ranking priest on Avos throws the church of Kluex in a bad light. In a successful attempt to regain public favor, they call a now world famous Teztlin to join the Kluexian priesthood, and he gleefully accepts. After a week of serving in the ministry, Teztlin discovers that the higher-ups are glutting themselves with the tithes of the Avian people and straight up fabricating the words of Kluex to fit their wants. The other priests, assuming that his ‘nice guy’ reputation is made up and that he’s actually just as selfish as the other celebrities on Avos, tell him that he’ll soon start getting a share of the tribute money and advise him to start thinking about what he wants to do with it. He tries to secretly expose them, but his message is intercepted and the priests capture him by gassing his quarters. He is held for two days in a secret prison hidden within the Grand Sovereign Temple of Kluex. (remember that the place is much larger than what you see in the game)

While he is imprisoned, he writes several love letters and poems to Coztlel, which the priests allow to be delivered when they find nothing incriminating in them. Unbeknownst to them, Teztlin and Coztlel had developed a code to write secret messages to each other when their relationship was discovered by the media. The poems he wrote for her during that time had garnered no small amount of attention, leading the priests to believe that the strange but unexplainable patterning of his letters was simply his writing style. In code, however, they tell Coztlel everything that he’d seen and that he was imprisoned and sentenced to death. After two days, he is taken from his cell to be brought to the execution chamber.

While en-route, he is rescued by a group of Grounded rebels, who had a spy placed amongst the ministry. They flee Avos with Teztlin on board and Stargazer priests in tow. Their vehicle is shot down over Garos Basin IV, and plummets into the atmosphere. With the ship too damaged to recover, the rebels teleport Teztlin onto the planet surface less than a second before they crashed into the ocean, sacrificing themselves to make it appear as though Teztlin was dead. The Stargazer priests report to the public that Teztlin was on an assignment in the system when he was attacked and killed by pirates.

Teztlin, incidentally, was teleported onto the planet surface right next to #human, who was currently stranded on the planet after the destruction of Earth. The two agree to work together to get off-world and #human manages to convince Teztlin to help him fight the Ruin. Teztlin is his longest-standing companion in this journey, aside from SAIL, and the two become close friends. Teztlin, however, begins suffering from bouts of depression stemming from fear for the well-being of Coztlel and his family. He also questions the meaning of life (although he never lets the others see it) and desperately looks for a church that will teach him about the real God, now that he knows that Kluex is not divine.

After retrieving the Floran artifact in the Ceremonial Hunting Grounds, Teztlin returns to the small base that he and #human built on Garos Basin IV to find Coztlel there. She had come to Garos Basin the moment that the priests declared it safe to travelers and found the wreckage of the rebel ship. Believing that one of the Avian skeletons inside is Teztlin, she swam back to shore and had a nervous breakdown. Dimris, an apex who had been maintaining the base on Garos Basin IV, found her on the shore and took her in to recover.

After reuniting with Coztlel, he tells her about everything that’s happened since he was captured, and the two sneak back to their favorite secluded beach in the Avos system, where he proposes to her. She tearfully accepts, and the two embrace and return to Garos Basin. After promising each other that they will survive and get married, Coztlel returns to Avos and spreads the rumor that she personally saw Teztlin’s now bare skeleton in the ocean of Garos Basin IV, furthering the false sense of security that the Kluexian priesthood feels. All the while, she begins aiding the organization that rescued Teztlin and using her influence (she’s a famous actor, too) to lay the groundwork for taking down the current leadership of the church of Kluex.

Teztlin accompanies #human during his quest to destroy the Ruin, using his combat skills to great effect and becoming an invaluable member of #human’s crew. After retrieving the Avian artifact at The Great Sovereign Temple, his survival is revealed to the Avian public and, more importantly, the Kluexian leadership. Coztlel launches her political campaign against the Kluexian church and flees to join Teztlin on #human’s crew when the ministry tries to kill her. The two are married as they continue with #human’s quest to kill the Ruin, recognizing that it’s a bigger threat than even the church of Kluex.

After destroying the Ruin, Teztlin and Coztlel return to Avos to help their people restructure their society. The people react with some hostility at first, citing that the two had revealed the corruption of the church of Kluex and then left, but the Avian public is eventually placated.

However, Teztlin had sustained a wound in the battle aginst the Ruin. Before the fight even began, he was struck with a stinger through a gap in his armor. The wound didn't trouble him, so he continued in the fight regardless of it. After returning to Avos, he checked on the injury only to find that the wound now oozed a black, tarlike substance and that his flesh and feathers around it were darkening. No doctor, healer, or researcher could understand what was happening, and the infection spread farther.

As it did, Teztlin began to change, feathers fell out around the injury (just below the ribcage) and revealed that the skin beneath was pitch black, he found himself inexplicably drawn toward shadow planets, fueled by an urgency to find something there. All the while, Teztlin is followed by a vengeful Asra Nox, who manages to capture the weakened Teztlin and haul him away.

At about the same time, #human is investigating ancient vaults when he accidentally busts through a wall. Inside, he finds dozens of corpses (somehow preserved through the ages) with bald, pitch black skin and red eyes. Upon showing the tomb to Esther, she surmises that it must be the remains of the Ancients, and notes the similarity between the dead Ancients and Teztlin's infection. After Coztlel finds them and tells them what happened to Teztlin, they round up the other survivors of #human's crew and set off in search of Teztlin and a cure. In their search, they end up uncovering the origin and history of the Novakid race (and the demise of the Ancients), and find a mixture of Ancient Essence and another material (can't figure out what to call it, but it comes from a racial Novakid boss fight) that might cure Teztlin.

Meanwhile, Teztlin is imprisoned by Asra Nox, who plans on using his body to grow and harvest the pathogen that the Ruin had injected into him. She plans to weaponize it as the next best thing to weaponizing the Ruin itself. Teztlin is rescued and the location destroyed, but Asra Nox slips away once again, with a large sample (about the size of a tall cup) of the "Shadow Pathogen".

After the potential antidote is administered to Teztlin, his body changes again. The blackened flesh recedes and eventually vanishes, his eyes return to their normal color (they were blood red while imprisoned by Asra), and his feathers grow back. But the cure comes with a strange surprise.

It caused him to grow wings.

Short ones, yes. Just a foot or two longer than his arms. But wings nonetheless. They sprouted from his back and stayed there for the rest of his life, leaving the question: why? The answer never came, but Esther theorizes that it had something to do with the Cultivator's original plan for the Avian race.

Teztlin and Coztlel become very influential figures in the beginning of a new Avian society, although they refuse any attempt at placing them in a position of political power. They continue their careers in acting (although they now refuse to play romantic roles with anyone but each other) and Teztlin accepts a position as a special forces reserve, which he holds for thirty years.

Teztlin and Coztlel also raise a family on Avos, they have seven children.

They stay in contact with the other surviving members of #human’s crew, maintaining close friendships with all of them throughout the years.

Seniority: (age 86-142) After retiring, Teztlin and Coztlel take to exploring the cosmos. They don’t get themselves into hairy situations like they did back when they fought the Ruin, but they still have a good amount of adventure. Due to the long lifespan of Avians, they outlive every other member of the crew, personally speaking at each of their funerals.
Teztlin and Coztlel live very long lives by Avian standards, with Coztlel living to 133 years and Teztlin dying at age 142. For taking down the corrupted church of Kluex and opening up the Avian people to the search for the real God, they are forever immortalized in Avian history, though perhaps given more credit than they are due.

Whew! That was a lot of words. Anywho, I'm putting together a whole story with a character from each race. Hopefully, I'll someday be able to make it into an animated series. Each character has an entire life story (mostly) planned at this point and a unique reason for joining the fight against the Ruin. Let me know if you guys want to hear any other character's stories.

Also, what do you think of this one?

I wrote a similar story for english class, I'm just going to vastly shorten it and edit a few things to make it relate to Starbound

My character grew up on Avos much like many other avians, but being an atheist it was very risky staying there. Unlike the pathetic society we have on Earth currently, Avos was a somewhat unified world with almost everyone getting along well except for the fact that non believers were very looked down upon. Space travel was a major importance there, (again, unlike Earth since humanity cant even get their stuff together, stop fighting wars, and realize that we they all equal as humans) and already having a ship, my character decided to leave Avos to search for a new world. His search eventually brought him to the Sol system where his first stop was Saturn's moon Titan. Similar to Avos, it had a hydrocarbon atmosphere. My character decided to leave since its -200 degrees there and that is not very friendly to any life whose body contains liquid water. Seeing there was only one other world in the Sol system that was habitable, he set off to Mars lol the recurring joke is that earth is a piece of trash. The only inhabitants were a few rovers that were thousands of years old. He promptly flew to the next planet, Earth. Surprisingly, evolution on this planet almost exactly mirrored the evolution of life on Avos except for one major difference. Curiously, an asteroid had somehow wiped out the dinosaurs instead of the mammals, which led to the mammals' dominance of the planet. Shortly after its destruction, he was once more plunged into a quest to find a new world.

Malli and Tepin would get along nicely. Malli despises the Stargazers, and any time she finds one of their villages, she ruins their worship buildings and seals off their tower, then dumps lava on the priest inside. She's also instructed her subcaptains to do the same. Her other enemies include the Miniknog and Occasus. She marks Miniknog towers for demolition to build her peaceful colony out of the wall panels, and she carries the upgraded Solus Katana, and enjoys slaughtering Occasus cultists with their leader's stolen weapon.
